inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
E3 teaser is up:
E3! It’s finally here, and those of us from Sucker Punch couldn’t be more excited. Today we’re getting a chance to show off the first trailer for our new game (you guessed it) inFAMOUS 2. In inFAMOUS we told the story of Cole MacGrath, an ordinary guy who gets superpowers. This time around in inFAMOUS 2, Cole starts out as a full on superhero and only gets more and more powerful. It’s more visceral, brutal and personal experience that commands you attention, making you feel the part of the superhero in every decision you make… be it for good or evil. Get ready for the hell of a fight right off the bat. At the beginning of the game Cole meets a civilization ending villain who’s too powerful to beat. Looking to get stronger powers for a rematch Cole is forced to head south to New Marais, the town where the Ray Sphere was designed and built. Like I said, Cole starts out the game as a superhero over the course of inFAMOUS 2 he’s going to become a super super hero (that’s right double super). If you check out the new trailer you’ll get an eyeful of steamy New Marais; it’s a town inspired by the great cities of the American south, particularly New Orleans. My father grew up there, when I was a kid he would tell me stories about the place: man eater alligators, creepy buildings, jazz music, river boat casinos, above ground cemeteries, and people going crazy at Mardi Gras. He made the town sound larger than life, full of overpowering beauty and scary stuff in every alley, what better place to set a superhero story? While watching the new trailer you’ll also get a glimpse at Cole’s new threads, the perfect outfit for jumping across rooftops on those humid New Marais nights. Actually Cole’s going to be doing a lot more than jumping this time around; his parkour and electrical powers continue to grow, providing him with more and more ways to fluidly race through the city. He’s also picked up a fine, fine new weapon to bash enemies with; it’s basically two heavy pipes with some stored up electrical charge between the poles (sorta like the world’s biggest cattle prod). Laying into villains with this baby is exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about when describing inFAMOUS 2 as more visceral, brutal and personal. You can feel the pain Cole is dishing out when the weapon connects with a enemy’s skull. Anyhow, there you go. I look forward to posting more stuff once we have it ready for the public. inFAMOUS 2 is the biggest, baddest game Sucker Punch has ever tried to pull off… stay tuned for more from on inFAMOUS 2 in the near future. They made him look like Nathan Drake. |

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
He looks nothing like Drake.
ANyhoo, it looks much improved from the last game but I don't like what appears to be constant momentum. In a lot of games your character just keeps moving forward when you make him attack and you sort of have to steer him. It looks like that annoying style of combat momentum is in this game. It's cool when you're traveling through the city but becomes a burden when employed in combat. |
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I'm sorry but I just don't see the appeal of either Infamous games. I played the first one's demo and it was pure shit. I can't believe its soo popular and the story is just horrid. Btw this is coming from a hardcore ps3 fan.

to each his own I think it is the best next gen sandbox game I have played didn't care at all for GTAIV and while Red Dead Redemption is better thus far I still had more fun with inFAMOUS |

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I enjoyed the main story even though his sidekick was annoying as hell. The twist ending was pretty creative. And I liked the sidequests. Some repeated a few too many times but there were some sq that were different and fun to do.

Infamous is one of my favorite PS3 games. One of the first games I enjoyed enough to play through twice for both good and bad ... and to play enough to get a platinum.
Definitely looking forward to the sequel. |

I whole-heartedly agree. I liked AC but ACII got it right. - just pissed me off that a couple of trophies glitched on me in ACII. Lookin forward to Infamous 2. |
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I guess I should play my unopened copy of inFAMOUS soon, eh?

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I'll play the first one again [just played & completed it a couple a months ago] as BAD KARMA before 2 comes out. Can't wait.

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I really liked the first Infamous (certainly more so than Prototype, which had more interesting powers but horrible gameplay). I will be getting Infamous 2 on day one.

SDCC 10: Infamous 2 – They're Changing Cole Back Remember when we freaked out about the new character design... July 22, 2010 A panel for Infamous just let out at San Diego Comic-Con, but the real news came before the show even started. Sucker Punch is changing Cole's look in Infamous 2 so that the protagonist looks more like he did in the original game. A few weeks ago, the developer released the first screens and videos for Infamous 2, and all of that featured a drastically different Cole. This version of the hero had more hair, tattoos and a bunch of other stuff that made him look far different from the bike messenger we knew in the original game. While the game is still in development and will continue to change, I was handed a manila envelope this afternoon that contained two images of Cole's new-new look. Due to the stage in development, I can't tell you exactly what he looks like, but I can tell you he looks more like the person we played as in the original Infamous and less like the man who was in all of those E3 screens and videos.
More Infamous 2 Videos
|
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I tried a demo of this game at CES today. Gotta say, I wasn't impressed. I'm sure it's an early build, but it had MAJOR framerate issues when several baddies were attacking (they were these alien-like things). You felt less like a superhero, at least in this demo. Instead of shooting lightning, you have what looks sort of like a light saber handle that gets an electric bolt when used in attack. Combat was way too easy and not at all fun. Then you have a section where you chase a limo. You're encouraged to surf on wires, but that seemed harder to do than in the original. Then you stir up some electric vortexes to mess with the citizens for no apparent reason (it's just what you're told to do by the prompt), it's again too easy since you can do it over and over and nobody fights back.
I din't like the new style either. The camera is pulled in much closer and the look is more hyper-real. It looks sort of like Uncharted in that regards, but not nearly as pretty (and again, that framerate, ugh). I'm sure there's a lot of time to iron things out and Sucker Punch has never let me down, but I have to call it like I see it and I wasn't at all as impressed as I thought I'd be with InFamous 2 by this point. At least Cole looks more or less like Cole. edit : Here's a video of the demo I played, done by someone who was way better at controlling it than me. I could never get Cole to fly or lob grenades, so maybe it's a better game and I just need more practice. In either case, I'm still not crazy about the new look. |

