Re: Homefront...March 2011
So, as far as reviews from well-known sites go, we have a 7 out of 10 from both IGN and Game Informer. I'm curious to see where Giant Bomb will come down on this one.
I was interested in this game, and I might still get it through the Kmart deal, but...it's seeming less and less appealing as the day goes on. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
And now a 2.5/5 review from Joystiq (Justin McElroy):

Re: Homefront...March 2011
Wow theyre not kidding. Rented it for $1 from redbox this morning and already done with it lol. Was worth a dollar, if i paid 60 (even with the amazon credit) id be pissed.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
Upon completion, I'd say a 4/10 maybe. I was hoping the story would save it, but there is NO story. Bring fuel to Army, game over. Not even a follow up cinematic or anything. What a waste of time.

The level designers certainly love their invisible walls.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
It's "The Dome The Video Game"
The reviews have convinced me not to open this and return it to Kmart. Too bad because I was really hoping this would turn out. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
So far I have found the story a little chilling. Neat setup, the headlines on the newspapers are intriguing etc. Things like attributing part of Japan's surrender to Korea involving an accident in Japan that causes one of their nuclear power plants to have a meltdown. Things that I find more chilling in the current environment than I would have a year ago.
That being said, the reviews that say it plays a little like a shooter from the early 00s is spot on. I have not tried the multiplayer yet. I also want the invisible walls that surround all furniture - they are like 2 feet out from the furniture. I want that to keep my animals away from my kitchen counters. I also like the back yard with an invisible wall guarding the hot tub. Like 5-10 feet of the yard are inaccessible because who would want to go search behind the tub for a collectible? |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
That's the thing - the game's plot and concept sound great, but if they are carefully wrapped in a thick layer of crappy gameplay, I'll pass.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I've read three of the review on the list and all pretty much said the same thing....
Great Story and well thought of but... A typical FPS with "tried & done all ready" segments through-out the game. Nothing new except the "remote battle drones" Glitches and bugs oh my Controls like running or what one said...like shuffling your feet fast. The terms ...."lack of polish and craftmanship" was mentioned Your "A-I" teamates are totally useless in battles...one said he could count on one hand the number killed by the A-I. Scripted battles in close areas with little freeplay. Short single player campaign...about 5hrs. Only positive I've read is the MP part |

Re: Homefront...March 2011
Warning for those planning to rent or buy a used copy. The multiplayer is limited without an online code. The code is included in retail copies or you can buy it online.
Take your Homefront multiplayer experience to the next level! Continue earning XP past level 5 – Reach the maximum rank and gain access to new weapons, game modes, and vehicles in the Armory. IMPORTANT: A Battle Code is included with every new copy of Homefront, so please check inside your game box for a valid code before purchasing. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
If you don't have the code it is 800 points to buy it.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
Well, I just finished it. And for the first time, I agree with the people that say it's a 5 hours game. IMO this was much shorter than Black Ops or MOH. And about 1/3 of the game is following an AI character from one location to another while he explains the plot. Actually gameplay (shooting stuff) is probably around 3 hours.
While the gameplay is a big improvement over Frontlines, it doesn't live up to current FPS games like Battlefield or COD. It feels like they came up with an interesting story, put together some cool cinematics and set pieces, and thought that was enough to make a good game. Enemy AI is pretty stupid. Half stand there waiting to be shot. The other half will duck behind cover and you just wait for them to pop their head up. Plus, it only takes 3 bullets to kill them. And it doesn't matter where you hit them, so you can shoot the ankle 3 times and they're dead. And then there's the friendly AI. They don't do much but yell instructions. Sometimes they'll stand around blocking a doorway that you need to enter. Other times they'll push you out of the way so they can go through the door first. I just wanted to shoot them. Actually, when they're standing around blocking your line of sight, you can shoot through the friendlies to kill the enemies. If you're just interested in the single player, this is a rental at best. Or wait for it to hit $10. I'd be surprised if this isn't in the bargain bin within a few months. |

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I forgot the other thing that annoyed me. You can't shoot through anything. We're fighting inside a store, the enemies are hiding behind a glass display case, and I can't shoot them through the glass. If there's a dozen guys blasting you with machine guns, just duck behind a piece of plywood.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I thought that this game would not do well in comparison to CoD and Battlefield, which was why I stayed away but I am curious to hear what you guys think of the multiplayer. Anyone have an opinion after playing it?
|
Re: Homefront...March 2011
The multiplayer is Bad Company 2 with fewer vehicles, more lag, and the irritating code that requires you to buy it new if you want to level up past level 5 (of 50 levels fwiw). It very much has an unpolished feel. After playing the single player for like 3 hours and about an hour of the multiplayer I listed it online and sold it immediately. Going to try to beat the last of the singleplayer tonight and then pack it up and ship it off.
I would absolutely not recommend the title at full price and even at 40$... not sure I would recommend it then either. The multiplayer does not salvage the game. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
Those that are playing it...thoughts on difficulty?
The highest difficulty, Guerrilla I think, how would it compare to the hardest on these games??? Call of Duty 2 (HARD) Modern Warfare 2 (medium) Medal Of Honor (easy) |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
I am feeling good about not buying this game. I moved my pre-order to Crysis 2 instead. Hopefully that game turns out :)
