When you are underpowered with rare gear (around level 20-24) and you are trying to get legendary/exotic gear to drop - you are more likely to catch a legendary engram at the end of a Tiger strike than running around farming and catching events that yield green/blue engrams and/or ascendent energy/shards. Once you get past that hump amd have 2-3 pieces of legendary gear what you stated becomes true.

Thanks, but I do know all that, it's just that even with doing a lot of bounties, I still don't have nearly enough to purchase one thing from Xur. That's why I was hoping for a random drop. Otherwise, it looks to be a lot of tedious works and I guess I'm just getting tired of the grind.

fell asleep and woke up 10 mins before the reset ... Saw I was able to finally get into the PS Store and that chase and King were on in the game so tried signing into Destiny .... wouldn't connect saying I wasn't connected to PSN

reset my machine and then couldn't even get into the store let alone Destiny

did just watch a stream and saw the pure sh*t Xur was offering (even missing an important item)
another week of absolutely nothing for me but some rocket launcher holders will be happy

Well, it's been a long day thanks to those bastards that took down PSN (and XBL I guess), but I am now here and am about to start my Weekly Xur Report: The Day After X-Mas Edition

Today's Xur report is brought to you by Bad Santa on Blu-ray Disc. Which I will be watching as I type this report. Bad Santa, for when Xur is as bad as I suspect he will be tonight, you really need an Eating, Drinking, Shitting, Fucking Santa Claus.

Xur is located at Central Tower, to the right of the Vanguard Representatives.



Xur is really trolling us this week. His selection for sale is a lot of regulars, and one new item.

The Titan gets The Armamentarium. Yep, it's back. If you didn't buy it any of the previous 87 times he sold it, or you didn't upgrade it 2 weeks ago, here's your chance again!
The Hunter gets the Symbiote Helmet again, which he sold 2 weeks ago.
The Warlock gets the Claws Of Ahamkara for the second week in a row.
The Weapon this week is the No Land Beyond Primary Sniper Rifle. From what I've been told, it's crap. But I'll be buying one anyway.
Finally, as you can see, there is no engram this week. So keep your motes in the vault.

The upgrades this week are also a bit of a letdown, with a few big ones that people have been waiting for.

The Hunter gets the Crest Of Alpha Lupi Chest (2nd Time) And Young Ahamkara's Spine Gauntlets (2nd Time)
The Titan gets the Helm Of Saint-14 and Helm Of Inmost Light (Both First Timers)
The Warlock gets trolled again, with Heart Of The Praxic Fire (2nd Time, FUCK YOU XUR) and Sunbreakers (3rd Time, Seriously?)

We get 7 weapons again this week on Sony Systems meaning another exclusive. This week's weapons:

SUROS Regime (2nd Time)
Red Death (2nd Time)
The Last Word (2nd Time)
Thunderlord (2nd Time)
Super Good Advice (2nd Time)
Gjallarhorn (First Time, congrats chess and gooter and the rest of you lucky bastards)
Hawkmoon (PS Exclusive, First Time)

So there you go. Obviously I know what the lucky bastards will be upgrading first. Hawkmoon is a nice win for me. I'll probably grab the two Titan helmet upgrades. But as usual Xur has brought a lump of coal.

But with both the SGA and Thunderlord there, we can at least say: "Now I have an upgraded Machine Gun. Ho. Ho. Ho."

That's what happened to me at first. When it does, what I do is sign out of PSN and sign back in. Usually, that does the trick. Hopefully, all this will be ironed out my morning...not that you're missing anything to spend your what, 212 coins on?

If and when we all get back on....I'll probably upgrade the Titan's Helm of Inmost Light. I've got the "new" Saint one and this will cover both abilities. My Hunter has all three "new" Exotic Helms while the Warlock has two Exotic vests and one helm so they're all set for now. I broke down my old P&T Sniper last week and got the new one plus the Legendary LVR 5001 so with those two and new upgraded Ice Breaker I'm ok sniper wise. Can't believe no engram though...this week?

Nope, they said it wouldn't be there every week, and this is the week with none. I'm sitting on 92 motes with nothing to use them on.

You aren't kidding. I'm happy about being able to upgrade my hawkmoon, but the rest of the offerings suck (unless you have a Gjallarhorn to upgrade).

Yeah, and I can go beyond that for those who can't get on.

The Armamentarium he's selling has worse stats than the upgrade from 2 weeks ago. So unless you really need an exotic chest for your Titan, it's a waste.

The Symbiote helmet is worse than the one from 2 weeks ago as well. The Claws were better last week. No Land Beyond looks interesting, but really is not useful at all.

Most of the upgrades are worse rolls than the first time they came up. I'm not sure about Praxic Fire since I still don't have one. The two Titan Helmets and Sunbreakers are the only ones with decent rolls.

Then you have a bunch of weapons that have already been offered, plus the Gjallarhorn and Hawkmoon.

Instead of upgrading my Super Good Advice, I did the bounty again and got the new one that way. Then I broke down the old one and got 2 Exotic Shards. I have Bad Juju and Invective bounties in process as well.

I did make a mistake and upgraded my maxed out Hawkmoon instead of the one I got from the Vault Of Glass last week. So now I have a fresh new one and a fresh old one. Doh.

Wait. You guys can actually play Destiny right now? PSN is still down for me.

It was up for a few hours overnight. Long enough for me to get the Xur stuff.

I'm sure I could play on the PS3 if I felt like it, seems it's just PS4 down this morning.

EDIT: I did go and check. PS3 is fine. Got on Destiny and looked at Xur again. Still crap.

Assuming if I can get on, upgrade my Gjal or Helm of Inmost? Can only do one. No time to farm glim.

I'd upgrade the Gjallarhorn, since you can pass that around.

There's 4 Titan Exotic Helmets, plus the Raid helm. And you already have the Armamentarium.

But that being said, it doesn't take long to get 8000 Glimmer. You could do it in an hour if you have that much time.

Still down for me. If not up by tonight, then I'm missing out since going out of town.

Got on PS3 in the early afternoon had time to install a 1.5 gig update, farm for glimmer for 10 minutes, upgrade the helm of in most light and discover that I can't buy the sniper since it is DLC and I had not downloaded it. Can't hit the store to verify since it is down. Then I got called in. Gotta say the PS3 version can't compare to how good the PS4 version looked. Hope it is up tonight.

Finally able to get on, been locked out since Christmas morning. Got to upgrade my Ballerhorn to 331 which is nice.

PSN is showing "Green" but still cannot sign on. Showing error code NP-35000-8 Network Undergoing Maintenance as of 9:35 Central....

Was able to get on around 6a CT. Upgraded my Horn and that was it. No more glimmer nor time to farm. I'm outta here for 10 days on vacation. Of course this means Xur will be selling an Icebreaker next week and Crota cheese will be out of stock.

Hey, Destiny Community.

We understand that Xur has been hard to reach for a lot of you this weekend, so we’re going to extend his stay. Our current plan is to allow him to remain in the Tower with his current inventory until Monday night at 10pm PST, just before the weekly reset. We’ll also keep an eye on the overall situation, and prolong the extension, as needed, for as long as is feasible.

Next week, Xur will return to his regular schedule, with refreshed inventory.
