Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Short missions, each independent of the others (although there's a "story" to tie them together), and unrelated to the main game. I did them all with a friend in one sitting, took maybe 4-5 hours total. Co-op is the weakest part of this game by far.

If co-op all you're looking for, I'd look elswhere to be honest.

I want to like this game, but it's such a fucking chore to play, what with hunting different wildlife to craft holsters for weapons and ammo pouches, a shitty save system that keeps me from taking a good step forward, not really knowing where to go next, and so many more annoying things that keeps this game from being as good as it can be - because the setting (even though it's very same-y), and the actual gameplay are pretty solid.

Just got this from the amazon Goldbox deal, and I haven't been so addicted to a game in a long time. I didn't mind the crafting--I did a lot of it at first so I could carry lots of ammo, money, etc., but then I loved the hunting so it didn't feel like a chore. If you take your time leveling up your stuff, all while taking radio towers etc. I think it's a nice balance. In fact, I'm only doing the main missions sporadically, having too much fun doing other stuff inbetween.

There is a lot of variables and random things that happen that make it interesting, I think, though YMMV. Me, I can't get enough.

Wow. I'm actually shocked to hear that. Are you sure you aren't accidentally playing Far Cry 2 ?

I just finished this game up last week. Really had a good time with it. Probably in my top 3 or 4 that came out in 2012.

It's actually the variable random stuff that I keep dying on that's keeping me from progressing. I've put in at least 5 hours and I've only cleared the first tower and not even 3 missions into the story. I just can't get a handle on the game it seems.

You have to start liberating enemy outposts. The game gets much easier with all the XP awarded when you liberate them "undetected".

Good tip. That's a fun way to do it too--challenging yet better than battling reinforcements. And yeah, more XP. Outposts are all a little different too and require different approaches. The one I did last night I came in silently by water, which was sweet.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Having a lot of fun with this game so far. Started playing it over the weekend and the last two days I've played about 15 hours. It's probably been since I graduated college a couple years ago that I put this much time into a game over a two day stretch.

So far the most frustrating part has been hunting the 4 leopards with a normal bow. Favorite thing are the takedowns.

Yup, hunting anything with a bow is a chore. There are some upgrades there for the bow, but still.

Use the hunting syringe that boosts damage against animals.

I never used syringes much. Just the health one and the underwater one a few times.

Thanks, I used that when hunting some of the rare animals like the bear, black panther and tiger.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

When the hell am I going to get access to the southwest side of the map? Every time I try to go there I get the "going out of bounds" notification. I just killed Vaas (which I assume means I'm close to the end of the main storyline) and I can't access this huge part of the map? Wtf.

You're not as close to the end of the main storyline as you think. You'll be taken there when it's time.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Just continue the storyline, it should open up soon. You still have Hoyt to deal with.

I beat this the other week. GREAT game! I was hoping to complete everything, but settled for taking all the towers and outposts, and most of the wanted dead quests.

There's a point of no return, the game will tell you, and of course you can continue the game after you finish the main story. But yeah, if you are really enjoying the game, there's a lot to do there.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Just beat the game. Really enjoyed this one. I think I'm done with single player, I completed all the extra stuff before finishing the game (I stopped at 60 relics for the achievement though). May give multiplayer a look. I need to do the co op missions too.

So, did anyone select
Spoiler:
join Citra
at the end? I decided to
Spoiler:
save my friends
I'm assuming most people did too.

Yeah, same as you. I'm always the good guy.

You can check the other ending in Youtube.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I felt that the whole point of the game was to save your friends. I couldn't with good conscience just go for the hot chick in the end.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Anyone on 360 willing to help out? I have to complete the "Rush" and "Payback" chapters on co-op but cannot find a public setup without having to play through all the other chapters first, it's really annoying. Why in the world wouldn't the developers set up an option to join a public game only on the chapter(s) you want to play?

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

With GTA V not coming out until September....I really hope Ubisoft has some kick ass DLC in store for this game. Aside from the completely awesome sandbox enviornment....the activites just remind me of a red dead redemption clone (knifer throwing, poker, mini-races, etc...).

I LOVED clearing the outposts (especially whent he American soldiers would yell "Where you at princess!!" "Show yourself Snow White!!!") as well.

This is one of the rare few games I didn't mind playing the whole way through....it never felt tedious and I had no idea what was going to happen next.

I agree completely. I'm nearing the end and was thinking of getting the current DLC out there. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it?

One thing I don't really like is that I'm maxed out on everything--cash, everything crafted, weapons, and skills. So there's no real motivation to get more XP that I can tell -- be nice if DLC branched out the skill trees.
