re: Battlefield Talk
I spent a little time on Sunday playing as a highly-aggressive Recon with a Shotgun on Rush to change things up and had a blast. I was tossing out motion mines left and right and got another mortar strike gold star, no sweat. With the shotgun people are running right past me and getting a blast to the face and if I die, no worries. Just lets me throw out a fresh motion mine and another mortar strike right away. It's a fun combination and I ended up getting several friend requests from people on both teams so I must have been doing something right.

I've played that way with that kit quite a bit while building up to get the VSS. It almost feels cheap to cruise into a bldg knowing more or less what's going on inside, but it's also very satisfying. I'm guessing it's the reason my Recon class has my highest K/D ratio.

Popped on last night to find CactusKind / Obi-Wan Jabroni playing! Nice to play a little bit with you, bro. After you left I wiped out two squads. The first all spawned on each other and I shotgunned each of them. Then I let a mortar strike fly and got a quadruple kill. So sweet!

Yeah, I'll be playing this for a while, since I've decided to try and plat it (I'm working thru everything that's already on my profile that I think would be reasonable to platinum, and I decided to tackle this next), I finished the single player trophies earlier this week, and now I'm doing the online ones. So if you guys are around, you'll probably be seeing me a lot more frequently. Sorry I couldn't stay longer after you popped on last night, babies are unpredictable that way

One of the toughest trophies is the 20 demolition kills. I suggest watching the how to effectively demolish buildings with c4 videos. I've played somewhere. North of 160 hours of MP and have maybe 8 or 9 though I haven't been actively going for them.

Thinking I might fire this up tonight.
Awesome to see Cactus was on and might be a regular for a bit. I've been scarce, but with good reason. Super busy.

I've been totally absent lately. Just chaos around here with family visiting and the new baby. I'm desperate for some Battlefield time this week.

Played with Spatula a bit last night. He's been playing a lot of rush lately. It's been a nice change of pace. Finished the night on a 41-17 round with a kill streak of 26 or so in the middle of the round. Definitely my best round ever.

Ogs, that round was insane! I earned the last ten kills on Mortar Strike Gold Star 4 on it!
I've been having tremendous fun on Rush lately even though it's wreaking havoc on my KDR. I've had a few games lately when people just don't seem all that interested in actually attacking the objectives so I end up leaping in, arming, setting a mortar strike, getting at least one shotgun kill on my way out, blasting another one or two as they disarm, and tossing out a motion mine to have the teammates who are at least somewhat near the area pick off who's lit up. Doesn't work all the time, tactic-wise, but it does work quite a bit.
I keep having moments when enemies are shooting me a hair before I shoot them, though I don't understand how they can unload a couple shots off a USAS before I get one blast off with my 870 combat shotgun. Is it me? Is it them? Is it the game? Tips?
One possibility is that I've forgotten how to shoot from the hip and aiming first is a hard habit to break. It was such a big piece of my earning platinum stars on the M-14, M1, and G3 and now I'm doing it with the shotguns out of habit. Still, I don't do it every time and still get beat to the trigger by that much in a face-to-face showdown.

In the little bit that I've been playing, I've found that I enjoy Rush more than Conquest, so that's what I've been playing most of. Was fun playing with you for a little bit last night Spatula, even if we were getting killed. It was actually going really well for our side in the last several games before you joined, not sure if there was a lot of changeover on the teams around that time or what happened.
I know you left to find a new game due to frustration with that last round, but it was about quitting time for me, didn't have it in me to start a new round, so I just played it out to its inevitable conclusion and went to bed.
I'm still not very good at these kinds of games, but I'm having a lot of fun. One round I got 2 5000 point awards in the same round. Anybody have any tips for me as far as killing but not getting killed? I need to get a killstreak of 5 with the MG3 SPECACT to finish off the Medic SPECACT Trophy, and while I'm not having a lot of trouble racking up a lot of kills with this gun, I am having trouble with not dying, lol.

Thanks, now I don't feel too guilty. Those guys were just toying with us and my KDR is already plummeting from legit play without teams like that messing with us. But yeah, the round before it went really well.
Engage from a distance, if you can. With the medic I think the tendency is for newer players to rush in and revive down squadmates before taking out whoever killed them first. If you remember to kill-then-revive, you're less likely to rush out into oncoming bullets. It may be worth finding a quiet little building to camp in and toss yourself a medic pack in case an enemy fires on you. There are plenty of maps (Oasis, Arica Harbor, White Pass) with little buildings here and there that are near major traffic areas so you can get kills but not necessarily have enemies bumping into you every few seconds. After you take someone out, look around to make sure you're in the clear and pick another hiding spot, preferably with a good view of where you just were and about five seconds after you kill someone. This way, if someone figures out where you were via the kill cam they don't get the drop on you and you can perhaps get the drop on them. I've read that sustained fire with the LMGs is supposed to increase accuracy but I've found burst fire is much more helpful, at least for me. With 200 rounds, don't reload unless you have to and when you do, watch for the rounds to reset because the weapon will be reloaded sooner than the animation is over. If it pops back to 200 and the animation is still reloading, quickly double-tap triangle to switch to your sidearm and back to the LMG. If you time it right, it's faster than the remaining animation. I find this especially important with reloading LMG and rocket launchers like the good ol' Uncle Carl.
Did anybody think a year ago that now I would be able to give out advice like this?!

I was on last night after my NCAA game w/ nic and I didn't see any of you diehards playing. I actually popped in BF3 to play for the first time since mid-Feb and then spent the time re-downloading Karkand and playing temple run on my phone instead.

Ugh. Yeah. One of these days I'm going to figure shit out. Lately I get in bed, turn on MLB Network and just fall asleep.
Also... I pimped myself over in the NCAA thread but I forgot to do it in here.
I told you guys about a story that would be published in the near future and everyone had to go vote for me and make me super special and all that... Well, it's time to vote for me and make me feel super special. Here's the link to the featured stories of the month:
http://www.bartlebysnopes.com/stories.htm
Click the link at the top right where it says vote for stories of the month. Vote "Teeter." Of course you can read it first if you like... I think it's pretty swell. Thanks, guys.

I think voting is probably based on IP address. I couldn't vote twice but I've only tried from home. I imagine that they've probably tried to limit ballot stuffing as much as possible. It's a pretty silly way to determine story of the month... if anyone has any kind of social media presence they're going to run away with the voting. But I'm not above ballot stuffing. Writing for lit journals and whatnot is such a frustrating process that I have no qualms about trying to use any advantage.

Agreed on the tough business of getting published in the lit mags. I would get occasional personalized notes from editors / readers in my MFA days but no dice. Then I got busy with other stuff and I haven't been on it like I used to. Tell you what, if Flip wins I'll dust off some old stuff, give it a polish, and submit here and there. Okay, another reason to Vote Flip.
