Re: Homefront...March 2011
I beat it twice during my rental period: once on guerilla and once on easy for the Iron Man achievements. It's a really generic and mediocre game in terms of single player, and I noticed a lot of glitches/issues (moreso on guerilla.)
The multiplayer is pretty good though. I experienced two freezes when I tried to join a match, as it would get to the 'searching for optimal servers' message, then freeze. It locked up two times in a row there. I'm planning to do a review this week...hopefully tomorrow. I don't recommend buying it though - at least not as a blind-buy. |

Saw where the game passed 1 million sales....from Gamespot
Homefront sales top 1 million, shipments over 2.4 million Last week, Homefront's less-than-stellar review average helped cause publisher THQ's stock to lose 21 percent of its value in a single day. On Metacritic, which is owned by GameSpot parent company CBS Interactive, the game is averaging 70 out of a possible 100, with GameSpot giving the title 7.0 out of a possible 10. To quell investor concern, THQ subsequently announced that day-one sales for the game amounted to 375,000 units in North America alone. With the game having now been available in many major markets for a full week, THQ has offered another update on Homefront's closely watched commercial performance. Today, the publisher announced that Homefront has already sold through over 1 million units worldwide. As of this week, the near-future shooter also boasted shipments of 2.4 million units globally |

Why would reviews have anything to do with the stock prices? It's not all about sales?

Of course, bad reviews = lower sales so company stock is going to take a hit if a game is not selling well and bringing in the money the company anticipated. Lower revenue means lower dividends for the investors in the end.
If this was a movie studio, would the investors really care how poorly a Twilight movie or another live-action/cgi cartoon adaption is reviewed when the box office is great? Maybe bad reviews affect video games more, but in the music genre's heyday, did Guitar Hero's investors really care that Rock Band was better reviewed? |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
I want to know how they were able to generate so much hype for this (which is what I'm assuming was responsible for the high number of pre-orders)? And then how a vastly superior game like Crysis 2 only got a fraction of the same hype and lower initial sales (though I'm sure word of mouth will have inverse effect for both games)?

Re: Homefront...March 2011
Well I have a friend here at work who decided to take a chance on "Homefront" based on what the guy at Gamestop said. (raved and liked it allot). Now my friend plays mostly FPS games and especially War Shooters like the COD and MOH.
This morning I ran into him and he said, "I got Homefront Friday". I said well...." He replied...It's bad, it s#@ks...should be in the $20.00 bin". He said it makes the latest MOH game look like the GOTY. He listed at least a dozen things wrong with the game and said the best thing...the opening storyline. I told him I have no idea why all of of sudden the some of the critic reviews and advertising was highligting Homefront as if it came out yesterday yet user reviews continue to put the game down. It was buggy and bad in his words. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
man, he sounds like a potty mouth.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I keep waiting tom read that this has dropped to $20... Even then I'm not sure I'd pick it up!
|
Re: Homefront...March 2011
I have no plans on MP...though I do want to do the SP...this sounds like the kind of game that will be 4-5 hours (and actually be 4-5 not longer than reviews had you think).....I will wait till black Friday when it will prob be 9.99

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I see ads for this every day on TV. What's with the huge sales campaign for this campaign when people say it's not even that good. In the ad they try to make it sound better than COD.

If this game is getting a bigger campaign than others like it, I don't know why. Maybe it had a high budget and they're trying to recoup that. Maybe they're trying to create a new franchise and feel that this needs a bigger push than a sequel. |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
I can think of several games but the latest "Kane & Lynch" comes to mind on all the pre-release hype it had followed by the pits reviews after release.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I picked this up at K-Mart for $20. Good story, decent play. Not enough checkpoints. Already on chapter 4 and it took 3 hours. I'll probably trade this in when I am done.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I finally picked this up...I am on chapter 4...Guerrilla difficulty...
After having just finished Vet on MW3 and Batt 3 Hard...a few thoughts... It is a tad harder than MW3/B3 but not by much...and death comes usually from something cheap. I have not experienced grenade spamming like this since WOW ...but it is comical...you don't get as many thrown at you as you did in World at War...it just feels cheaper....you can be in a place that it would be physically impossible to get a grenade to you...inside a shed with only one way in...and that way is opposite of the enemies...and suddenly 3 or 4 grenade indicators will pop up with grenades in the shed with you and no ability to throw them away... Also the infinitely spawning enemies is bad...Inside Tigerdirect I got into one position and while aiming down my sights I kept seeing enemies magically appear...I emptied my clip before I had to restart a checkpoint... Combat does not "feel" good compared to Battlefield 3 and MW3..sound is weak...your weapons don't have weight...and hit detection feels like a game that is 3 or 4 years old... I have started it so I will finish it, but the sp is one of the worst I have played in a shooter in a long time...half way in I would give it a 5 out of 10....maybe the second half will be better... |
Re: Homefront...March 2011
Finished it...maybe 4.5 hours long on the hardest setting..and of that...a good hour was talking and slow walking...
Single Player was just garbage...I would give it a 3 out of 10...maybe the worst game I have played this generation... I played one round of MP..and it was sort of fun..I could see enjoying it, but I have to many other MP games to mess with it.. Not worth 1 dollar.... |

This really drove me nuts. About 20% of the game is just walking to the next gunfight while the NPCs explain the storyline. There are stretches of 5-10 minutes where you're just following somebody as they walk around.

Re: Homefront...March 2011
I really enjoyed liberating the White Castle and the Tigerdirect.com Superstore, where everything inside explodes for no real reason.
