All I can say is last night BF3 was dripping awesome sauce all over me. I loved every second of it. And I was basically playing solo in a squad for an hour. But it didn't matter because the rest of the team were all playing correctly. At one point while I was in a tank (solo), I got disabled and couldn't repair myself because I was playing assault. I was just about to bail and a random blueberry ran up to me, repaired me, and went on his merry way. It was awesome!

I think they tweaked the INRV to be consistent across all maps, but I'm not sure it's as good as it was at launch. The flashlights were definitely nerfed. I didn't see any last night. The suppression effect is still there but that probably benefits me more than it hinders so i have no complaints about it.

I'm kind of in the same boat. In BC2, I'm having fun at least 80% of the time, but BF3 feels grindy...and I feel like everybody in the game can aim except for me.

I read the patch list, and I'm super excited to see a colorblind mode. I always had to do double takes in BF3, and it was pretty frustrating. With the blue in BC2, it was never a problem.

I guess I had somehow already downloaded the patch, but I don't see how. I did have to redownload Karkland though, and it's finishing up right now.

I have zero intention of getting close quarters...more of the shit I hate.

I really had no desire for close quarters either. I talked to someone today that has premium and he said it was pretty cool. He said it's only 8 vs 8 on the close quarters maps because they're smaller. And they're heavy on destruction. Also there's a new mode called gun domination or something like that where everyone starts with pistols, and every 2 kills you get a better weapon. If you get knifed you start over with a pistol. Sounds very interesting. Definitely different than anything that's been in battlefield before. Not sure if that mode comes with just the close quarters maps purchase or with the premium.

That mode sounds just like gun game in CoD.

Yeah, the guy said "the new maps are very Modern Warfare-ish". I said I wasn't interested but he said it was cool. Lots of destruction and less players so it doesn't seem crowded.

So I played BF3 for about a half hour. The recoil is now unbelievably even more pronounced. They actually patched in MORE FUCKING RECOIL.

It made my PDW-R, which I could sort of use, completely worthless. Apparently, flash suppressors make a difference on LMGs now, so I may try that on the SAW.

I'm not imagining this by the way. It's actually in the notes for the 1.04 patch.

I'm just in utter disbelief. Fuck this game and fuck DICE for going in this direction. Hoping they do another Bad Company and tune it more for consoles.

 aww, c'mon. It's not THAT bad.

Just because you don't get the ACE pin every round doesn't mean the game sucks. ;)

re: Battlefield Talk

Yes it does. ;)

No, I just don't enjoy wrestling with my gun.

I want to play a game and not a war sim, and it doesn't even work as a sim, because I've fired some of these guns in real life. The M-16 and the M-4 have virtually no kick whatsoever. The AK, maybe a bit, but it's a very controlled springy up and down recoil. Also, you calibrate your weapon's sights for your preference at the range, so if you are prone to lift, you can adjust for that.

Doing research, somebody suggested that you aim at the feet with any automatic. That's just absurd.

There are some fairly solid sounding rumors for Bad Company 3, so there is some hope for two different formulas with the BC series being more console focused and the the main series being more PC focused.

I gotta say that Playstation Plus is both excellent and terrible. I woke up this morning and the automatic updates gave me a fantastic present by downloading and installing the update for Battlefield 3.
However I also noticed that it gave me digital crabs by downloading the update for Playstation Home. :(

Digital crabs.

Yeah, I had the update too, but I thought my PS+ was expired.

I'll probably try BF3 again to find a gun I can use, but I was really discouraged yesterday. I had gotten in a bit of a groove with that little PDW. Now, it has more kick than the M60 did in BC2. -rolleyes-

Oh, and it's Friday. Bitches. I'd planned to roll some BF3 tonight, but I don't think I can take the aggrevation.

I had 6 friends in a lobby last night, including Spatch, Lee, OG and me in squad. The first round, we started way behind and never quite got a foothold, but from there, we just rolled...to the extent that we emptied out the other team on two lobbies.

I was happy to finally get the road kill pin, so I guess that was the highlight for me. I never really made a point of getting all of the pins, so I guess I'll have to do that. I think the stationary guns will probably be the most painful, since I can never quite figure out how to aim them. Other than that, I think it's just the boat pin and a couple of others.

I'm also creeping up on 500 Ace pins (out of 2000 rounds played), and I think I passed 150 Combat Excellence pins last night.

