No worries about second option...was cluttered anyway. I broke it when I deleted the photo from the source file. On the second one, I integrated the photo into the background image...cleaner code and smaller file. Anyway, just stick with the original for now.

The site seems to be having problems this morning.

Added Octo.

Had the same experience the last time I played BC2...not as many players...tricky to find a game with enough people. But I also think the lighting is a good thing. I don't particularly enjoy any of the new lighting tricks in BF3 multiplayer...douchebags hiding in shadows and flashlights blinding me constantly.

I'm really hoping the Karkland pack adds some maps that are more my speed...seems to be the case.

I gave BFBC2 another go last week. Same experience here with literally nobody playing. 4 on 4 was the most people I could find. The first game I joined was Panama Canal. My team was already in control of all four of the objectives so I spawned at the home base. Wouldn't you know it, someone was camped there in a tank and killed me instantly. Seriously? It's only 4 on 4, your team has zero objectives, and your camping in the other teams base? I really don't miss that stupid shit at all... so glad they made the bases out of bounds in BF3.

Also, I decided to check my legacy stats via the link on the first page... just as I figured they're absolutely pathetic. I obviously didn't play BC2 as much as I did the others. It's also painfully apparent that I'm in the minority with my love for BF3. So anyways... I'm certainly willing to give BC2 another shot if that's what everyone would rather play. If anything I could definitely use some help in the stats department. I think I had only made it to rank 13 when I originally stopped playing it.

re: Battlefield Talk

Played BFBC2 again this morning for a few hours. Was 8 on 8 for most of it which was nice. Still having a bit of a hard time understanding why many on here think it's head & shoulders above BF3. For the most part everyone on my team was playing for himself. Nobody was talking. I never once got revived by a teammate in almost 3 hours of playing. I will say this, even playing virtually solo all morning, it's definitely easier to get a good score. The kills seem WAY easier to get now after spending so much time with BF3. There is pretty much zero recoil with the guns. Or at least with the Scar-H which is what I was using all morning. BIG difference with that gun in BF3, where it's all over the place. I did start to miss the thermal vision after awhile though. I was the victim of some bush wookies a few times, and even with the killcam I couldn't tell where the hell they were. And I've come to the conclusion that I definitely have not played that game enough because I was completely lost on some of the maps.

Don't get me wrong, I think BFBC2 is still great. They ALL are. I just don't get the hate for BF3, and why everyone thinks it was a huge step back.

Also, Chess, you mentioned before that you liked the dogtags so much better in BFBC2? Just curious why? Is it because it's easier to get them? I must have captured 7 or 8 of them this morning. All it shows is one little picture of a dogtag. Bronze, silver or gold. BF3 has two dogtags. And they both can be completely customized by the user. They're much bigger on the screen which makes them seem like more of a trophy to me. Plus, it shows that animation, which, while it sucks when it happens to you, you can take pleasure in knowing the last thing the other guy is seeing is you spinning him around and knifing him. When you get nabbed in BC2 all it says is "(name) Knife (name)" on the bottom of the screen. You wouldn't even know how you died unless you look for that. I think BF3 makes taking dogtags feel like a much bigger accomplishment. Just my 2 cents.

Dogtags in BFBC2 were a trophy, forever enshrined in your profile with your victim's handle. As far as I know, in BF3, there are no lasting rewards. There's no trophy to admire... just that fleeting momentary pleasure but no permanent record of conquest. At the end of every BFBC2 match, along with all your rewards, were the dogtags of those stabbed. At the end of BF3, there's no mention of dogtags at all... nor have a I seen any mention of the individual tags in BF stats.

