Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Well, I got in last night. Downloaded the thing for two hours this morning.

King Widget, one of the Joker's many disciples now roams the streets.

But I haven't found anything that would keep me playing this very long.

My download stalled and I had to quit and reopen the game. Luckily, it resumed from where it had stopped.

I kicked off the long download this morning while getting ready for work. Hopefully I can actually play it some tonight.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Luckily my download only took a little over two hours.

Got through the first level and enjoyed it. They obviously still have some kinks to work out. I have yet, however, tried any of the actual MMO stuff so I'll try that soon.

I actually snagged two extra codes for some friends in case they weren't able to grab one. I'm waiting to hear back, but if they don't need them, then I'll give them away here.

Should we start an official request list in case anyone else also has an extra?

I assume Giantrobo didn't get one because of the frowny face. And then JasonF mentioned 2nd he didn't get one. And then cruzness. Did I miss anyone or get the order wrong?

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

I saw where Gamespot was offering codes (saw the post on Twitter) and they were all gone by the time I tried.

If anyone gets an extra PC code I would be happy to try it out.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Since I didn't see any confirmation from Giantrobo or JasonF that they still needed a code, I sent one to cruzness.

"meh" is a pretty fair assessment. I've never played an MMO RPG before, but that was weird (if slightly amusing) to see a hundred individual superheroes all milling about with nothing particular to do.

I love how that spectacular beginning kicks off and then is immediately negated by the time-traveling Lex. It's like "check out this amazing scene -- that's not what's happening in your game universe, but it might be some day!!!". A little hard to get too excited about that.

It's also hard to envision a world that's simultaneously in constant danger yet has a population of way more super-heroes than civilians.

I played just a bit yesterday. Will check it out again this weekend. I'd never buy it (let alone pay a subscription fee), but for free it's worth checking out at least.

That will teach me to have stuff to do that keeps me offline.

(Thanks for thinking of me, though!)

JasonF has been taken care of. All that is left is maybe Giantrobo for the PS3 and the xmiyux for the PC.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Well, primetime isn't the time to be downloading 15gb over PSN. I left my PS3 on all evening and only went from 15% to 85%.

Maybe I'll get to try it tonight.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Holy carp. I downloaded the beta and it took about half an hour. "That's not so bad," I thought. Little did I realize that the real download is when you launch the beta and it downloads the resources. My "time remaining" is fluctuating wildly, showing as little as 12 hours (Yay -- I can play in the morning) and as much as 36 hours (yikes!).

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

This is my first exposure to an MMO and there's no way I'd pay for this even if it wasn't one.

A monthly fee? No thanks.

I'm relieved to find out that I don't get access to the Beta.