That's your own fault for not deleting Home, like any rational person would have. ;)

Article about BC3 rumor...also on Gamespot, but I like the comments on here.

http://mp1st.com/2012/05/16/battlefi...ployee-resume/

I was planning to play some BF3 tonight (and still will if others are dying to play it), but my general feeling is "fuck that game". I'll likely be on BC2 if anybody wants to squad up.

re: Battlefield Talk

I've noticed almost all of the BC2 stories lately end with rolling the other team to the point where you're racking up combat excellence pins in the other teams spawn and they all quit.

I guess maybe I prefer the challenge of BF3. Aggravating... challenging... whatever. When it's difficult and I do well, I feel like I accomplished something. When a game gets that easy, it just seems boring to me.

chess 07-13-12 03:56 PM

re: Battlefield Talk

I'm in plenty of competitive games. The stories only end that way because that's when we usually quit.

I don't mind a challenging game, but I prefer the challenge be the skill/organization of the other team rather than the bad mechanics of the game itself.

Happy birthday to Spatch!

He, Octo, OG and I rolled a little bit last night. We played mostly against one of those teams that didn't go out of their way to win the games and seemed more focused on getting kills. But they were still pretty good and held their own. I was very happy to get that "Terry" guy's tags at the end.

Thanks, chess. My wife's been home sick the last few days yet yesterday she was home from work but feeling a little better so we went to see Prometheus while our baby was at day care, then we got some pretty good take out for dinner. Then the ladies went to bed and I went to the battlefield.

I played both BF3 with 19K and a guy I'd friended on BFBC2 last fall (mercurius, for those of you who also friended him) as well as BFBC2 with the above-mentioned squad. I agree with chess's assessment of their style of play and it was fun racking up so many vehicle kills. Their chopper pilots were just never that good or at least they were used to being able to fly straight at the AA gun / VADS at Bravo on Port Valdez and take it out. But nope, I took them out. Again. And again. And again. Delicious.

As for BF3, it was pretty fun, for the most part. Good to play with 19K and mercurius, too. The customized servers are great and running games with 200% or more tickets is good because it leaves room for turn-arounds and fighting chances all throughout the round. I found a server that kept rotating two maps I really like, Sienne Crossing and Operation Metro (I wasn't always crazy about it but I can't remember ever hating it outright). One of the games was 1000 tickets - crazy! I had some 40-10, 50-25 games here and there and they were like an hour apiece. Good teamwork, too. I haven't gone through the thread to see what I didn't like but some of my complaints still stand: the color scheme / animation style is hard for me to discern what's going on sometimes (that's why I miss the IRNV), some of the animations like jumping over stuff and reloading are ridiculously long and it's harder to short-cut them than in BFBC2, the time in-between switching rifle to pistol is noticeably long, and I can't find consistency in how many shots in what part of a person's body it takes to take 'em down. Finally, I only see who I kill and who kills me like 50% of the time; I'd rate that at at least 85% of the time in BFBC2. That just doesn't make much sense to me. At one point, I laid a pack of ammo down, brought out my bipod, and kept aiming into a doorway where I presume the enemy was spawning in on someone or a beacon because I kept firing, getting hit markers, and racking up kills. I don't know that I actually saw any of them, just the hit markers. Just doesn't seem right, I guess. That said, I was disappointed the next round when it didn't happen again, though. :)

Fun night fellas! We ran into a couple of really competent teams, and it was good to play with Shumway and Flip a bit.

Easily, the highlight of my night was on Harvest day. I was on a pretty good run and had exhaused all of my SMG ammo and most of my pistol ammo. I had six bullets total left for my pistol, and I knew I was in trouble, when a tank with fairly low "health" caught my eye in the trees just across the road from Alpha. I decided to try and finish it off with my repair tool for lack of a better idea, and when I was about 50 yards away, the driver got out and started repairing the tank. It was a super intense run over to the guy, the whole time thinking "please don't get back in", and I stab him and steal his now repaired tank while Shum watches on his spawn screen. EPIC.

I've been trying to get back in the habit of knifing dudes. I got in the habit of shooting everybody when I was trying to star weapons, and I forgot how fun it is to nab somebody's tags. I'm actually kind of bummed that the XM8 compact pushed the knife out of my top 3 as well, but I have to get about 500 tags to catch up to the MG3 and get it back on the list.

I find myself playing engineer more and more. I don't think I'll ever play it enough to change the icon from medic in my banner, but however big the gap between medic and engineer is, it's closing. I also have started gravitating to engineer maps when I load up the game. I used to default to Nelson Bay or White Pass, but these days I'm more likely to load up Port Valdez, Harvest Day or Panama Canal. On a few maps, like Atacama Desert, Laguna Presa, and Laguna Alta, I'll alternate between the two depending on the status of my mines and the tendancies of the other team.
