Borderlands 2 Bug Wiping Progress for Some Players
Badass Ranks, golden keys, achievements, skins and more wiped upon start-up.
A bug affecting some players of Borderlands 2 is apparently wiping unlocked progress on all platforms. As noted in a 33-page thread on the official Gearbox forums, some players are starting up the game to find Badass Ranks, golden keys, heads, skins and achievement progress reset to zero. Worse still, menus displaying the content or challenges don’t actually reset, meaning the game thinks the content is unlocked even if you don’t have access to it, so you can’t re-earn skins or replay challenges in order to get them back.
Gearbox community manager Chris Faylor responded to the thread, thanking fans for their feedback and noting “Our engineers are looking into this, and the information you've provided has proven to be a great resource while we investigate. At the moment, it seems to be a fairly rare issue and we'll keep you updated on when we resolve it.”
The only solution discovered so far comes in this post from user CrimsonSamuraiX who notes “If anyone logs into their character and notices you've been hit with the glitch and lost your badass ranks / skins, try immediately quitting the game without saving (shutting the game off on the spot might work too)." He reports that doing so has reportedly restored progress for some users.
We reached out to 2K about the bug and a spokesperson told us "Gearbox is looking into it." Are you experiencing the problem? Tell Gearbox your situation on its official forums and let us know in the comments below.

This isn't completely true. While he shows up 100% of the time before this event, there's still a 10% of him randomly showing up after (I found that info online).
I can confirm it. I definitely have found him after, albeit MUCH less frequently.

Speaking of that point in the story, I know it's story related so it deserves a spoiler tag, but IMO the game doesn't really get going until that point. After that, there's an explosion of side missions and the world really opens up.
If there's people out there that still don't know what that "certain part of the story" is, then my word of advice would be don't stress over golden keys or not finding any awesome loot just yet. You still have a long, LONG way to go. Especially if completing all the side missions is part of your plan. I've gotten some crazy guns just buy doing the stuff that isn't available until WAY after that point in the game.

This game is pretty massive. I'm level 31, about 30 hours in, and I still haven't beat the game. I've been trying to do every side quest I find though, but I have something like 15 sidequests right now, and I probably have 2 or 3 story quests left I think.

I'm well past the "event." So good to know about Michael and how he doesn't show up as frequently as he used to.

Re: Borderlands 2: "xbox360/ps3/pc" -2012
Wow, playthrough 2 is insane. Everything's improved.
Loot: The white loot I was finding at the very beginning is way better than the purple loot from the end of playthrough 1, for the most part. For that reason, I'd definitely recommend saving gold keys until the second go-around, if you plan to do one at all.
Enemies: Greater variety, smarter, tougher; it's similar to playing other games on the hardest difficulty setting. At level 33 I was getting owned pretty regularly right from the beginning. It makes the first go-around, when you could just charge in a lot of the time, seem like cake. Each enemy requires a strategy, each bit of progress through an area feels like an accomplishment, and it's essential to carry corrosive, fire, and shock weapons on you at all times. In the very first area I had shielded bandits shooting at me (with my fire weapons barely damaging their shields) while armored (!) psychos were charging me.
XP: I'll just say that the "My First Gun" mission netted over 18K and got me a significant progress from 33 to 34, and leave it at that.

I'm not sure, probably about 45 hours? At least 3-4 hours of that were spent running back through every single area in the game trying to find the last location I needed to unlock the World Traveler achievement. I also spent time grinding out the remaining challenges that didn't come naturally to get to level 2 of each one for that achievement.

This is a secret, so shhh!
Pitchford's wife is giving golden keys from time to time, and she only has 258 followers right now, I know, you don't have to follow her to see her posts but still. The only bad thing is that her codes are single use.

How do you link your live account to the site? I registered on my Xbox and confirmed e-mail. Got my extra keys and all. Now when I go on the shift web site my live profile doesn't show up.

I can't say with any certainty, but games like this have trained me to always complete secondary missions first lest you happen into a "Point of No Return".
I'd say just play it safe. You'll get to the next "big event" eventually anyway.

Last night I played I joined a game with a friend that had two others in it. First time with four people. I didn't know the other two but "most" of the time was ok except when weapons or chests were open. one player, one I did not know, made it point to pretty much grab everything before the others did, no matter what it was, character mod or whatever and sell it. Never paused and let us look, never asked if we may need it or see if it would help out period.
Not certain how others here play but the small group I play with, we at least talk and ask about what's available, if something is better than what you have or if one needs a certain gun or mod.
