Wow, the Twitch chat box has been moderated or something, seems like only actual streamers are talking in the box now, including Professor Broman, the annoying bald guy from the POE reveal.

Yep, mods and staff only.

OK, the feed may be back...and the countdown has started again! We are less than 4 minutes away now!

Re: Bungie - Destiny

So here we go.

It's Deej playing with a fake Thunderlord and James Tsai, a designer.

The players are Mr. Fruit, Cozmo and Claude Jerome, who designs sandboxes.

Fruit is using the Titan, Claude is the Hunter and Cozmo is a Warlock.

Fruit had a artifact on his Titan called Radegast's Blade, which is not the Heavy sword, but sounds more like it's a slot that adds perks more than a weapon. Not sure.

Claude's artifact gives him orbs when killing with melee. So far artifacts sound...lame. Cozmo's artifact has the same perk. Lame.

OK, so in this strike you're going to enter a cabal ship that is inside the Dreadnaught. So yeah, a ship inside of a ship. And inside that ship...is a Tank. Yes, HE'S IN A TANK!

Close range battle with the Rockets McDickface tank. Lots of Fillion commentary during this strike.

Strikes are supposed to be more rewarding, with specific gear dropping from bosses to give the game a more direct path between rewards and how you obtain them.

fruit does have a Sword equipped, but hasn't used it yet.

The bosses in this Strike fight as a team. You fight one, then the other, then both at the same time.

The sword that Fruit has does do pretty good damage.

wait what?
they are playing Fruit Ninja??!!!
I'm so  I thought this was a Destiny stream

Re: Bungie - Destiny

And that's about it. They showed us the strike, saw some sword work, and they barely talked about artifacts.

Fruit was less annoying than Broman, but overall this reveal wasn't very informative at all...unless you wanted a full preview of one strike.

Which, to be fair, is what they advertised.

I watched it via low quality on twitch so I didn't eat through too much data. Is it just me, or did the final boss fight feel like something out of PoE?

A little bit I suppose, mainly because of the design of the room being similar to a POE arena. But they've said the new bosses are less bullet sponges and more technique based, and that's one of the few things they got right with POE, was adding mechanics to boss battles outside of raids.

This strike was light on actual mechanics though. Certainly not a Q'odron type mechanic here. It's comparable to the Cabal Of Many colors battle I suppose.

Good stuff. It makes you realize that we are such a small segment of this game's audience. If they can get more people as into the game as we are it will only make things better.

I logged on for first time in two months and tried to do Nightfall and tried 4 times and not once was there matchmaking at all not even one other person. and this was at 9pm. Haha Destiny is a ghost town.

Ill buy the new stuff maybe when it's $20 until then forget it. And I'm not trolling I just couldn't believe I couldn't get a single other person for nightfall in 4 attempts.

you may not be trolling (the "haha" sure goes a long way to prove that) but you are ignorant as to how the game functions
Destiny is a thriving community and hardly the ghost town you say it is
there is no matchmaking for the Nightfall
you either have to party up with up to 2 others you know or you can use a lfg (looking for game) type site

Re: Bungie - Destiny

That's to funny it's been so long since I played I forgot. Yea only the weekly was like that jesus I'm now old and half lost it. Plus it's super late at night.

But anyway I haven't seen anyone I played with on either of late. But same reason I stopped playing what was left to do really. I had max level in 3 days when POE came out really I seen no reason to collect more of those whatever they were used to level. See I forgot that as well.

1800 hours played you'd think I'd remember LMFAO.

Interesting video - Is Activision more to blame for the things that have happened with the game?

I'm still surprised by the amount of people on my friends list playing Destiny when I get online. I need new friends :)

Kidding aside, I can't remember the last console game to have this kind of legs. Maybe COD4? Granted, Destiny benefits from the content packs that have been added over the past year, but it's still a pretty amazing feat.

cruzness 08-27-15 08:24 AM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Other than sports games - CoD had legs like this. CoD4, MW2 and BlOps all had really commited players on my friend list. I logged tons of hours on those along with MW3 and BlOps2.

Pretty fascinating behind-the-scenes video. Sounds like Destiny could have debuted at SO much more of a game than it did.

That said, I find it amazing even in what this author calls a "crippled" state. Like some of the posters above, I can't think of the last time an XBox game has pulled me in like this. I've been playing Destiny almost exclusively for the past 9 months. It's always fun.

I do think that despite the fact that the debut may have been seriously botched from "what could have been," a lot of the author's omissions seem to be appearing in The Taken King. I have a feeling TTK is much closer to what Bungie wanted the original Destiny to be. So we are finally getting much closer to having that game. And I, for one, am happy to be along for the ride.

As far as the DLC goes, I personally don't mind paying for it. I come from a long history of paying $15/mo for PC MMORPGs. This costs less and, IMO, is much more fun!

I'm not sure who the person who made that video is and what qualifications he has for making his claims, but towards the beginning he admits that most of what he says is theory and speculation, and then right after says that the theory and speculation is backed up by Activision's silence and refusal to comment. He loses any credibility with me after that. I mean, you're pontificating and using speculation to prove rumor and speculation?

