Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
No, it's too gimmicky for me. It seems like a better fit for little kids.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I have exactly six feet of clearance in front of my TV and there's no chance of making any more. Is it even worth buying?
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I say, no.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I am not interested. The motion control fad will be over soon (I hope), so unless there is some killer app (unlikely) for Kinect and under $100, I would never consider buying one.

Then again, it is Harmonix and seeing as I'm a fanboy of theirs (Frequency, Amplitude, Guitar Hero 1/2, Rock Band) I applaude their potential success with it. Also the first game of theirs I have no interest in playing  Also, the distance thing is going to be a problem with anything camera based. You can't expect to have your full body in view of the camera while standing 3 ft away from it. It's an issue on the Move and Kinect, but common sense kind of suggests that anyway. Wonder if you can put it at a higher angle. |

However, we've got the Xbox hooked up to a projector. Is that an issue because of 1) the room being dark and 2) running the wire to the Xbox?

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I played my Kinect last night with very little light in the room. It worked fine. The only issue playing it in the dark is the pics it takes of you during your gameplay don't come out good.

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
We spent the last evening at a friends house who spent entirely too much money on this garbage.
Two gaming-savvy couples in their late 20s/early 30s, and three kids ranging from 5-8 and everybody thought it was lame. Even the super Xbox fanboy who waited in line for it. The women jabbered about how it made the entertainment system look ugly. Good job Microsoft? Nope. |

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I don't know. My wife LOVES her Wii. By gaming-savvy, I don't mean to imply hard-core gamers. We just aren't novices either.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I picked this up and the wife and I love it! I'm also a pretty heavy gamer so I don't see why you are obligated to hate Kinect if you also play Fallout and COD.
It's very responsive and ran very smooth. We played for hours last night (Adventures, Kinect Sports, Dance Central) and had a ball all night. We have a projector and it works well in no light but we kept the lights on so we could see the pictures. There really is a sense of wonder when messing with this. Money well spent. |
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I saw a news article that the early sales had been good. I noticed Amazon is currently sold out. I wonder how many they got in.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
Does the Kinect NEED to be above or below your TV and directly centered, or can you get away with putting it somewhere else?
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I think as long as you're ok with not looking directly ahead, it can be somewhere else. You have to be centered in the camera. If you aren't also centered with the display, it'll be awkward for you - not Kinect.

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
So is this a camera or a wii type of motion thing? Either way, I'll pass. I'm heterosexual.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
C'mon, motion is half the battle even for us heteros. And a camera can't hurt either.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
Well, I jumped off the fence and picked this up. Wife and kids really wanted it. I got Dance Central, Sonic, and Your Shape Fitness Evolved. Played for about 3 hours last night. We had fun with all the games. I have a front projector system with a larger play area. Plenty of room for 2 people. You really need a space about 8 feet wide for two people to play. But not more than that. Anymore and you are out of the view of the camera. The device works pretty good. Some lag but for the type of games you can play its not an issue. Highly recommended for family fun. Better than Wii IMO.

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
Well I was far more impressed tonight when I checked it out at Best buy. It worked very smooth and pretty accurate. I didnt notice any lag. Probably would of bought one tonight but they were sold out.

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
So I broke down and bought one tonight. Between the Target B2G1 deal and 5% off with the Target card nearly negating tax and my daughters hounding me since E3, I didn't mind.
Let me tell you something, an hour of just watching them play Adventures and taking pictures and videos and hearing all the squeals and laughs and fun, I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth. It's a neat thing and it seems to be working well. Haven't even opened Dance Central or Kinectimals yet. I also haven't played yet, but I'm not too proud or embarrassed. Haters gonna hate, but it's damn fun just to watch. Now to find some schmo on Video Kinect for a little Chatroulette... Spoiler:

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
No. I hate motion controlled games.
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
For people who got this, are you having trouble syncing your physical controller at all? I am.

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I'd rather use a controller. Call me old school.

Have you had any issues with your handheld controller? |

No my 360 controller. When I left the Kinect menu and had to use my real controller it couldn't connect (or it did, but then it it stalled out, wouldn't sync and then after a few minutes of mesing around it finally connected again). In fact, when I was setting everything up, the controller wouldn't connect and I had to reset the whole system.

Off-white? or Eggshell?

Maybe it's the camera...? |
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
Also - the naked part makes me ask a question. Do these photos get stored on your HD on the Xbox, or is there some public API like the achievements ones where anyone can intercept them?
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
As far as I know it's all local until you upload them. Then they go to www.kinectshare.com but that's still protected by your Live ID. It seems no one can see them unless you take a further action from there to download them or post them to Facebook.
There is no direct game->Facebook/Public Internet. At least not from Adventures. |

Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I played for 30-40 minutes after the kids went to bed and, yeah, I worked up a bit of a sweat at the end. It was funny to see my avatar bent over at the waist, hands on knees, and panting
|
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
I set it up tonight. The only problem I had was the ID thing where my couch was in the way. Other than that, I love it.
I only played Kinectimals but it was a fun little game. I am sure my wife will get a kick out of it. The setup was quick and painless, I don't see how some people are complaining. In fact, I was able to set it up without moving my table or recliner, so yeah. |
Re: Kinect: Are you buying one?
Well, now none of my controllers will even connect to it. Must be a problem with my Xbox. Dammit. Time to call support.
