Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Just completed the transfer from our white Wii to the WiiU.
The media drive in our white Wii died a under two years and we bought a black Wii (non-GCN) of Craig's List and have been playing on that since then. Knowing we'd get a WiiU eventually, we made the choice to play Wii games on the black the one and play the WiiWare games on the white one. Later this week, we'll move the save game data from the black Wii to the WiiU. I loved the animations with the Pikmin transferring the data, made the process a little more exciting. ;) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/hRivS8wFsa0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Finally started Mario 3D World today. It's okay. Kinda like NSMB on a 3D plane. Definitely a step backwards from Galaxy. Granted I've only done World 1, but I'm not digging the structure of the game.
However, I did play with my 7 year old and it was far more fun that way. |

Anyways, any suggestions before I go through with it? |

I noticed Trine 3 DC on sale for $7.99 is it worth it? I feel like I have too many platformers already.

Trine 2 is worth every penny. Fun game solo; super fun game with 1-2 other people. The DC on WiiU adds a good amount of content to the original game.

If you have a PS4 and a 3DTV get it there instead though. See my post in the PS4 thread.

Sorry I meant 2. And no I don't have a PS4 never been a PS fan.

Also, old Wii games look phenomenal on the U. They go beyond just upscaling. I still have my Wii hooked up (through component), and I did some back-to-back with that and the U of the same games, and the difference was remarkable.

This Wii-U does not go 'beyond upscaling'. There's no processes in place to remove jaggies or anything like that.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Really? I still haven't popped in a Wii game yet, but maybe it's time to try it out today.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Best Buy has a sale (20% off) on WiiU controllers and wii remote pluses. I already have a couple of remotes, but bit on the Mario and Luigi ones finally, plus a Pro controller.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
For those wondering how the Wii games fair on the Wii U watch this video. Maybe I need new glasses but I didn't see much of a difference.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Looks identical to me as well. I only watched a few minutes though.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
You're obviously not going to see a difference in an embedded YT video window on your PC that's just a couple inches.
Try going back and forth on your 50"+ HDTV, and it'll be quite a bit more obvious. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I didn't notice that much of a difference watching it at 1080P full screen on my 27" monitor and clicking through to a few of the games, so not just a case of it being an embedded video that's a couple inches. The Wii U looks a bit sharper. Probably looks better in person since it's YouTube though.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Wii games look fine on a Wii U, but I didn't notice a huge difference in appearance, but then again I've only played a couple of Wii games on it.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So right before Christmas, Nintendo officially released their larger capacity Wii U pad battery:
https://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wc...encyPreference seems to only be available via the nintendo online store, which is stuck in 1998 or something. The only other kinda unique thing they have in stock is a Wii remote battery pack and charger, but it seems overkill at 40 bucks. So the battery is 32 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping plus tax. Ugh. Speaking of batteries, why in the world do Nintendo Wii remotes bleed charge like crazy, even when turned off? |

Yes, re-chargeable batteries all bleed their charge while off, but not nearly to the degree this fucking thing does. The only thing I recall that even approached this was my old PSP, and that was because it was defective. *edit* whoops, sorry, I thought you meant the tablet controller, not the Wii-remotes. Yes, the remotes bleed battery life (they're not even rechargeables), but not nearly as much as the tablet does. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Where do you keep your Wiimotes? Even the slightest bump of a button kicks the damn thing on. Not good for drawers.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
All of their stuff bleeds batteries. The tablet is bad because it's only got so much charge anyway, and sitting on the dock doesn't recharge it while it's bleeding, you have to reseat it to get the charge light to go back on (which is why I just spend nearly 40 bucks for a battery). The wiimotes can be sitting stationary in an isolated place and they still seem to bleed charge quickly. The Wii Board may be the worst of the lot. And I use eneloops (especially after I found normal batteries started leaking when discharged for a while)
I've read it's because the wii remotes are really only in standby mode at all times, so that a button press will register on the wii/wiiu. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Cool. But, I prefer the Zelda posters.
