Psychonauts was nominally "remastered" a few years ago when it was updated to work on newer versions of Windows and on OS X and Linux, adding SteamPlay features:

I think this is the extent of any "remastering" that will be done. It'd be nice if they could port a version of the original to XB1 or PS4, but that's not explicitly mentioned (the console add-on only mentions getting the sequel game).

Yeah they're offering them here, they're just charging an insane $18 premium if you want that version. I'm voting with my Wallet here. I'll pick it up once it's out.

I'm not sure what you mean by "original pitch," but the Fig site lists both PS4 and XB1 as "supported platforms," and this text is included in the campaign description:
The rewards boxes for 'Basic Braining' also states "+ $18 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions as an addon."

Also coming to the PS4 as a VR game is Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. This game bridges the gap between the two Psychonauts games. It's expected to release sometime in 2016. This is a completely separate game and not part of the current Psychonauts 2 crowdfunding campaign.

I suspect this is being funded with Sony's help since it's exclusive to their platform. Perhaps a PC with Occulus/Vive support will come later.

I was really hoping to play the original before this came out, but have been shorter on gaming time than expected. Seeing as how I’ve got a backlog of other things I want to get to, I’ll probably just jump right in with the sequel. A couple reviews I read make it sound like it’s not necessarily important to have played the first one.

I barely remember the story of the first one, so I'm thinking of watching some YouTube stuff or reading the Wiki to refresh my memory. I was going to also replay the original, but I never got around to it.

Looks to be fairly long too. Few reviews I saw said 20+ hours and that was without doing all the side quests.

Yeah you guys have right idea. I tried to jump into first and was liking, but just got pulled away by another and another…

I know this is only takes place days after events of 1st and I wish I could get to it, but kinda interested in jumping into this sometime this weekend. Will just read about story and end for first, but I do want to play it, so maybe I shouldn’t spoil. I dunno. This is tough.

Very good summary of the story so far for those, like me, who didn't get a chance to go back and play the two prior games.

I played through the first chapter/act. About an hour or so.
Pretty fun so far.
I had started the first game but just couldn't get beyond the dated visuals. P2 seems to do a good job at catching you up on the backstory. And it looks great, creepy, weird.
So far my only frustrating parts are the weird jumping - hold A to jump longer, then hit A again to double jump - it's just a little counter intuitive - and I've fallen a ton of times.
There are two settings that I may try - No Fall Damage (the fall damage already isn't too burdensome) and Story Mode (makes you stronger in combat).

I finished the game, and got plenty of collectibles in under 23 hours. This is a very satisfying sequel for those that were fans of the original. Loved the story, and I MIGHT go back and try to 100% it, but I doubt it. I hated searching for a random figment in the first one, and I don't think I'm going to do it in this one.

Do not even try to 100% this game before beating it. It is literally not possible to find everything until after you beat the game.

I played the first chapter. Thought it was okay but not great. Combat was kind of weird and not very fun when there are multiple enemy types being thrown at you at once. I had a bit of a hard time keeping track of my character in the fray. It's very cute and well voiced, but not as polished or as fun to play as the new Ratchet and Clank game. I may turn on that combat assist.
