With Harmonix doing basically the same thing, the announcement is very reminiscent of last year's E3 when Activision announced the Tony Hawk board and then 30 minutes later MS showed that you could use any skateboard in Natal.

I dig Clapton...but there is no fucking way I will buy this. I would just rather buy the Rock Band guitar instead.

You know what's interesting about that clip (besides "nothing")? Watch it again and see how the crappy drum peripheral is cropped out of every band shot. You can't tell me that's just a coincidence.

I played this game on Wednesday. The drums looks stupid as shit, but the guitar was kinda fun. You were only allowed to play on easy, and it seemed like "red" never wanted to work for me. You basically can strum any string you feel like as long as your holding down by the correct colored fret. Rock Band 3, however was way more crazy and you have to hit the exact string and fret at the right time, by quickly looking at whatever number is on screen. Very difficult.

I know that nobody really cares at this point, but there is an interview with someone who worked on this game. He reminds me alot of Ben Stein in Ferris Bueler. Ends up that everything new that is said about this game makes it look worse and worse in my opinion. First we saw the stuff about the real guitar. I thought that was cool...
Then came the air drums and now...the game has a story mode.
Yep, you are using the power of rock to battle the evil forces taking over the land of Ohm. Buzz Killington goes into much more detail in the video, even breaking down character classes and more useless info.
I can't get the video to embed properly, here's a link to it at kotaku.
So it seems like Rock Band not only stole their thunder with the real instrument part, but now Guitar Hero did the same thing with the story mode.
I keep getting the impression they just got a bunch of amatuer designers and programmers togehter, kept saying 'dude, this would be awesome!" and formed a company to make the game.

I got 45 seconds into that video when I decided to take one for the team, start over, and count the "um"s. Brb.
My tally sheet: 1111111111111111111111111111
Total "Um"s and "Uh"s: 28. I'm not sure if the very first word is "Uh" or "Hi" so the margin of error is +/-1.

Man, um, that story mode sounds, uh, really lame and I, um, have even less interest in the, uh, game than I did before I, um, watched it.
The thing that's so funny about that clip isn't how bad the speaker is, but rather how apparently earnestly he believes potential gamers would be not only interested in, but captivated by that incredibly dumb and cliched story. It sort of reminds me of when a gifted seven or eight year old boy in my office shows me a picture he drew and insists I hear his explanation of every detail in the drawing. In that case, common courtesy dictates I pretend to be slightly interested; here I am under no such obligations.
What's amazing is that they seem to have totally forgotten why they made this game with a "real" guitar and why people play guitar games in the first place : They want to pretend that they're rock stars and are playing awesome rock music. To ask the gamer to pretend to be a Brutal Legend-type stylized character trying to save the world from rock & roll oppression only further removes the player from the desired experience and makes the now-familiar gameplay that much less immersive. A bad miscalculation in a game apparently filled with them.

The company making this game should probably just burn down their offices for the insurance money and never release the game. This thing will sell like snow cones in the North Pole.

Anyone want a t-shirt? They gave one to me at E3 that I'll never wear. Free... take it off my hands. I think it's a L or XL. I can't remember.

How am I supposed to choose between this and Guitar Hero for my unnecessary story mode needs?

Would dumping a bunch of fake guitars into a real volcano work?

I just flushed and infinite number of Power Gig drum kits down the toilet. Sorry I don't have the video.

Hey everyone : Power Gig is now available for Pre-Order! Amazon has their preorder packages up. The Guitar Kit runs $179.99 while the full Band Kit will set you back $229.99. Yeah that seems a little pricey, but check out the awesome pre-order bonus:
If DJ Hero is currently going for $39.99 with an extra turntable at Best Buy, can you imagine what Power Gig will be selling for next August? Any one who needs an electric guitar just wait until then!

Seriously, they should just cancel this thing. Even the people who worked on it have to know it's going to be a failure.