In BF3, all the dogtags you've taken become visible in the "My Dog Tag" screen. You can't use it for yourself, but at least you can see what it looks like if it's something you haven't unlocked yet. It shows how many times you taken each type of tag, and the last victim you took it from. I understand that there's no complete list of ALL the names of ALL your victims, but how often do you really look at that? Especially if you play for a long time and have hundreds of dog tags? I only have 20 something in BC2, but even that short list of names means nothing to me. At least in BF3, I can see what some of the unique tags look like that I haven't already unlocked for myself. Plus, the cool graphics kind of hint at what type of player was wearing it (recon, air warfare, c4 specialist, pistol expert, etc). To me that seems more like a trophy than some list of random names.

Yup, I would say that's very easily possible. If you can get enough people on here that play at the same time. :)

I dunno. I admire my three BFBC2 Cruz tags on a daily basis.

re: Battlefield Talk

I've nabbed nearly 1300 dogtags in BFBC2 and I look at the list all the time, even though it won't ever display more than 1235. I look at it to see the people I've taken 4, 5, 6 tags from, especially if they're from here (hi, yaw!).

I agree with jpatri, I enjoy the trophy aspect of the dogtags in BFBC2 and the emphasis on how many you have and what level of player you get them from much more than the BF3 emphasis of what they look like. Plus, maybe this seems weird, but knowing there are tags I could never possibly own, like DICE developer tags, makes collecting them that much less appealing. Sure, Combat Elite Pins are hard to nab in BFBC2 but I could conceivably get 50 and earn the medal to go along with them. Some dogtags? Nope, I don't get to have them and it bugs me.

After two or three nights splitting time between BFBC2 and BF3, it feels like I don't really get angry while playing BFBC2 but I get frustrated more frequently in BF3, even angry sometimes. Maybe my memory is short and I used to get more mad than I remember in BFBC2, but the difference was clear this weekend.

Jeez, I thought you all liked to play on the same team.

I guess I should have figured as much since the game even gives you a trophy for knifing your friends.

That there are rare, individual tags out there that I can't have makes me want to have them as a trophy that much more. Now I don't get to nab them and admire them and brag about them. They are gone just as soon as they flash up on my screen. And that's dumb. When you make a game like this that emphasizes collection of attributes/gadgets/statistics... why eliminate individual dogtags from that collection? It was such a small but extremely fun part of BFBC2. Which is why I think some of us are less than happy about some of the changes made between the two games. BF3 took the BFBC2 online and stripped some fun, and replaced it with "gritty realism." Part of the appeal of BFBC2 was that it wasn't all that realistic it was a balance of humor and realism that just really worked for me.

While we do enjoy playing with each other, it is inevitable that when teams fill up, friends will end up on opposite teams. And then, well, om nom.

re: Battlefield Talk

I'll just say this about the whole dogtag thing...

In BC2, there's no difference between getting killed with a headshot or getting knifed. One second you're alive. The next you're dead. You have to look at the bottom of the screen to see how you died. It's "Oh, I got killed by a sniper", or "Oh, I got killed by a knife". No big deal.

In BF3, every time I'm the victim in that knifing animation, I'm always yelling "Fuck!" or some similar obscenity. It's still surprising when it happens. And I can't stand that smug look on the characters face when he spins me around, knowing the guy wielding the controller has that same look. I want nothing more than to hunt that guy down and knife him back.

If that ain't a reason to like it more in BF3, then I don't know what is. You guys can have your lists.

What do you mean they're gone? If you grab a rare one that you don't have, you can view it anytime you want in the "My Dog Tag" section. You just can't equip for yourself, which is only fair, because you didn't actually earn it the way the wearer did.

As far as that DICE developer dogtag goes, just a couple weekends ago there was a news ticker saying the developers would be playing online. There may have been an opportunity to grab one of those dogtags during that. And there probably will be again in the future with new maps and patches and whatever else. You can't be 100% certain it's something you'll never get. Just like Gearbox and Rockstar trophies for Borderlands and GTA IV. (I understand those were viral, but someone had to get it originally)

Apparently I can't seem to let this dogtag thing go. :p

Meh. Either way you're just dead. A lot of it seems like unnecessary animation. I rarely even pay attention. You always knew when you were stabbed versus when you were shot. I didn't need the extra animation to tell me so. There was no mistaking a dude walking up behind you and knifing you. It kind of goes back to that extra touch of gritty realism... I didn't really need it. But I'm glad it works for others. I just miss some of the relative simplicity of BFBC2. For me it all goes back to the flashlights. Whenever I get "blinded" by a flashlight in broad daylight I flip my shit. Someone said "let's add gritty realism" and then the next guy said "cool knife animations" and then some asshole said "tactical flashlights."

