No way to play without steam. At least, no way we can discuss on the forums...

It's pretty much what I expected. I can't think of a way that they'd do it differently on this engine to make the battles any more epic, other than pumping up the HP of the dragons (which could then be countered in a number of ways already provided by the game). You could always change the difficulty to its hardest setting to achieve the same effect, but the only result of that is an extended hack-and-heal experience.

And i read on Gamefags forums people turning off auto-update for Skyrim and still forces the patch

Looks like i'll be playing offline till the new patch gets released.

He's probably wandering around outside somewhere, or possibly in the inn. Depends on the time of day. If a person's door is locked, it usually means that they're either not home (day) or sleeping (night).

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I had something weird happen with that. I was talking to someone in his shop - it was a quest conversation - and apparently it turned 'nighttime' while I was talking to him. In the middle of the conversation he and his wife started yelling at me "You aren't supposed to be here! Get out now before I call the guards!" and getting pretty irate about it. Fine, fine, I guess our conversation is over.

I have been invited to do what I think is the Thieves' Guild quest line. The problem is, I don't really want to. From what I have seen so far
Spoiler:
they're not thieves, they're protectionists. I couldn't make myself break the poor guy's urn.
In most games I really don't care if I'm good or bad, unless it locks off storylines/quests - but I generally don't 'want' to be bad so far. Although I did whack that rich elitist who was going to the wedding. He pissed me off.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Wow, the new patch completely broke the game for me. My character dies almost instantly with a 1000+ Armor Class. The worst part is the frame rate. It drops to below 10 fps when I encounter 3 or 4 enemies in a dungeon, usually causing the game to lock.

The game was nearly flawless pre-patch uninstalled on my 360...no bugs and 1 lock in over 50 hours of gameplay

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I just hit level 50 and 130 hours of gameplay. Haven't even started Dark Brotherhood or the civil war storyline, and I still have most of the main quest and the Companions to go.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Finished the Black Star Daedric quest! Finally was able to kill Malyn Varen. Picked up a couple of more levels, used potions much more..and basically my Flame Anuroach tanked while I threw in some shots.

Now working on the Mace of Malog Bal

A few questions...

Does the black let you capture human souls?

Once attached to a weapon can you detach it and use on another?

Also Ebony the strongest class of sword?

1) yes human, and I believe humanoid as well. And some rumors that you can even fill it with animals

2)The star doesn't attach to a weapon I don't believe..it is basically a infinite soul gem filled with Black Souls.

3)I am not sure

-Yes

-The soul will get used but the gem will stay available. It's refillable

-Deadric has it beat by 1 or 2 points for the sword I believe

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

The reward you get from the daedric quest for Boethiah is pretty cool too.

Black soul gems can capture human and elf souls, and I assume Argonian and Khajiit as well though I don't know for certain. I haven't done any soul-trapping in this game because I've found enough filled soul gems to keep my weapons enchanted. I ended up with the regular Azura's Star because I wanted the cool companion that you can get for doing so, but now many hours later I wish I had gotten the black star.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I unplugged the internet from my Xbox before the update thankfully.

I was going to go looking for the Azura's Star nex because it was my favorite daedric item from Oblivion. Do you have to make a choice between it and the "black star"? What exactly is the black star and why is it better?

You don't have to do that. Just refuse the update. You'll be signed out from Live while you play. I keep waiting for a fixed update so I don't have to sign out, but until then it's not a big deal.

Black star is 'basically' disconnected from Azura, and a different beast all together. Black star can take human souls to fill it..easier to fill than the Azura star which needs Hard monsters to fill it

Yes, you have to make a choice. As mentioned above, the black star (and black soul gems in general) can be filled with human/elf souls, which provide more powerful enchantments than the animal/monster souls that are used to fill regular soul gems.
