My TV crapped out tonight before I could get online for any shenanigans. Ordered a new bulb. Will be here Thursday.

re: Battlefield Talk

I know you're all excited for BFBC2 again, but in case anyone's interested, there's supposedly a big patch for BF3 coming out today for PS3.

Here's the complete list of fixes via Joystiq's website

The list is long but they do mention quite a few changes to the squad join interface as well many different weapon damage and range adjustments.

Edited to add: Downloading it now. I know size doesn't matter, but it's 758 MB! That's a BIG patch.

That won't just be the patch. It will be the Karkand Map pack as well. They did the same thing with the update for the Vietnam pack for BFBC2.

re: Battlefield Talk

It wasn't mentioned in the fix list, but I think IR scope for the machine guns has been modified in this patch. It's very fuzzy on well lit maps and you can't see anything at all in the distance. Kinda sucks because I had it on all my guns, but I guess it was a little unfair compared to other scopes. It almost seems useless now. Talk about going from one extreme to the next.

Also, I know the flashlights have been rumored to being dumbed down in the furure as well. Couldn't tell if that was included in this patch. Nobody seemed to have them equipped today. If they did, I wasn't ever distracted by them. Maybe they were fixed.

re: Battlefield Talk

IRNV is nerfed big time. Not. Happy.

And obviously, I'm not as good of a BF3 player as I thought I was because I used that sight to such an extreme. I hopped into a few maps just to try it out a bit and I got slaughtered. You can't see anyone. It's inconsistent, too. Won't work in Operation Metro. Won't work in the tunnel at Damavand Peak. Worked on Tehran Highway sometimes. I don't care if some people thought it was "cheating" to use a feature in the game. It's useless now and I have to learn a whole new way to play this game with everyone hiding in the shadows and now nothing to find them in the shadows with anymore.

Not. Happy.

re: Battlefield Talk

I'm in the same situation. I used the IRNV on ALL my weapons. And they pretty much made it completely useless. If they felt it was that unfair, they should have just removed it from the game. It's a handicap now because you literally can't see anything.

I used the SCAR a lot too, which they made less powerful. I just got double fucked. Don't understand that decision because it seems like SCAR has always been one of the best weapons for the engineer.

re: Battlefield Talk

I'm a NV whore too, but I think I mostly used it because I figured everybody else was and I didn't want them to have the advantage. If this forces everybody back to "normal" sights, I'd say that's a good thing overall. My one concern is that I don't see a lot of snipers in BF3, likely because of the NV. Bet they make a triumphant return.

I'm also OK with gimping the SCAR...seems like engineers with SCARs in this game are like medics with M60s in the last one...everywhere.

The developers heard your cry for it to be more like BFBC2!

re: Battlefield Talk

I got excited on Wednesday after installing the update / patch because the server browser listed the four Back to Karkand maps as filter options. Cool, but no maps showed up in the server list.

Anybody playing BF3 tonight?

Anybody playing BFBC2 tonight?

Anybody preparing a Warhawk game for the group soon?

re: Battlefield Talk

Chess, is there a way to calculate and implement the percentage of Ace Squad Ribbons to total Rounds Played and put it in the stats graphic? Even when we get rolled, like tonight a few times, we came up with the Ace Squad Ribbon and at 303 rounds played and 123 Ace Squad Ribbons, that's 40% or so of my games and that works for me.

re: Battlefield Talk

I haven't been writing new code...just borrowing code from others.

I might play a bit this morning...check out the changes to NV...thinking it might make the two tunnel maps slightly less of a slaughterhouse.

re: Battlefield Talk

From my experience the really good players weren't using the IRNV. The maps that were slaughterhouses are still very much so... now it's just MORE difficult for those of us that preferred the infrared. I'm fairly positive that my K/D ratio goes nowhere but down from here on.

re: Battlefield Talk

You know, it never occurred to me till now...can you imagine these freaking tiny maps with 64 players in them.

I think I'm going to wait for Karkland to play this game again. Right now, it doesn't give me that "I'll just pop it in and play a few hours" vibe. More accurately, I kind of dread playing it...not that I don't like it, just that I know there's about a 20% chance that I'll end up in a good game.

And back to the Ace Squad/game thing, I'm not really sure that measures anything except that you've found a group to play with. SPM is a much better measure of individual effectiveness IMO.

re: Battlefield Talk

I wish I could find the logic behind the "server balancing"... if it even exists in this game. Played a bit this morning. I was on a team that had 3 rank one players. Whatever. It happens. Every player on the other team was 35 or higher. On top of that lopsidedness, they had more players in every single match. I'm thinking people on my team must be quitting cuz we're sucking so bad. So after losing 5 rounds in a row I bring up the scoreboard as the round is starting, and the timer is counting down. To start things off, we were outnumbered 9 to 8. I'm thinking here we go again. Then a new player joins, and gets added to THE OTHER TEAM!!! Instead of 9 on 9 which is the ONLY thing that would make sense in that situation, they're up 10 to 8. After we had already just lost 5 in a row. Talk about WTF?!?!

It seems whenever I play this game I'm either on a team that wins every match or loses every match (occasionally there's a fluke match that breaks the streak but for the most part it's one team dominating). Honestly I can't ever recall a session where the matches went back and forth on a consistent basis which would indicate any semblance of balance.

I believe the maps on the PC are bigger to accommodate the 64 players. The developers made them smaller for consoles because they were "boring" with fewer players.

If a player jumps in to join a friend he's going to get added to the friend's squad. I'm not sure it has anything to do with "balancing."

re: Battlefield Talk

I'm hoping to be back on in the next few days. Since my father's passing I've decided to move back north to continue to help my mother adjust. The wife and my son are packing up the house (PS3) and moving it here this weekend. So between finding work and our on place to live I'm going to be busy but I need to have that release of stabbing bitches.

Would like to play an oldschool game on BFBC2 though. There just seems to be something missing from BF3.