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
Barring bad reviews, this is a highly anticipated game for me. The first one was outstanding.
Decker -- was there any explanation as to why Cole carries that lighting thing around?? Does he not have the powers he had in the first game? |
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
That demo video was awesome!
|
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
Still has the same powers. From what I have read - the Metal rod he caries just helps him focus his powers in combat. I'll look in my back issues of Oficial PS Magazine when I get a chance to for the specifics.

IGN's Early Review is up. Sounds really, really good. I hope the Kmart offer is good (I expect it to be). I've got my LA Noire coupon ready and waiting for this one.

If you neglect side quests, the city will be less safe (making the game more difficult) and you’ll have fewer skills to purchase. Neglecting to collect Blast Shards gives Cole less electricity to work with. Ignoring Dead Drops will keep the story darker and more nebulous. And refusing to work with UGC not only forces you to miss out on easy Trophies but also removes a welcome community feel to Infamous 2 that the original lacked. Nothing exists in Infamous 2 just because, and that’s something developer Sucker Punch should be commended for. When combined with how well-executed just about everything in the game is, the overall package is one of PlayStation 3’s best and a must-play for fans of the first game. Don’t be deceived by niche subject matter like I was when the original Infamous first came out. This is a rock-solid third-person action game with an incredible story, great characters, meaty gameplay and – above all else – a string that effectively ties everything together. .IGN Ratings for Infamous 2 (PS3). Rating Description out of 10 Click here for ratings guide 9.0 Presentation Infamous 2’s storyline is contingent on having played the original, but it’s a well-delivered tale with two totally different endings. There’s plenty to discover in terms of plot. 8.5 Graphics The original Infamous was a good-looking game, but Infamous 2 cleans things up considerably. It looks great and runs well, and the animations are fluid. 8.0 Sound Cole’s original voice actor is missed here, but the new guy does well enough. A great, moody soundtrack compliments a solid roster of voice actors. 8.5 Gameplay Infamous 2, like its predecessor, is a hell of a third-person action game. The only thing that holds Infamous 2 back are camera issues and lackluster melee mechanics. 9.5 Lasting Appeal Expect to spend 20 hours beating Infamous 2; twice that much if you want to do everything again. There are myriad collectibles to find, and User Generated Content galore to mess around with. 9.0 OVERALL Amazing (out of 10) |

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
The exact same thing happened with MLB 12 The Show a week before its release. Someone got it early and on the cheap at Target. He posted on CAG. I think they were ringing up the new game at the previous one's price. Sounds like that is happening again -- rarely.

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I got my copy today from the Subway giveaway. Pretty fun so far, but I never played the original (was hoping that #2 would be delayed a bit so I could play #1 for free whenever the PS Store starts back up), so I'm unsure what's changed/improved from the first game.
Was Cole difficult to control in the first game? I can't quite nail down some of his jumps onto objects. |
Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
My biggest gripes with the first one was nailing some of the climbing and the fact that the bad guys seemed to have sniper-like abilities when they spotted you from miles away. Other than that it was a great game.

Re: inFAMOUS 2 (PS3) - 2011
I've read that this is supposed to somehow incorporate your game-save from the first game.
I hope it's not a big deal, since I lost my save when my old PS3 died. |

From what I've read, it mainly gives you some starting bonuses. However, they did say certain choices you make in the first game would affect the storyline (a la Mass Effect). To what extent it changes the story, I don't know.
As for the story effects, I'm only a few hours in, but it seems to be pretty minimal. The only thing I've seen so far is a side quest where a girl mentioned how I had given her family some food back in Empire City, and that's the only reason she survived. I'm pretty sure that food thing was a side quest in the first game. I like the game so far, but the moral choices are still so completely black and white that it just makes the whole thing kind of silly. Will you give ice cream and cake to the starving orphans and renovate their orphanage, or burn the orphanage down and then kill all the firefighters that respond to the fire? |
