That seems like such a lost opportunity. Maybe the design sense is too "American" or something.

Those Infinity figures are supposed to retail for like 13 bucks a piece, similar to Skylanders.

I don't even want to know how many different figures Disney will have...

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

They said that there will be about 30 that come out at the start and then who knows how many more after that. I will likely get very little if any of this as I have no desire to start another collection and take up more space that I already do not have.

Even with the Disney brand, I think this is going to be a big factor for a lot of families who already invested in Skylanders. It could be an uphill climb for Disney.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

This was going to be a factor whenever they got around to Skylanders 3 (and honestly it's also a factor for Skylanders Giants). But Disney is the right property to give it a go, because they have a strong brand, recognizable characters, and they should be able to get shelf space in the toy or videogame aisle, which is probably the biggest obstacle most copycats would face. I mean, the announcements so far are Pixar/Pirates/Phineas and Ferb related mostly, they haven't even dipped into the Mickey Mouse/Disney Jr./Princesses/Fairies/animated classics/Star Wars/Marvel stuff yet. I could go for some Duck Tales figures. Heck, they have their own mall stores and theme park stores as well.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Not to mention that if they use iconic Disney characters people will purchase them *outside* the game just because they are collectors of all things Disney or certain characters.

Walmart and Gamestop.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

WooHoo! Thanks for the location info! I didn't have to check Gamestop as I got the last (only?) Thumpback and the next to last Eye Brawl from WM! All that's left is Ninjini.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Found a Thumpback today at a gamestop (actually called and they had one - held it for me as I raced over) .. now to find the eyebrawl ... Guess I'll keep calling the gamestops in my area

Thanks to Draven, we now have Dragon's Peak too. If I can just find a Darklight Crypt somewhere, we'll have all the adventure packs.

Yeah you do! I'm keeping my eyes open.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Thumpback and Eye Brawl are both currently available for order from Gamestop online. Store pickup is not an option - but they've both been showing up in stores.

*EDIT*
Just noticed TRU has jacked up all prices by $1 or more. They are now:

Series 1 & 2 singles: $10.99
Light Core: $12.99
Giants: $15.99
Triple Packs (series 1 & 2): $25.99

The *only* "bargain" they currently offer is the "Dragonfire Cannon Battle Pack" for $19.99 - they also are having a B2G1 sale on *some* figures.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I likely will not be buying from Toys R Us again unless they have an exclusive figure. Charging 15 bucks for Giants is already ludicrous but going even higher than that hits my stopping point.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Yeah, this is one way to kill the cash cow before Disney Infinity hits.

And after the Disney stuff (but now, also from Disney) will be the Skylanders-type game with Star Wars characters. Can you say market saturation?

I am waiting for the marvel version. I want Ice Man!

Yeah, that too, then DC, etc. etc.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I already have enough collectible figures and such of Marvel, Star Wars, etc. that I don't need to buy them for a video game. That is what makes the Skylanders unique is that they were created for the game instead of pimping already created characters in yet another format. At what point do we draw the line between collecting (getting robbed) and gaming?

Seriously, the few figures we have seem by Disney for Infinity could literally be toys given out in a Happy Meal.

When I get my Ice Man figure.

You can't tell me that those figures look like they couldn't be the prize in a happy meal.

TRU sent me an email saying they will have thumpback and eyebrawl in stock tomorrow morning.

It could but you could also argue that the skylanders could pass as happy meal toys too. Disney went with a more cartoon like look for the figures so hopefully they don't feel cheap as well.

Just got an email from Toys R Us saying that Thumpback and Eyebrawl will be available when stores open tomorrow (1/25) ... my son gave me his money ... lol
