Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
So basically this is a cash grab ala GT5 Prologue? Konami must really be hurting.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Ya probably won't be paying $30 for this
The prologue to Metal Gear Solid V comes out next month, and if you're expecting a nice chunk of Snake's story to keep you occupied until the full game is done, you should probably know that it's short. Really short. Game Informer got their hands on a near-final build of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes for their March cover story, and they say they beat the game's main mission (not including side quests or special console-exclusive missions) in less than two hours. Less than two hours! "Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short," Game Informer writes in the cover story (only available in the magazine, not online). "We completed it in just less than two hours." (For the full preview, check out this month's Game Informer.) Why Metal Gear Solid V's Prologue Is Sold Separately The first part of Metal Gear Solid V wasn't always going to be on next-gen consoles--in fact, series creator Hideo Kojima says it could have… Read… Ground Zeroes is out on March 18 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. It's designed as a prologue to MGSV—because Hideo Kojima wanted to give people something to play while they wait for the next entry in his stealth-action series—but it isn't cheap: the last-gen version is $20 digital and $30 physical; the current-gen version is $30 digital and $40 physical. P Of course, it's unfair to get judgmental before we actually get our hands on this thing; this could be the best damn two hours of gameplay we've ever seen. Stellar experiences like Journey and Gone Home are also really short. But I imagine most people expected a little more from a big-budget production like Ground Zeroes. |
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
$40.00 for two hours of gameplay? Sounds like a perfect Red Box rental to me.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Sounds like a typical MGS game. I'm assuming they calculated that gameplay time by excluding the 15+ hours worth of cinematics/radio conversations.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I wonder if they'll give this away or heavily discount it once MGS 5 is out.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Probably will bundle it with mgs5
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Mgs5 goty

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I like MGS2 but yeah... MGS2 was what it was.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
That MGS2 "prologue" was better than the rest of the game - hope this isn't a similar situation.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
1-2 hour gameplay, that's stressing it, is what the tanker mission turned into? I don't know how the team could think that that mission was a whole game originally. Are you sure about that? I'd imagine they had other stuff but still came up short. Goddamn. That was a cool mission.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I always look back in my life and try to figure out when everything started to be a dream, and that a sign was present that made things so ridiculous that I should have become self aware that my life is not really happening.
Raiden might be one of those signs. |

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
.... I think I have that DVD.
I totally would have dug a whole game in that tanker. Wonderful setting for a game. Alas it wasn't the whole thing. |

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Not sure if it was because of the negative feedback about the length of the game, but the price dropped for the disc version. Now it's $30 for all platforms.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Still too high.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Agreed. For two hours I'd pay $20.00 to have the physical disc but not more than that.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
3 days...my body is ready

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
This is an obvious rental.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I might Redbox this but I don't have a ton of time for games so I'd hate to end up paying $20 in rental fees.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I ended up reserving this at my local Gamestop today. I figure $30 is worth a gamble.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I read that Metal Gear 5 is expected to release in the early part of 2015.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
I think I will just wait until the real game comes out. I'm sure this will be super cheap by then.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Now that the rumors of it being 2 hours have been squashed, what is the actual length of the game?
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Core game seems like it can be done in 2 hours. But the 4 side missions and the console exclusive mission, for either system, extends it to maybe 4 or more hours. This all depends on how you play Big Boss.
I'm pretty much certain that we'll get some awesome package of GZ and PP. And my inner MGS whore wants to hold out for that possibility but I'm a whore for MGS. I want to play this ASAP. |
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Eh. I think I'll just go ahead and buy it. $30 for a game half as long as a $60 game doesn't seem like too big a rip-off. Also, I'm really itching to play something more "next-gen" on my PS4 until Infamous comes out.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Report back ASAP when you've played it out. I'd love to hear a player's thoughts on this one.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Still no reviews? I guess it could be bad.
I'm guessing 7.8 or so. |

I'm guessing 7.8 or so. 5.5 from Polygon, 3.5/5 stars from Joystiq, Yes from Kotaku, 5/10 from EGM, 8/10 from Gamespot as well as IGN. So it ranges from fair to good. |
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
So an average game of rather short length equals a pass for.
|
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
EGM shows they don't know shit as usual.
If you have the time to rent it and beat it in a week, it's still $20. I say $30 isn't bad at all. |
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
$20 digital on PSN store, thats not bad.

Eurogamer posted a speed run that breezes through the entire prologue in about 10 minutes: ...although that's admittedly skipping the cutscenes and having the foreknowledge that goes along with playing through it multiple times. Speedruns don't really mean anything, but still...! |
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
It's already on its way from Gamefly. That works for me.