Like I've said, I like ALL the Battlefield games. I don't want to keep comparing them, and picking sides, and saying which ones better even though it seems that's what I'm doing. That's not my intention. I'm just just trying to find a good group of people that all like the same game (which apparently in this case is BC2 )

I'll definitely play whatever the group is playing. They're all good to me.

I almost never spawn in my home base in BC2...usually not for this reason but because the bases are generally too far from the action to make it worthwhile. Panama Canal is the only exception I can think of...maybe Oasis.

I actually have a theory here. I don't think BFBC2 had a particularly strong launch, and we all jumped in after all of the expansions and tweaks, so we never got to see it at its weakest with just a few maps. I'm guessing you played it a bit early and put it aside, because truly, level 13 happens very quickly in BC2...very quickly...like first night or two.

Yup...and fits with my theory above and captures some of my frustration. With an LMG in BF3, I literally can't hit somebody in the distance, even when I feel like I'm aiming perfectly. Very frustrating.

Also understand that we played the shit out of BC2...at least 3-5 of us on every night...so while both games are good, BC2 captured the imagination of the Warhawk crew (mostly a lighthearted casual bunch) in a way that BF3 hasn't come close to yet. I'm not imagining a difference here...folks just aren't on as much, and there has to be something to that.

The trick with wookies is to ignore them until you have the objectives in hand...and you will because they are a detriment to their team...then you go wookie stabbin', which is a fucking riot and part of the reason I like dogtags so much...

Also, Chess, you mentioned before that you liked the dogtags so much better in BFBC2? Just curious why?
These guys (flip most succinctly) have captured my feelings on dogtags very well, and I'm not quite the stats monkey or completionist that spatula is, but I love seeing them at the end of the round with the names on them. Some dude might have driven me crazy the whole round, but if I got his tags, it was all good. So yeah, tags are still there, just not integrated in a way I like...and ultimately in a way that looks suspiciously like it's intended to sell you dogtags at some point. -rolleyes-

This is my feeling exactly. I get angry while playing BF3, particularly during those 3-4 small maps that don't even feel like battlefield to me, but I consistently had/have fun in BFBC2...even though it's harder to find a good server now.

 My eyes are watering here...and love you too bro. :whofart:

I remember one round of Heavy Metal with Diecast trying so damn hard to get my tags (because I had his), and I spent the whole round rocking the Carl Gustav...just blowing his ass up while he was trying to bum-rush me and laughing harder every time I did it.

I also remember distinctly when I got Vong's. It was on Atacama, and he tried to shoot me with a rocket launcher as I ran toward him but it went right by my head and I just kept running at him...stabbed him in the face right before he got his pistol out.

I also remember Cruz getting mine. I had him dead to rights but swung the knife just a split second too soon (premature knification) and I whiffed...YOINK...fucker got my tags. :grumble:

Or as I mentioned above, there'd be that sniper that bugs you the whole round, and you have that little epiphany where he is, and it's so satisfying when you go around him and stick a knife in his grape.

Tags just don't have the same charm now. :(

I did plenty of running around like a fool in those first weeks of BFBC2 doing Rambo Revives as a medic, getting shot down in the process time and time again. My KDR was awful. Worked hard to get it up to 65% before BF3 came along, which feels respectable considering my earlier days. I think my BF3 KDR is the main way I know I'm a better BF3 player even if I find BFBC2 a little more fun. And, as for that opinion I used to have that KDR is a meaningless stat, well... I don't think that anymore. *hee-hee!* :D
