I thought the Kinect "poll" thread has kinda run its course and we need a dedicated thread for announcements, questions, opinions, and clips of naked women doing Kinect.

Fired up my Kinect just yesterday and have to say I am mighty impressed. Spent some time with Kinect Sports last night and definitely feel it is a must buy. Lots of fun and surprisingly accurate.

I fired up Uno late last night because I was curious if the Kinect would work as your camera on that and I could dump my old one. Appears they will have to do an update because the Kinect will not work with Uno. I was surprised. Anyone know if games like Uno plan to do updates to use the Kinect camera?

Giggity!

Spoiler:

I'm a fan so far, I've had mine since around launch and don't regret it. It does, however, need more software. Where's You Don't Know Jack dammit.

So my mom calls from Gamestop looking for advice for my cousins (Wii) and brothers (360). She asks what I recommend for my brothers and, as usual, I just say points cards because I don't want to point to a specific game or whatever. She's kinda bummed by that so I suggest a Kinect for each of them. I check Amazon and they're (currently) in stock and offer to order 2 for her on my Prime and just bring them with me for the family gathering. She says, "Hang on, let me go back in there and ask."

So she goes back into GS and calls me a few minutes later.

"I'm not sure if this is a good deal, but they're offering a Kinect and two games for $250."

"Does that come with a 360 or is it just a makeshift bundle?"

"No, it doesn't come with the 360."

"So they're basically saying 'If you want a Kinect, you have to buy two more games' and forcing them on you? You can't buy it separately?"

"Right."

"Ok, I just ordered two on Amazon. Flip them off and knock a display case over as you leave. Love you."

How much did they give you for Joyride?

depends on where you mean Gamestop offered $17.

That. would. be. AWESOME.

Are they so hard to find that stores are requiring bundles? I ordered mine online, ship to store at Best Buy, but while sometimes they were out of stock, they came back in stock every couple days.

Definitely more software. We have Sports, Adventures, Dance Central, and Your Shape. I've heard Joyride sucks, and Sonic Free Ride doesn't seem that great from the demo. Those first four games are cool, but they need to expand beyond exercise and sports stuff. Not sure where they will go though, but that's why I buy games, not make them.
Someone suggested a Time Crisis type game which would be cool if it worked.

There is no forced bundle like that at Gamestop, we never can or will do that for any items. Either that store is poorly run (likely) or your wife didn't understand (also likely).

Ridiculous. The fact that they would give you anything less than MSRP on a factory-sealed game you haven't taken out of their store is nonsense.

I think I see what you did there.

...According to GameStop's launch center for the motion-sensing system, the revival of the smart-alecky quiz game You Don't Know Jack will support the Xbox 360's new peripheral. ...

However, the game is being listed with a $40 price point by GameStop. The retailer also has it as shipping on January 25, 2011, putting it outside the launch window for Kinect, which goes on sale November 4 in the US and November 10 in the UK.
Waiting to see how its implemented (it'll be optional I'm sure).

Wasn't my wife, it was my mom.

She didn't not understand because we were on the phone together asking the clerk my questions and I, through the wonders of modern telephone technology, could hear his responses.

This particular GS was forcing a bundle with no discount as I described above. Their loss as she was ready to buy two and I simply ordered them from Amazon. They'll be delivered tomorrow with plenty of time to spare.

Agreed. Which is why I walked out with it.

Yeah, I was at GS tonight and saw the ad with the Kinect bundle. I had to triple check the ad to verify that they weren't kidding.

Seems Dance Central is nearing that 1m mark, pretty impressive.

Kinect appears to be extremely close to that 5m number they expected to hit.

What exiting Kinect games are in the pipeline? Except for some integration in Forza 4, I haven't heard about anything.

Not much, it's a pretty blank slate for the time being. Thankfully Sports and Dance Central are a complete blast still.

But then some thought has to go into the games I suppose -- unlike the Move and Wii-mote, the Kinect isn't something that really integrates well into pre-existing gameplay styles (I still don't see using a motion remote for FPS as being an improvement) just an all around different way to play games. I'm hoping somebody comes up with some good puzzle games for it.

I am, however, curious to see how Child of Eden turns out (should work the same on Kinect and Move).

The wikipedia list of upcoming titles, I'm sure there are a few others but eh:
Brunswick Pro Bowling
Child of Eden (Rez guys)
Codename D (SUDA51)
Dance Central 2
Dance on Broadway
Fantastic Pets
Forza 4
Grand Slam Tennis 11
Haunt
Kinect Star Wars
Michael Jackson: The Experience (lmao)
Michael Phelps: Push Limit (wtf?)
Project Draco (Panzer Dragoon?)
Rise of Nightmares (Sega)
Spongbob
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor
UFC Trainer
Yoostar2
You Don't Know Jack

I'm still super-ambivalent about Kinect. Of course I'll have a better idea after we open the present under the tree. For now we're getting Kinectimals and Dance Central. Glad to hear you like Kincet Sports, but since I already have Wii Sports and Sports Champions for Move, not sure I need another sports minigame collection right now. Might get it used if I can find it cheap on ebay or something.

That Killzone video does nothing for me, aside from my lukewarmness toward the series to begin with, I just don't see aiming with a motion controlled reticle as improving on gamepad or kb+m gameplay. There's a certain amount of novelty to it, but once thats out of the way I don't see myself using it too much.

It's similar to how Heavy Rain was novel with the Move, it really didn't enhance the game at all though it didn't hurt it really either, it was just different.

For me motion gaming is best kept casual, and maybe menu navigation if they ever get it reading fingers.
