THE DARKNESS II announced

The Darkness II Unveiled
Dark Sector dev behind comic sequel.

The Darkness II has been announced by 2K Games, with Dark Sector dev Digital Extremes revealed as the force behind the sequel to 2007's well-received comic book shooter.

The Darkness II will continue the story of Jackie Estacado in a story that's going to stay close to its comic book origins, and it'll likewise retain some of the more original aspects of the first game. Set two years after the original, The Darkness II will see poor Jackie struggling to keep the lid on his superpower as he finds himself in the middle of a full-scale mob war, and it will see a return of the supernatural gunplay of The Darkness.

The Darkness's co-creator and founder of comic book outfit Top Cow Productions was on hand to illuminate an otherwise sparse press release. "Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath," enthused Marc Silvestri, "So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II. Yeah, call me biased, but this second installment of Jackie Estacado's epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I've ever played."

Back in 2007 The Darkness bagged a respectable 7.7 so here's hoping its sequel can build on those foundations. Its slated for a 2011 release, and expect a lot more on The Darkness II in the very near future on IGN.

Re: THE DARKNESS II announced

that 7.7 review ign gave the first game was about right... like PopcornTreeCt said it was a guilty pleasure...but as far as I know Digital Extremes is more known for doing MP (Unreal) or transferring existing games to other systems...so lets hope they don't plan on coming out with a 4 hour single player game and focus on the MP...

I loved the first game. Using Mike Patton as the voice of the Darkness was an inspired idea. Looking forward to this one.

Re: THE DARKNESS II announced

Good news. I enjoyed playing the first one, and consider it to be one of this generation's sleeper hits.

I hope they scrap the multiplayer portion though.

Mike Patton Returns to The Darkness
Famed singer returns for upcoming sequel.

Faith No More front man Mike Patton will be reprising his role as the voice of The Darkness for the upcoming sequel, publisher 2K said today.

"It feels really good to be the bad guy, and The Darkness is as bad as it gets," said Patton. "I've read through the script and Jackie is going to be a brutally tortured soul. I'm looking forward to making his life a living hell."

2K also said The Darkness II will be shown for the first time to press at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco early next month.

The Darkness II is scheduled to ship in Fall 2011.

Re: THE DARKNESS II announced

Just saw this thread for the first time and I have to admit I am surprised a sequel is coming. I picked the original title up a long time ago for $10.00 and enjoyed the gameplay. Just surprised it did well enough to justify a sequel.

Re: THE DARKNESS II announced

Don't have a problem with this, It's for the better. With GEARS 3, RAGE, BATTLEFIELD 3 & MW3, it's gonna be too fuckin' crowded.

I had forgotten it was supposed to release this year anyway.

No problem with the delay here either.

Re: THE DARKNESS II announced

I kinda liked the demo - didn't blow my doors down or anything, but still pretty solid. I appreciated it's cel-shaded graphic style to give it that slight comic-book look and so it won't look like every other FPS on the market.
