I have ~9000 Wii points collecting dust. I really wish they made one marketplace for the 3ds, dsi and wii so I could use the points on whatever I wanted.

Alrighty, I just finished paying off both the Wii U and NSMBU, so I'm good to go. Right now that is the only other game I have paid for other than the pack in, but I'll get ZombiU at some point at launch as well. I have it on preorder from newegg for $47.99 I believe it is after that $12 off coupon. I think I'll be good with Mario while that one ships though.

Have you guys seen this?

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gxIhZYjyBxc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And a new ZombiU video...

Honestly, I just don't see the point of the touch-screen controller. Why am I going to want to keep looking back and forth between the controller and the television? It really seems like it would just disrupt the gameplay, especially on games where you need to be cycling through items and weapons quickly.

So use the pro controller instead?

Frys has the basic console up for pre order, took a chance and ordered one.

I haven't been following development of the console all that closely, but if we can use the Pro Controller in place of the Game Pad on all games that seems like a pretty god idea. I just figured on some games they'd be designed in such a way that we have to use the Game Pad.

Thanks man, there are games I need to replace, and new ones I failed to buy the first time around. My store just got the Wii U branded Wii remotes. LOL I had a few people ask if we got the system early or something.

That's the hope but since it's not included with the console it's coming off like the Classic Controller Pro. Nice idea but poorly supported.

However, since third party games should be on all platforms most games should have a "pro" mode sans tablet that work with the pro controller.

The damn thing comes out in a month, you'd think we'd know everything by now.

I'm kind of unimpressed by what I've seen but maybe it's like what everyone else is saying. They can only push the graphical threshold so much for the time being. And Mario is back to being 2D. Not that I mind but it looks like a better looking DS Mario. Not the same feeling I got when I saw Mario 64 for the first time. I like that the controller has a screen but it feels pretty superfluous. Probably future games will do something really cool with it. Like an ALIENS game with a motion tracker.

According to someone on CAG, Rayman has been pushed back. Pikmin & Rayman were the two reasons I'm buying this machine and now they're not coming out until next year.

So until then it will be a $500 Mario investment. :(

I like that it has a very distinct Super Mario World vibe to it, while the previous NSMB games have a very distinct Super Mario 1 & 3 vibe. SMW has always been my favorite so I'm looking forward to this one.

In that case, I'd say get your pre-order and then judge the Holiday market to make a few bucks. By the time the game(s) you want to play come around, you'll be able to get the hardware again.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

Bayonetta 2 was dead until Nintendo stepped in.

"Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes," says Atsushi Inaba, executive director at Platinum Games. He tells Polygon that Nintendo, the sequel's publisher, was a key partner in getting the game made.

"We are not viewing this as a change of platform," Inaba told Polygon in an interview at Tokyo Game Show. "We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U."

In the wake of Bayonetta 2's announcement as an exclusive for the Wii U, some fans vocalized their displeasure, hoping that the sequel would be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 like the original Bayonetta. Developers at Platinum Games said in a series of statements this week that it does not want to alienate its fans.

Sega was responsible for publishing the original Bayonetta, but the company has since scaled back on the number of titles it publishes. Platinum Games and Sega's most recent collaboration, Anarchy Reigns, has not been published outside of Japan, a source of frustration for Inaba. He says he still doesn't know when Anarchy Reigns will be released overseas, as Sega has not offered him an update.

Regardless of the change of platform from PS3 and Xbox 360 to Wii U, Inaba says it won't impact Bayonetta 2's core gameplay.

"We create the basic framework of our games on the PC, so even though the hardware changes it doesn't influence the creation of our games. We've already developed our own engine to work with multiple platforms.

"Because of the Wii U GamePad, we are putting extra thought into how to use these differentiating features," Inaba said. "There's a difference in the game design side, but we are enjoying the challenges of creating games for new hardware."

Has there been any information about the sound on this console? I know it doesn't have an optical out, but will it have 3D (multichannel) sound through HDMI? I'm guessing that it will, but you never know.

BTW, isn't it about time to make this the Nintendo sticky thread? The latest Wii thread has gotten 2 posts since June.

