I don't want to learn to play guitar, I want to push buttons only. And I don't want to spend a shit-ton on new peripherals.

But what if it helps you transform into a Pig o' Rock?

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the guitar sounded like absolute shit when plugged into an amp.

Release date is October 5th. Comes in three varieties: game only (which makes me unsure as to how you'd actually play it), game and guitar, and game, guitar and weird drum thing.

http://powergig.com/pre-order

Sounds like some sort of Move support is included.

Brand New Peripherals o The SixString Guitar Controller creates a more authentic gameplay experience through its use of real guitar strings rather than buttons.
Allows for advanced modes of play that integrate real guitar playing and skills into gameplay that is both fun and entertaining.
Outside of the game world, the SixString is a fully functional electric guitar.
Power Gig proprietary Drum Controller: Move Info Coming
Power Gig Microphone
All controllers are compatible with most music games.
Full band gameplay allowing up to three players, one each, on guitar, drums and microphone
Rock and Roll Adventure o Each of up to 3 players can take on the role of one of six heroic rockers as they embark on an epic quest to overthrow the oppressive headliner who has brought disharmony to the world of the game
As players progress through the story of the game, they will meet interesting characters, learn how to harness and employ mystical power, and discover who they truly are and what they are capable of in this unique world.
Unique Gameplay Modes o Chording Mode gameplay allows players to gain fundamental guitar skills that will put them on the path to playing real music offline.
A robust mode that contains game tutorials, tools, and lessons that will help players better acclimate themselves to the peripherals of Power Gig, the world of the game, and real musicianship outside of the game world.

And this is not great news for GH/RB fans:

Music industry superstars Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock have each entered into exclusive agreements with Seven45 Studios to provide songs for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, the first band videogame for which the guitar peripheral is a functioning six-string electric guitar. The deals mark the first time ever that songs from each of the three artists will appear as part of a music videogame.

And Gamespot went hands-on recently. The drums are some sort of magical motion sensitive air noticing thing...

I agree with this, I have a very nice electric guitar that goes mostly unused that would be perfect if this was possible.

I doubt that's the case though and with that said, I dunno. Would I really like to learn guitar above simple chords with the help of a realistic guitar? Sure. But how much more money will I have to dump into this? That's the real question. I'll reserve judgment until the game pops up and gets some reviews. It would be nice to really be able to play the guitar to go along with my decent singing voice but I'm not rich. ;)

Just wait for the new RB guitar if you want a more realistic experience. I'm sure it'll blow this out of the water.

I hope Clapton is at least getting paid up front and not getting a cut of sales. Otherwise, I'm guessing it'll be a slim paycheck.

Re: Power Gig: Rise of the SixString - Real Guitar Music Game (PS3, 360)

I hope Clapton and DMB have some sort of an out clause that allows them to go to Rock Band if/when this game fails miserably. It looks cool, but this is a dying game genre and NOBODY wants to spend $150+ on a new peripheral that will only work with one game.

And if I never hear that My Sharona rip-off "She's A Genius" song again, it'll be too soon.

That drum thing looks and sounds like a terrible idea. Most of the fun of drumming is hitting something. Take that away and it's going to be a terrible experience.

Noooooo! Why Kid Rock? WHY????

Spoiler:
;)

Rock Revolution proved that vertical scrolling is fucking terrible. This will be in the bargain bin before New Year's. Then those exclusive contracts won't mean so much.

And yeah, I'm done buying instruments.

Spoiler:
..And will probably be announcing other new stuff at E3.

Yeah, everything about this just screams "Rock Revolution 2". I'm sure the devs had good intentions, but it looks TERRIBLE.

My wife is on maternity leave so I told her to practice her drum skills in RB, she was like "why"? I was like "So when the keyboards get here you can play drums, fucking duh." her reply.... "Keyboards!? WTF is wrong with you."

Then she proceeded to say we need a bigger house for all my gaming shit...so she finally gets it!

These people are fucking idiots. The only logic one can see from the outside in this decision (beyond money which seems unlikely) is that they want a "more true guitar experience".

Harmonix must not have a good enough pitch team for these "artists".

 Seriously. Harmonix needs some serious closers.
