Re: NBA 2K13 -- October 2, 2012
Well, I am finally getting around to playing my steam copy of this game I got for cheap a while back. This is the first basketball game I have played in years. And it shows, when the hell did basketball video games get so damn difficult to control. Jesus Christ. It is going to take me a while to get acclimated to this. We have come along way from Double Dribble.
The game looks great, almost photo realistic at times. The presentation is definitely high caliber. My biggest gripe with the game is the interface/menus. I have never seen a menu system more confusing than this game. I can't find anything and I seem to be running into dead ends all the time and have to figure out how to back out. I can't even find where the game sliders are, and believe me I need them. I am not doing well. I am having fun, it is just going to take a while before i get the hang of it.
i like the "My Player" feature. however my player sounds nothing like he looks when he talks. is there somewhere I can change his voice?

I play almost exclusively as the Lakers not because of any perceived strengths in the game, but because I'm a fan, primarily watch only their games on TV. I play on-line okay enough to win a little more games than I lose. I don't memorize the plays nor try to go deep in the player move lists, but just enjoy the friendly games when I can (though I think half of the gamers on-line I've played with are truly obnoxious and irritating, doing constant replays on their move, clicking and telling you to quit just because they score a bunch. Wish gamers just play the game). But now without Kobe as part of the team, it's a big letdown when playing on-line. Seems like I have little chance at all to win games.
May have to wait until after the playoffs when teams get their regular lineups again before I get back to playing on-line.

I am doing an Association as the Cavs. Currently 8-4. Have 2 more games on the road before some home games. 10 of my first 14 are on the road, sheesh.

Mostly Heat, Knicks, and this year Clippers seem to be a favorite. So I'm saying, it's frustrating not being able to play with your favorite/best players, and the Lakers are not fun to play without Kobe
I just want to play the game with the regular players for your team and see how it goes. Maybe they should have an option on-line to make this happen. I'm sure Chicago Bulls fans would also like to have Rose in their lineup. Also option to play on-line with All Star lineups.

i like the "My Player" mode, but why the hell do you suck soooo much at the beginning. I understand that I shouldn't be Lebron or Kobe my rookie year, but I have HORRIBLE stats. I was good enough to get drafted in the top 10, so you would think I would be better. I miss shots right at the basket all the time and it takes an act of God to pull off a dunk. The other recruits looked pretty good in the Rookie Showcase game, but I am waaaaay off compared to those guys. I don't want to have to play 3 or 4 seasons before my player is decent.

Use the Facebook or Mobile app to earn more VC. You'll also probably get a lot of VC early on as you hit milestones, so you won't stay crappy for that long.

Yep, it's all about VC. My guy was really mediocre at the beginning of my rookie season, and then I spent a ton of VC upgrading him around the All Star break. Wound up winning the Rookie of the Year and then the championship.

Never thought I would see the day...
Didn't someone say the mobile app was hosed? Without it, it does take a long, long time to get your guy up to even a respectable level, which is doubly hard when you're not getting enough playing time. It does help to do well in the one game you have before you get drafted, though.
You can probably get to all star status by mid season, but you'll have to play a lot of games manually. Personally, I prefer boosting medium shot and the other shot statistics, because that makes it a lot easier to score... although dunks are awesome, I usually save that for last because it's basically a luxury when you can still do a layup. It's also a lot harder when you're playing as a non-pg, since you don't control the ball, but you can still gain points and get better grades by setting screens and such.

Mobile app is working fine for me as of this morning (Android). It gave me a scare after I finished my first season last week. Blank questions and/or answers, a bunch of weird new questions I had never seen before, things like that. I figured I was screwed, but I played a couple of games of the new season and the app was back to normal the next day.
Love farming that VC. Probably wouldn't like the game near as much if I wasn't able to do that anymore. Definitely not spending any real money or points on that stuff.

Probably old news but apparently the manual says server shut down will be in November. I never read the manual so I have no idea if that's accurate. I am still surprised that 2k11 servers made it till July while 2k12 and 2k13 servers are getting shut down after 13 months.