I personally love side scrollers and and anything in regards to retro gaming. I'm sure Mario U will be fun. But it's weird to see the latest Nintendo system and latest Mario game going backwards. I got the same feeling seeing the Mario U clip as I did seeing Clockwork Knight for the first time.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

Ubisoft was developing Rayman Origins for Wii U, because they thought the system was going to be out a lot earlier. They must have switched gears and formed it into a brand new game.

Ubisoft expected the Wii U to be released much earlier than this winter, Rayman creator Michel Ancel told Nintendo Power magazine (via Nintendo Everything).

In fact, Ancel even began work on Rayman Origins for the new system.

"To be honest, we were on Wii U very early – even for Origins," said Ancel.

"We did not know exactly when Nintendo would release the system, but we started making Origins for Wii U. [At that point], we thought Wii U would come out a lot earlier. We worked very closely with Nintendo [on Wii U] early on, giving them feedback on the various prototypes.

"When we finished Origins, it was time to start thinking about Wii U again, because [the hardware] was nearly complete."

Sadly it appears all this time working with Wii U hasn't helped the development team get Rayman Legends out in time for the Wii U launch – earlier this week Ubisoft confirmed the game will now ship in Q1 2013 to enable expectations to be exceeded.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com...tion-controls/

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth is a 100% motion controlled game on Xbox 360, but the Wii U version is giving players the option to use standard controls.

If you enjoy moving your arms wildly when playing a video game, then you can do just that with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck on the Wii U version. If you are more inclined to play games sitting down, exerting as little energy as possible, then the Wii U is ready to accommodate for you as well.

Polygon reports that Ubisoft developers detailed the Wii U controls at New York's Comic-Con during a Q&A session with fans.

Those not wanting to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck can use the GamePad to perform moves and control the characters. As the Wii U is currently only supporting one GamePad, the second player will still have to use the motion controls to play the game.

Guess ya didn't read the article. There is a door/flap in front as well as two more USB ports in back...sorry, no door/flap covering those -ptth-

Kitano: Speaking from the standpoint of casing design, while the basic structure resembles the Wii, there are various differences that made things more convenient. For one thing, the SYNC Button is on the outside. We heard that a lot of customers had made inquiries about how to synchronize the Wii Remote, so I thought there was a merit to that. Also, the USB connectors, which are only on the backside of Wii, are in front as well, making it easier to connect USB peripherals from the front.

Iwata: There are two on the front and two on the back.

Kitano: Right. Another detail is the cover. For the Wii, it came out forward, but this time it goes in.

And some info on the pro controller:

Retailers are boasting Nintendo's Wii U Pro Controller will last up to 80 hours "on a single charge". As reported by Nintendo Life, both Gamestop and Amazon feature product descriptions that reveal the supposed battery life. Although Nintendo hasn't confirmed this, I assume the descriptions were provided by the platform holder.

Your games, your way. However you think of your gaming style - hardcore, old school, or purely nostalgic - the Wii U Pro Controller puts you in the game. Designed for accessibility and extended gameplay comfort, the Wii U Pro Controller features the dual analog sticks and ergonomic button layout that you've come to expect, as well as a rechargeable battery that can last up to 80 hours on a single charge. The Wii U Pro Controller can be used for playing a variety of games - from packaged games at retail to downloadable games from the Nintendo eShop. Look on the back of Wii U game packaging to see which games use the Wii U Pro Controller. Not compatible with the Wii system or games.

While some may be disappointed in its lack of backwards compatibility, the longer battery life is more than enough to make up for it. In comparison, most PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers offer 25-30 hours of charge. The WIi U touchscreen GamePad offers just five hours.

Unfortunately, the Pro Controller is not included in either of the Wii U console bundles. It can be purchased separately for $49.99 from retailers.

The 80 hour battery life on the pro controller is phenomenal. Now if only we'd get news whether or not it's a peripheral that will be supported since it's not included with the console.

Also joining the ranks of Pikmin & Rayman, Warren Spector said Epic Mickey 2 is likely to get bumped as well.
