Maybe to prevent you from getting pulled out of the experience? I dunno.

I just started Winter. How far do I have left?

Thanks to the new PS3 update, I disabled trophies. But afterwards I checked and you're right. There are hardly any trophies in this. Makes sense since 90% of trophies are bullshit like "you just completed the tutorial". Heck, Heavy Rain had one for just starting the game at all.

I just started Winter and I'm loving this game.

I understand the "repetitive" complaint, but that's something you can say about any game. I guess it depends if it's the kind of repetitiveness you like. That was my case.

You guys didn't get the "Make one of every craftable item" trophy? That popped up fairly early on for me, and I wasn't specifically going for it.

I got it but since I disable trophy pop ups, I dunno when I got it.

On a side note regarding the ending, I like the subtle bit of acting when
Spoiler:
Joel touches the face of his watch when he tells Ellie that you need to find something worth living for.
It was masterfully done and I'm glad they didn't overdo it by inserting a closeup as most directors would.

They added the trophies extremely late in development, and they didn't even work/unlock properly properly for a while after that. When I played it, it was still Uncharted 3 trophy icons, and I got credit for beating the game on normal about 2 hours in

I always want to do this in story heavy games, as they always take me right out of it and remind me that it's a video game with arbitrary bullshit trophies.

I didn't know they added that ability.

Would a trophy pop up really remind you that it's a video game any more then random cues to press triangle or X throughout the game?

Maybe I'm not expressing it the right way. I just find it distracting, particularly [DING...CLEVER TROPHY NAME!!] in the middle of dialogue.

Wow....the last 1/3 of this game gets brutal (game and story). From the point
Spoiler:
where the brothers meet their end to that last death
it just drives you. And wow...
Spoiler:
David is a real phsyco!! That was a tough "level".

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Just finished. Clocked in 18 hrs 5 min. That was some of the best voice acting since Uncharted series. The Winter section i saw coming in that
Spoiler:
Taking control of Ellie at some point when Joel started showing Ellie how to use weapons.

And the last part made me sick to my stomach in the hospital
Spoiler:
Having to kill the doctor and take away the last hope for humanity . What a selfish prick

I really hope there's not a sequel and this is just a one off game. Not that i have anything wrong with the game I loved it but not every great game needs a sequel and the way they ended things I think they should just keep it as a single game.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Just finished it. Loved the story, the atmosphere, the acting, the visuals...everything but the gameplay. I was still getting frustrated with the stealth and combat even in the final area.

I'm glad I completed it, and I might even play through it again, but my first reaction is that it falls short of GOTY because of that.

Total gameplay time was 19:25, with 94 deaths ().

I know I'm alone but I was cool with how that all played out.
Spoiler:
Given all the journals along the way (particularly Marlene's journal and voice recorders found throughout the hospital), I had no sympathy for the Fireflies. All throughout the journey it was clear to me they didn't know their ass from their elbow when it came to the infection and vivisecting Ellie was a Hail Mary at best. And even if they got her brain, I wouldn't trust them not to fuck it up. The doctor you shoot had a really cliché God Complex and Marlene's journal made it clear she wasn't interested in the cure for the sake of humanity but rather that she'd be seen as a hero (given the losses she suffered she was being viewed as a "dumb grunt" and she desperately needed a win to save face).

Basically, the Fireflies had become as ineffectual and inhumane as the military they were fighting against. It's not wonder Tommy gave up on them. And, in the end, Joel's choice mirrored Ellie's. Which is why she chose to accept Joel's lie (it's pretty obvious she knew he was full of shit).

Naughty Dog have stated that if there is a sequel (which seems likely given the sales numbers), it will not feature Ellie and Joel. Their story is done.

I'm cool with that. As for the future DLC being story based I'm assuming we'll get to play as other characters we caught only a glimpse of. Maybe one with Joel's brother or Bill and his

It'd be cool if in the sequel you got to play as
Spoiler:
Ish. As far as I could tell, he actually survived (I found a journal in a house that seems to have been written after the sewer ordeal) and his is a pretty dark tale with what happened to that family that joined him in the sewers.

After watching the scenes at the end again the black woman that's apart of the fireflies mentions
Spoiler:
"You have no idea what I've been through I've been through worse than you" or something to that effect

With that quote I think she'll be in one of the future DLC's

You find out exactly what she's referring to in the game proper if you find her journal. Although I guess they could do a prequel to before she hired Joel and Tess.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Finished this game a few days ago. GOTY so far for me.

Top 10 this generation, etc., etc.

I've reading a lot of articles, with spoilers, about the game after finishing. Good ones in Kotaku for anyone interested.

I will spoilerize my comments to speak more freely.

I WILL TALK ABOUT THE ENDING!

Spoiler:

Yes, it felt like a movie. But that was a good thing for me. Really immersive and emotional. Yeah, I suck at stealth games, so I died a lot, and took me 19 hours to complete the game. But I also felt really accomplished in some parts where I didn't kill some infected, and just make them move to another part of the map, so I could advance. I think it would be more helpful if I would have researched how to attack the different type of infected, that could have saved me at least a couple of hours.

About the characters, both mains were great. I think Ellie's acting was superior, though. They grow her character more in the game.

I loved the last third of the game. In the Uncharted games the last third of the game is a big chore, I just want to finish. In this game I was in awe. Ellie was just awesome. Joel is a badass.

Yes, I killed the THREE fucking doctors, I thought for a second about checking about what could I do, if I could ask questions or something, but decided to just become Joel and kill everyone. Thankfully the designers didn't limit my options there

The ending with the question was great. The lie. And she knew he was lying. And she's ok with that. Awesome!

Can they make a sequel without Joel and Ellie? Sure, but I'm not sure if it can be as great.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Just finished the game and loved it. Going to play Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite next so I guess its a GOTY trifecta for me.

With regards to the ver end of Winter:

Spoiler:
I have the dialogue turned on so I know what they are saying even when the audio is weak or its noisy....right after Ellie kills the guy with the machete to the head, Joel runs up and hugs her. He says something to here but the audio was super low and the captions never displayed. Was this on purpose? Like Lost in Translation/Bill Murray thing?

With regards to the end:

Spoiler:
I agree with the person above that the fireflies were kind of dumbasses and the doc wouldn't have known what to do with the brain. I also got the impression from the doctor's audio log that there were other folks who were immune but they still hadn't found a cure...so I don't think they would have gotten anything out of killing Ellie and I agree with Joel here. So at the end, he only partially lied, I do think there were "others like her" even though they didn't really stop looking for a cure.

Great stuff but I do agree that there don't need to be sequels. It took me a little over 16 hours.

The dialogue was deliberately muted in that part.
