Yep. Easily in my Top 10 this generation. I think I put this game as top game in the mid year poll.
GTA V will probably take the top spot for the year but this should be one of the best second places ever.
Agee with all your positives. My main con is the AI was laughable in some parts that it would take you off the game.

But none of that really detracts from the strengths of the game. I didn't even get into one of them, because I didn't know how to do it without spoilers.

Winter was my favorite part. Every bit of writing was perfection, from the solo hunt, to the David intro, to the reveal to the non-rescue. Hopefully that's vague enough.

You are a monster. You just had to kill one doctor, not all three. What the hell is wrong with you!
But I do agree, this is easily my game of the year as well. I'm not saying the game didn't have it's hiccups along the way, but the story just blew everything away that I've played this year.

I think people are really reading way too much into Joel's motivations. It's an interesting interpretation but I sincerely doubt what Naughty Dog intended.
As for the doctors. it never occurred to me that you could kill all three. I only killed the one threatening me. So I guess I didn't accept my role as villain.

And if I'm a monster, it's for renting this game for $2 from Redbox rather than buying it.
It's tough to say what ND had in mind for interpretation, but I have to at least give them credit for keeping the characters consistent. And looking back for hints on Joel:

The game also prompted me to listen to "The Road" on audiobook today and then watch the movie on Netflix tonight. I highly recommend the former, but not the latter. Movies are almost always weaker than the books they are based on, but this one was especially off IMO.

The kid actor may or may not have been the problem. He was written pretty poorly in the screenplay. I'm honestly not sure how you'd make a good movie out of that book, but it would make an interesting single-season TV series that nobody would watch.
I do recommend the book or audiobook.

I didn't get the impression that the doctors had figured it out... the audio logs sounded as if they really thought they had the cure but they'd tried on dozens (if not hundreds of others) and failed. Ellie would have died for nothing - IMO. Joel was playing the father card - and no father is going to let his daughter become a science experiment -- not to save 1 or 1,000,000 lives.

No, it's nothing like that. It sounds like you're playing the prologue where they teach you to run and look around. You don't even have a weapon yet...or at least not one you can use.
In terms of gameplay, think Uncharted meets Arkham Asylum in a Fallout 3 setting. In terms of storytelling, I have nothing to compare it to, completely unmatched.

I thought the game was a bit slow too, as did a few others in this thread when the game was released. The story was fantastic, but plenty of complaints about the gameplay and action/stealth, which has never been Naughty Dog's strong suit in the Uncharted games anyway.

I played through end to end last weekend, and I think I remember taking Ellie back to a place and falling asleep. I don't think I even realized that was my place...thought it was a safehouse or something. Anyway, yeah, you are very very early...just after the basic tutorial.
It's not a super fast paced action shooter like Gears or even Uncharted. It's more deliberate like Arkham Asylum in terms of pace, and I find the stealth very similar as well. Edit: You also spend some time scavenging and crafting, which slows things down, but I enjoy some light inventory management.

Slow? Never play Fallout (my favorite series, I played Fallout 3 for close to 200 hours!!!).
But, although I have mentioned several times how I love this game, I agree with some of the complains here. But it's also all about the setting, the chemistry you have with the game. I love end of the world/post apocalyptic settings, in movies, books, videogames. So this is my kind of thing. The prologue is so brutal, as a father (there we go again!) I needed some time to process that part.
The game is an emotional experience, (that's the word what I was looking for!), so if you are not engaged big way, you will notice all the cons and not like the game that much.

beat it last night. I played on Hard, and I'm not usually a stealth gamer -- I ran & gunned Dishonored. There were some frustrating parts, but the hardest parts, I was able to run & skip without clearing rooms. I really enjoyed it, the setting, the plot, the actors. Sure it was redundant at times, killing enemies, but really unless they added platforming or puzzles, what else can they do? Its a combat based game.