Not saying any of it is right or wrong but things are just starting to get silly with the game and the impassioned views some people are taking up. Play it and have fun. Or don't and move along.

Though I will say, the original story idea he explains that got scrapped seems pretty cool and infinitely better than what we got.

Some of the stuff in the video has been said in other videos. The way this guy has the story is more on the fan fiction end than I've heard before, and doesn't tie in some of the other missing story elements.

But where this guy loses me is that he doesn't seem to understand how game development works. He talks about how there's "5 or 6 builds of the game that we've never seen!" Ummmm yeah, there's probably dozens of builds that we never saw, because that's how development works.

This continues when he starts talking about the DLC. First, the deal with Activision called for the DLCs from the beginning. It wasn't chopped up, all of this was in the original contract. Second, the places that people glitched into early weren't finished.

Considering what I've heard from people at Bungie, they're able to screw things up on their own without Activision's involvement. If anything, I'd say Activision might be the voice of reason here saying to Bungie "fix this shit, people are pissed off!"

At the end of the day, Bungie owns Destiny, so Activision's influence on it isn't as massive as this guy in the video thinks.

The Weekly Update is out...and I'm not sure what to make of it, but I'm leaning toward not liking it.

They went over the changes coming to the weekly and daily game content (Nightfalls, Weeklies, etc.)

First off, changes to Nightfalls:

Another thing we didn't like about the Year 1 Nightfall was how players could feel forced to play Nightfall as early as possible in the week to maximize the benefit from the Nightfall buff. So, we've shelved that buff until we can reform it into something closer to its original intent - a mark of prestige for having achieved something challenging. We've adjusted sources of XP and Reputation up to account for its absence.

Now Requires Level 40
Wiping no longer returns Fireteams to Orbit
Now uses 30 second time-out penalty for Death (same as Raid Normal)
So basically the Nightfall is going to play more like the weekly, since there is no more kick to orbit. The 30 second timer will make it play more like POE. But overall this would seem to make things easier.

For the Weekly:

We've removed a dedicated Weekly Heroic Strike from the game this Fall. In its place we've added a new playlist: the Vanguard Heroic Playlist.

Each week players receive bonus Legendary Marks from the Weekly Heroic Playlist. These awards are received at the Account level rather than the character level - as was the case with Year One Weekly Heroic Rewards.

We made this change to enable players to focus on a single character more, or feel less pressure to gear three characters at once for Legendary Marks.

Requires Level 40
Removed the Weekly Heroic Strikes
Instead, accounts receive Legendary Marks for completing the first three Weekly Strikes
Removed the Weekly Cap on how many Legendary Marks can be earned.
Guarantee a Legendary Engram drop from a character's first clear of a Weekly Heroic Strike
So no more Weekly Heroic strike. Instead, you'll get stuff from the playlist. I notice that Strange Coins aren't listed here, but Legendary Marks are. Interesting. And now you can do it all on one character if you choose.

What about PVP?

Nightfall was built as a ritual experience for groups of three players in PVE. In Year 1, we didn't have a good weekly ritual experience for PVP players.

Once players have completed the PVP Intro chain on Lord Shaxx, they receive access to the Weekly PVP quests on Lord Shaxx and the PVP Quartermaster.

Each week, Lord Shaxx has a Bounty called "The True Meaning of War." Completing this Bounty each week (which requires completing the PVP weeklies) grants players Nightfall tier rewards.
I think we knew all of this already from the reveal.

OK, but what about Dailies?

Daily Heroic/Daily PVP
It's important to us that Destiny remain compatible with real life. Playing multiple characters can sometimes feel like a job or a chore, the Daily Heroic and Daily PVP often felt that way. So we increased their rewards and made them an account completion. We want players to choose which characters they want to play on and earn Legendary Marks on.
OK, people already could choose what characters they wanted to play with. To say people looked at it like a chore or job is just insulting. All this does here is limit our opportunities to earn XP and marks for all our characters. If I want to play daily stuff with all my characters, that should be my choice as well. But now Bungie is basically saying people are playing their game too much. Fuck you Bungie.

Did we mention that you’ll need to confront the immediate threat first? Oryx lies between you and these challenges. You'll need to survive his wrath to partake in the new endgame.
And there we go. Thought it was bad for people who couldn't do Nightfalls when Omnigul or Taniks came up? Now pretty much all this content being moved behind the paywall. Want Legendary Marks? Gotta buy Taken King. Nightfalls? Taken King. Strike Playlists? Taken King. Daily stuff? TAKEN KING!

So by their logic, I play the game too much, but I should spend another $40 and play the game less?

How the fuck does this make any sense whatsoever? They are now penalizing you for having 3 characters. What's next? The Raid being an account wide drop?

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Just as a counterpoint - my friends and I who maybe play a few times a week and have 1-2 characters find many of these changes favorable. We don't always have a lot of time to dedicate so we're much more focused on weekly challenge for us rather than running something multiple times across characters.

Till reset on Tuesday
you have plenty of time and the reputation buff increases each day
you should easily hit 5 and get 2 etheric lights even if you don't play till later in the week
