Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I'm more angered that my local TRU was going to the trouble of marking their single figures a whopping 5% and advertising it in store as a big sale. It's a real dick move on their part to inch up the prices with a new wave, and Christmas, around the corner and then offer such a tiny sale.

I was able to score a Jet Vac at Wal-Mart yesterday and added that to the Sprocket, Flashwing and the 3 pack that has the cannon we are giving our son for the holiday. I was hoping I'd find a Hothead but we has more than enough figures at this time without it.

If you have prime, 1 day shipping is $3.99 I think? I don't remember as I am too cheap to use it.

Thanks. I might just get it and save it for Easter or to help curb the jealousy when we have kid #2 here soon. Skylanders make an excellent gift and distraction.

What a crock for them to raise the prices once again. Also, what a dick (but smart) move by Activision to release only reposes knowing that a lot of people will buy them as Christmas gifts where before they would likely have sold less. Then they can actually release the new figures after the holiday safely knowing that they will sell because they are new. Pinche bastards!

isn't Toys R Us running a B1G1 free sale on single characters 23rd & 24th?

If they do it correctly, it should only apply to the original figures. They screwed up the last $5.99 sale and made it apply to the new figures so maybe they'll screw it up again?

Same here... simply because I thought they looked pretty good. But they are exceptions as I'm sure yours were. :)

Went by Toys R Us (later) this morning because my daughter wants a Shroom Boom Lightcore. They had a few of the new wave 3 (Cynder, Eruptor (non Lightcore)) and that was about it. They have raised the $9.99 figures to $10.99, and the Lightcore figures from $11.99 to $12.99 although they are on sale for 5% off.

We also stopped by Target, Wal-Mart, and GameStop but no new figures anywhere. Guess we will still have to take a shot Sunday.

So they raise the price 9% and then put them on "sale" for 5% off? What a-holes!

BTW : I've got so many Skylanders to give my son for Christmas, that I've decided to keep the new Golden Flameslinger up on a shelf in my office along with my Nathan Drake, Max Payne and Ratchet & Clank figurines. He'll never miss it.

I wonder if they are in cahoots with Activision to eek the prices up a bit more to see if people still bite or if they are doing it on their own?!

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

^Based on what happened last year I'd say on their own. TRU was one of the first (if not the actual first) to charge a couple of $$ over MSRP when figures were scarce and going for big bucks on ebay last Christmas season. Gamestop was also guilty of this. Apparently Activision was paying attention as the last few figures to be released apparently came with a higher MSRP (~$9 rather than ~$8) as everyone was charging the extra $1 (or two with some retailers) and the prices on those pretty much stayed $1 higher on them even when plentiful stock was available. At least this year you an actually walk into many stores and get just about a full set of the "new" figures and probably the entire set of reposed ones (they seem to be rather stagnant around here). That's gotta cut into TRU sales in any area where thay have competition down the street and really makes you wonder what they are trying to prove with inflated prices.

The whole game almost feels like a huge money grap/ripoff except that the actual toys are good quality and priced roughly the same as similarly sized/quality action figures/toys that don't work with a video game. It's the pull by the kids to "get them all" that's the real "gotcha" on these and for the most part it works. After all, many of us parents/grandparents are "collectors" and these things appeal to us as well so we tend to cave saying it's "for the kids" when it's just as much for us. ;)

The paint jobs on these sure are shoddy and sporadic. You can grab two of the same figure and both will have varying imperfections. Also, you can add Lightning Rod to Flashwing as the group of characters that most deserve lightcore but yet having the ball dropped. Imagine both lightning rods lighting up.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Looks like TRU raised the price of everything by $1. The 3 packs are $25.99.
Apparently the wave 3 series 2 characters aren't very popular as my store had ~8 of each figure a few hours ago.

I think people are caring less about the reposes and add the dollar increase which equals less figures sold. They get what they deserve.

Yeah, my 4 year old daughter tells me that she doesn't want any of the reposes as she doesn't need two of the same character. Sadly, I still want one of each figure.

If there was a way to way to transfer your character data to the reposes they might be more attractive. Who wants to re-level all their characters?

Power leveling!

BTW, a couple of Lightcore figures are $6.99 at Amazon. Prime shipping if you've got it.

Drobot
Eruptor

Also, the Empire of Ice adventure set is $9.99 (Prime-eligible), which looks to be a new low.

Direct links to the series 2 figures Krayzie mentioned...$5.99 each and Prime-eligible:

Drill Sergeant
Stump Smash
Double Trouble
Sonic Boom

Yeah, but that doesn't help with money, upgrades or challenges.

There was a level in the first game that you could get a lot of money pretty quickly. I forgot which one it was though. Basically you'd run through a certain portion of the level then restart it over and over again until you got all the money you needed. I haven't really done any challenges with any of the characters though.

If it's still live, amazon has a few series 2 figures for $5.99 as well.

Money is not necessarily an issue. I originally posted this tip in January of this year but it bears repeating for those who are new to the game:

With the Pirate Adventure Pack you can get the tresure chest bonus over and over and over and over... It works *great* in the "ruins" (hub). When placed on the portal, it'll appear in one of several pre-determined locations, one of which is on the hill to the left of Persephone (the upgrade fairy) with another in the ruins close to her location. Place and replace the chest on the portal until it's in either of those locasions, get the treasure, visit and talk Persephone (or just talk to any other character) and the treasure will be available again in the *same location* - no need to remove and replace the Treasure Chest item on the portal each time. You can quickly rack up the dough for those upgrades.

I'll be curious to see if the Treasure Chest works the same way in Giants to quickly build up gold.

Of course you still have the challenges to do again which can be a real pain for some of them.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Yeah, the treasure chest trick doesn't work for me on the 360. Once used in the hub world that's it, one time use. It will never respawn.

So can you use the reposes in the original game?

Yes you can, but of course they only have the abilities and level cap of the original versions of their figures.

We'll be officially getting this tonight and I'm sure it'll get at least one play before everyone leaves for home so I may give the ability a test on the Wii. Of course that was probably a unintentional "feature" in the original game.

But the upgrade paths are the same (except for the Wow Pow additions) and gold carries over (at least that's what I surmise based on general talk) so you could use the original game to "quickly" upgrade the current path and/or build up gold to use in Giants.
