why is ron pearlman playing the title character?

i like how the 11 minute video, there's like 1 minute of game play.

Sounds like the typicial cinematics-to-gamplay ratio for these games.

I like the facial animation but the trailer did nothing to sell me on the new engine.

EDIT: Added a better quality version of the new trailer.

MGS: Ground Zeroes' risky content may prevent its release

Speaking to several members of the press at an event in London organized by Konami, designer Hideo Kojima revealed that his upcoming entry into the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Ground Zeroes, is going to be taking a lot of risks content-wise -- so much so that that he's not even sure if he'll be able to release the game.

"Over the past 25 year [sic] I have tried to work with the Metal Gear series to introduce more mature themes, but really it hasn't gotten there yet," said Kojima. "Compared to movies and books it still has a long way to go. That's precisely what I want to try to tackle with Ground Zeroes. Honestly I'm going to be targeting a lot of taboos, a lot of mature themes that really are quite risky. I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn't sell because it's too much."

Kojami also told those present at the round table interview that "as a creator I want to take that risk" and that he is "approaching the project as a creator and prioritizing creativity over sales." What exactly Kojima has included in Ground Zeroes that's made him almost sound nervous is completely beyond me right now. Anyone willing to take a guess?

-Child Soldiers? I'm guessing you'll be able to kill kids in this one.

I'd say fighting child soldiers is probably a good guess. Especially in today's political environment.

Butt tasting is pretty much a given.

Just typical BS from Kojima. The guy is a huge attention whore and his fans just eat it up. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Does this mean it's a short game?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

This is a prequel/introductory episode to MGS V: The Phantom Pain. So based on that and the price tag, I'd imagine it'll be short.

redrum 01-09-14 10:08 PM

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Pretty sure it's gonna only be $30 for the digital version so yep probably pretty short

Kojima said The Phantom Pains map is 100s of times bigger than this one

MGS games are like 5 hours long, so this would be what, 2.5?

So basically this is a cash grab ala GT5 Prologue? Konami must really be hurting.

redrum 02-04-14 07:50 PM

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Ya probably won't be paying $30 for this

The prologue to Metal Gear Solid V comes out next month, and if you're expecting a nice chunk of Snake's story to keep you occupied until the full game is done, you should probably know that it's short. Really short.

Game Informer got their hands on a near-final build of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes for their March cover story, and they say they beat the game's main mission (not including side quests or special console-exclusive missions) in less than two hours. Less than two hours!

"Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short," Game Informer writes in the cover story (only available in the magazine, not online). "We completed it in just less than two hours."

(For the full preview, check out this month's Game Informer.)

Why Metal Gear Solid V's Prologue Is Sold Separately
The first part of Metal Gear Solid V wasn't always going to be on next-gen consoles--in fact, series creator Hideo Kojima says it could have… Read…
Ground Zeroes is out on March 18 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. It's designed as a prologue to MGSV—because Hideo Kojima wanted to give people something to play while they wait for the next entry in his stealth-action series—but it isn't cheap: the last-gen version is $20 digital and $30 physical; the current-gen version is $30 digital and $40 physical. P

Of course, it's unfair to get judgmental before we actually get our hands on this thing; this could be the best damn two hours of gameplay we've ever seen. Stellar experiences like Journey and Gone Home are also really short. But I imagine most people expected a little more from a big-budget production like Ground Zeroes.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

$40.00 for two hours of gameplay? Sounds like a perfect Red Box rental to me.

RocShemp 02-07-14 11:05 AM

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Sounds like a typical MGS game. I'm assuming they calculated that gameplay time by excluding the 15+ hours worth of cinematics/radio conversations.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

I wonder if they'll give this away or heavily discount it once MGS 5 is out.

That MGS2 "prologue" was better than the rest of the game - hope this isn't a similar situation.
