Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Why is this thread now "unstuck" and free to float in the ether that is the Video Game Talk forum?
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Apparently I unstuck it yesterday. I don't know how I could accidentally do such a thing, but there you go. Fixed now.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I would like someone to confirm this for me: Can I buy virtual console games that are available for the Wii and play them on my Wii U? I'm going to buy Super Metroid, but I realized it's only listed for the Wii on Club Nintendo.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
You have to boot in Wii mode, but yeah.

Super Metroid is availible on WiiU VC. I have it on mine just haven't played it (again) yet.
Also, which one seems to be more enjoyable? The Legend of Zelda for the NES or Link's Awakening DX? I didn't play them much when I was younger. Or perhaps I should get something more accessible like Super Mario World or Mario Bros 3? I have played both Mario games a lot of times. Thanks for any advice. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Of all of those, Super Mario World is the most accessible. The original Zelda is amazing, but it doesn't hold your hand at all.

Miyamoto is no longer assisting in developing Nintendo's hardware.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Nintendo had a U.S.-based position opened for "lead graphics architect" last year, so maybe they're going for a more Western-oriented approach at some point. (Dunno if this is for the NX or something else.)

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Just finished Captain Toad....going onto the bonus content now....Pretty fun game, reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy the most....wish they'd make a sequel to that for the Wii U. :)

The kids and I spent a long while today playing Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition from the Humble Bundle a few weeks ago. I like the throwback to the sidescroller. Nice style, goog story, difficulty is a bit weird, but we are enjoying it.

Well they finally admit that the tablet was a bad idea.
Wii U's failure came down to the wrong approach at the wrong time, says Miyamoto http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/29/886...igeru-miyamoto |

Hell Mario Kart can't even do split screen right with the tablet. Nintendo didn't even do anything substantial with their own device. Blaming the consumer is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
A friendly reminder that the last day to exchange coins for games at Club Nintendo is tomorrow. The deal ends at 11:59 p.m.

Hyperkin ProCube controller in the works. Pro controller with the layout of a GameCube controller. Grips are not the same shape. The trigger and shoulder buttons look more like the standard Pro than GameCube.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Does Nintendo ever do sales on their DLC? I started playing Mario Kart 8 recently and wouldn't mind picking up the DLC for the extra tracks. I'm not really in any hurry to grab it, so if there is a chance of it going on sale I'll wait.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I don't see why Reggie just didn't get up on stage at E3 and say, hey folks, we have given up on the Wii U, it's dead. We will be coming out with our new hardware/system in the fall.
Nintendo might as well have said that. Seems like they have already thrown in the towel as far as the Wii U goes. I swore I would never buy one but you know that was the one thing my five year old wanted for Christmas last year. |
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I cant remember ever seeing a sale on DLC from the eShop.
|
Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Pretty sure I've seen sales on Nintendo DLC, but not Mario Kart specifically.

Well, this sure isn't shocking news.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
Weird. It's be one thing if it came out around the same time - but to come out 3 or so years later and not be as powerful, in this day and age, is pretty stupid of them. Shit, people are complaining when games are 720 instead of 1080 - who at N thinks power doesn't matter? It's ended up mattering with all their last few consoles. And their more successful consoles were the more powerful ones.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
So they are making the same mistake twice? Great.

The NX will arrive somewhere close to the halfway point of this generation. If it's comparable in power to the PS4 and Xbox One, who cares? People who want one of those consoles will probably buy Sony's box or Microsoft's box. If it's slightly more powerful, who cares? The PS5 and Xbox Next will be just a couple of years off, and then the NX will be an also-ran. I feel like Nintendo's better off doubling down on their Nintendo-ness. Play to their strengths...don't divide their resources between discrete handheld and discrete console development...don't invest deeply in a race they know they can't win. |
