Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
DLC Week of 3/2 - Singles from Everclear, Good Charlotte and Mastodon!
Hey gang,
Portland, Oregon rock band Everclear had their first hit with “Santa Monica,” the fourth track off of 1995’s Sparkle and Fade. The track, which found radio popularity despite never officially being released as a single, comes to the Rock Band Music Store complete with a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade.
“The Anthem,” Good Charlotte’s second single off of their second album, 2002’s The Young and the Hopeless, is also on its way to the Music Store. The catchy, uptempo track was a hit for Good Charlotte, and quickly climbed the charts worldwide.
Since their formation in 2000, Mastodon has won over metal fans and critics with their dense, monstrous sound and complex compositions. In 2011, the band released The Hunter, featuring the Grammy nominated track “Curl of the Burl,” which rounds out a trio of singles slated to hit the Rock Band Music Store on March 6th.
Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (March 6th, 2012):
* Everclear – “Santa Monica” X
* Good Charlotte – “The Anthem”
* Mastodon – “Curl of the Burl”
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 7th)
Tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.
Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

I'll probably grab the first two. Too bad they don't have the 20-minute remix of Santa Monica we did in high school because we couldn't remember the next verse so we were just stuck like a skipping record.

I would settle for a 3 pack with "You Make Me Feel Like a Whore" and "Heartspark Dollar Sign".
Definitely in for Everclear. I've been on a '90s alt rock kick and may pick up the Luve, Bush, and Screaming Trees songs sooner rathet than later.

Great, now fucking Art Alexakis is going to be back on the radio around here talking this shit up. Thanks Harmonix, we finally got him to realize he's not A-list. Fuck you very much.

He'll probably celebrate by recording yet another greatest hits album with whatever his current live band is. Not that I'm even paying that much attention to Everclear anymore, but seriously, their last two albums have both been re-recorded greatest hits, and that's just...I don't know, even sadder than still being in Everclear all these decades later.

Ha. I will totally stand by Sparkle and Fade. I liked So Much for the Afterglow well enough at the time but find most of it kinda overproduced, the bad-kind-of-poppy, and tedious now. Have stayed far, far away from everything else.

Random topic: so when Harmonix started (briefly) rolling out RB3 upgrades, I vowed not to buy anything off of my lengthy legacy DLC wishlist, since anything on it could potentially get the new treatment. It seems, for bad or good, they largely abandoned upgrading and I have recently been catching up on my backlog (mostly to have crowd favorites for parties, but I also have since gotten into Memphis soul and wanted the Otis Redding pack). Anyone else's make a similar vow? Have you broken it?
FWIW, I still haven't upgraded any of my DLC songs to their RB3 versions.

I've yet to stop buying. The only official DLC I never picked up was that Queen pack (because I don't really care for keys). I have all the other "RB3 Version" songs, since they were more or less free with a pack (like Bon Jovi).
Hopefully, I can keep just out of range of the "3,000" bug until RB4 hits. I'm at 2200ish songs right now, I think.

Liked all three singles this week. Don't like 3 Days Grace much but should be playable.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
So have you been keeping up with whatever this big announcement from Harmonix is that's waiting in the wings?
I guess this is what we know so far:
* It's a download-only title.
* It takes advantage of existing Rock Band DLC.
* It's not Rock Band 4.
* It's not a band-specific title.
Apparently more will be announced at PAX East next month.

That's what I've been talking about for three years. I just need rock band engines, no packaged songs.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
That would actually make a lot of sense. Nobody buys $60 music games anymore, but charge $10 for the shell (or even give it away for free) and you could increase your DLC customer base like crazy. The DLC is clearly their bread and butter these days.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I was actually wondering earlier today if bands/labels prefer to share a $60 disc with 80 other bands but guarantee exposure or if they prefer the limited dlc market.
