For me, Just Cause 2, just 'cause I put more hours into that than any other game this year - over 50. A very lean, balls-to-the-wall, enjoyable 50 hours that didn't waste my time with having to scan planets or forcing me to ride a slow-ass horse everywhere.

Best Music Game: Rock Band 3

Best DLC Game: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Best Racing Game: Gran Turismo 5

Biggest Disappointment: Gran Turismo 5 (I like the game, but it feels unfinished and still needs a lot of tweaking - even after a 5 year development cycle).

Here are the console games I bought this year that I truly enjoyed:

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Mass Effect 2
Red Dead Redemption
Rock Band 3

In terms of which game delivered the most overall satisfaction, I gotta go with Red Dead Redemption, by far. RB3 is a great game and a quantum step ahead, but it's not perfect (wonky at moments, "All Instrument Mode", DLC). ACB is worth the price of admission as continuation of AC2 but with enough new features and gameplay to keep it fresh and exciting, but the game gets rushed and sloppy towards the end, and the ending is not as interesting or satisfying as the end of AC2. ME2 is a fantastic sequel that improves upon the original considerably (although the storyline isn't quite as compelling), and is probably runner-up.

But RDR provided that great mix of gameplay, environment, DLC, multiplayer, and perhaps most importantly storytelling. I really cared about the characters enough to not even bother skipping the cut scenes (quality voice-acting from the cast throughout). Aside from all of that, the damn game was so much FUN. The game represents the whole package of what I'm looking for when I fire up the console. Besides the love that dare not speak its name.

I have no bias towards sports games, but these two games were just so rediculously well done (although not perfect), that they hold the top spots for me this year.

Those were the only two sports games I didn't play this year. Couldn't pick a Best Sports Game between NCAA, Madden and Tiger Woods though... they were all so ho-hum.

Changing my vote to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. For some reason I was thinking it came out in 2009, but apparently it was released in March.

The multiplayer in that game is jawdroppingly good.
