Be sure to tell them that I'd probably wait for it to hit the clearance bin, or buy it used.

I'm in, but they better not fuck it up like EA did Wing Commander's revival on XBLA.

No. There's no room for qualifiers.

I'm in. Period. We're all just in.

They might be listening.

No way, dude, I've been burnt on this before. If they want money and support and a franchise revival, they better not fuck it up.

Sadly, if they did upgrade it most of the new ships would look like this:

I miss space sims in general. X-Wing was awesome. I also loved Wing Commander III and IV and Freespace 2. Sigh, those were the days...

I used to play a ton of X-Wing, usually playing the same damn mission where you have to escort some freighters. I would fire tons of torpedoes just to see them fly around as they kept their target locks.

And I liked how the music would loop constantly; not sure if it was the same for the CD as I had the five floppy version.

The PC is best... but I really believe that mapping most of the controls to the controller wouldn't be impossible. You could push squad commands with the directional pad, HUD maps with select, combinations with L2 or R2 certainly couldn't be any more difficult than remembering keyboard shortcuts. It might not be 100% faithful but I'm certainly not going to complain if they do a competent job. Console deficiencies be damned; I'd much rather play a flight sim on my 60" TV from the comfort of my couch. This is why I stopped gaming (anything other than Civilization anyway) on the PC in the first place. That and I stopped being computer savvy about the time I went to college.

Voice commands could be used for certain things if the game could accurately recognize them.

I wonder if one reason why we don't get many space flight games these days is because they don't make for great demo material and screenshots. Without intricately detailed terrain, they don't seem as graphically impressive. They can't show off great textures and HDR lighting to the extent that they can with a ground-based game.

"Trench Run" ruins this argument. As would any assault on a Star Destroyer. For Star Wars, that is. Everything else you're probably right. And the lack of adequate controls for complicated sims. Everything would be arcadey.

All you need is a nice big Death Star explosion to send fans all aflutter. The teaser could just be a distant shot of the Death Star for a few solid uninterrupted seconds, little battle flashes off in the distance... and then boom. Explosion (in firey detail and rubble), sonic boom. End trailer. Million copies sold.

But yeah, it seems to me that the detail you can devote to the planets and Star Destroyers and Death Star should be enough to hook some graphics junkies who were too young to know that shit came before Jar Jar (or that XvT existed at all).

I didn't think the N64 ones were bad (think there was more than one). I put a LOT of time into rogue squadron. Was annoying to be planet bound as previously mentioned--but the missions were well done.

Some sweet Hoth battles would help in the graphic's front. Man, I can't wait for for this.

rotfl

It's not a real Star Wars console game without a Hoth battle after all.

Hey, I'm willing to go outside the box and have the same type of battle happen on another ice planet. ;)

Man, my roommates and I played the shit out of these in college.

Ah, the good old days of the 486. I remember when my buddy upgraded his from 2 MB of RAM to FOUR MB! We were so impressed!

No kidding. It could be a game set 3000 years in the past and they'd have a Jedi having a vision of the future in which the battle of Hoth occurs so you could play that level.

Rogue Leader was one of my top 2 or 3 favorite Gamecube games. Although I didn't play Rogue Squadron until around 2001, I felt it was a little too ambitious for the N64. The Gamecube games finally realized that vision. Even Rebel Strike wasn't bad, although the ground missions kind of sucked.

There was just the one Rogue Squadron for N64, but there was also a Battle for Naboo game. I never played that one.
