Imagine eating a fast food meal and then instead of fries you get a side of brussels sprouts. The problem I had is that the tone of the whole game feels off: in the first half your basically a super weak vampire with emotional problems running around a generic city. Enemies are also a bit sparse and (bosses aside) have very generic designs. They look like they were pulled straight from that recent Splatterhouse remake.

I wrapped it up last night. I will say that the second half and conclusion are much better than the initial 5 hours. But still, don't make the mistake I made and purchase this at full retail. It's a $20 buy for sure.
Thanks for the clarification. Your previous DMC2 comparison had me worried but it sounds like a game I'd enjoy after all. And since I got the previous game on sale (which likely allowed me to overlook its flaws and padding), it won't hurt me to do the same here.

After playing a few hours of this, it's a heck of a lot better than the reviews led me to believe. Yeah, the stealth segments are lame but, thus far, I've spent way more time in the Castle than in the City. So, although I like the previous one slightly better, I have to say this game is quite entertaining even early on.

Down to $19.99 @ Best Buy ($15.99 unlocked). Worth it?

That's around what I paid for the PC version so I'd vote "yes". It's a fun game. It's just not as good as the previous one due to some silly game mechanics (mainly the stealth sequences). They're not as aggravating as reviewers claimed but they really make no sense (how can Dracula rip out the heart of a giant Gorgon but is easily killed by some roided up goon with a grenade launcher?) and that's what makes the stealth segments annoying.

So is this game worth about $10 on PC and Mirror of Fate HD worth $5?

I guess the better question is, is it worth playing at all?

I enjoyed it, warts and all. It's not as good as the first game but it's still solid, despite some maddening gameplay decisions.
