MLB TV on PS3

I was really interested when I found out the PS3 had MLB TV available, so I subscribed and have found it to be very disappointing. First of all the live play by play is very choppy, stops and starts all the the time, I never have a problem with online play or a slow Internet connection. Also the so called HD feed looks like a YouTube video even with HDMI cables and a 1080p tv, has anyone else tried this service, and any thoughts or similar problems

I do experience problems with it from time to time, right now being one of those times. i just tried to watch a game but there is no feed to chose from to watch and the screen is flickering. But for the most part it has worked really well.

I wish there was a free trial for this bc I would consider it depending on quality. Im never able to watch Yankee games on YES anymore bc Directv keeps getting blackedout :-/

The PS3 app is free and MLB.tv does have monthly plans for $20-$25/month. It really doesn't cost you any more for the remaining five months of the season if you went month-to-month.

Re: MLB TV on PS3

This is as good a place as any to cut & paste my blackout FAQs. For some (perhaps many) this might be a deal breaker. Here in Vegas I can be blacked out from seeing up to TWELVE teams in a single day, because six markets have claimed southern NV as a local market, meaning no live home or away games for the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Diamondbacks, Giants or A's. It's crazy unfair, but for others it's just one team. So be aware before you sign up.

Regular Season Local Live Blackout:
All live games on MLB.TV and available through MLB.com At Bat are subject to local blackouts. Such live games will be blacked out in each applicable Club's home television territory, regardless of whether that Club is playing at home or away. If a game is blacked out in an area, it is not available for live game viewing. If you are an MLB.TV Premium subscriber and not within either Club's home television territory, the applicable game will be available as an archived game as soon as possible after the conclusion of the game. If you are an MLB.TV Premium subscriber within either Club's home television territory or an MLB.TV subscriber in any territory, the applicable game will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Archived games are not available through MLB.com At Bat.

In addition, note:
These blackout restrictions apply regardless of whether a Club is home or away and regardless of whether or not a game is televised in a Club's home television territory.
All live Toronto Blue Jays games are blacked out throughout the entire country of Canada.
Additional teams may also be subject to blackout in parts of Canada based on their region.
All live games will be blacked out in the U.S. territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the MLB regular season.
Regular Season Weekend U.S. National Live Blackout:
Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, live games occurring each Saturday with a scheduled start time after 1:10 PM ET or before 7:05 PM ET and each Sunday with a scheduled start time after 5:00 PM ET, will be blacked out in the United States (including the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands). In addition, in the event of extraordinary circumstances that produce a programming conflict, the above blackout windows may be subject to change. If you are an MLB.TV Premium subscriber outside of the United States, each of these games will be available as an archived game as soon as possible after the conclusion of the applicable game. If you are an MLB.TV Premium subscriber within the United States or an MLB.TV subscriber in any territory, each of these games will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the applicable game. Archived games are not available through MLB.com At Bat

Regular Season Play-In Game:
Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, any play-in game to determine the final team(s) to reach the MLB Postseason, i.e. a 163rd game, will be blacked out in the United States (including the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Live Audio of such games is available as part of any MLB.TV subscription, as part of the MLB.com At Bat with Gameday Audio subscription and may be available as part of certain other of our subscription services, including MLB.com At Bat.

Postseason Live Blackout:
Due to Major League Baseball exclusivities, during the MLB Postseason, all live games will be blacked out in the United States (including the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada. If you are an MLB.TV Premium Subscriber outside of the United States and Canada, each of these games will be available as an archived game as soon as possible after the conclusion of the applicable game. If you are an MLB.TV Premium Subscriber within the United States or Canada or an MLB.TV subscriber in any territory, each of these games will be available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of the applicable game. Archived games are not available through MLB.com At Bat.

Live Audio of those games subject to the blackout restrictions reflected above is available as part of any MLB.TV subscription, as part of the MLB.com At Bat with Gameday Audio Package or as part of MLB.com At Bat.

Postseason.TV:
Subscribers to the Postseason.TV subscription service, available only during the MLB Postseason, will be able to view live alternative video feeds (excluding the broadcast feed) from MLB Postseason games without blackout restrictions.

Re: MLB TV on PS3

FWIW, I've watched probably 1/2 dozen Braves games through the PS3 MLB.tv and I haven't experienced anything other than a minor blip. Sure, the picture's not exactly 1080p, but it's so much better than watching it on my computer. There's room for improvement, but I'm pretty impressed with the service so far.

Here's a pretty good representative video/review:

Re: MLB TV on PS3

It seems to me that this thing is really meant for an out-of-market fan to follow his team, preferably a team in a different league than the home market team.

Unless, that is, you want to see all (or some, depending on market) of the other games too.

I guess, but when SIX different teams claim to be your local market, it makes things difficult. There's no logic to it at all. People in Orange County can watch the Padres which are about an hour away, but here in Vegas, not only can I not watch the Padres (who are five hours away from here), I can't even watch the Giants, who according to Mapquest are 8hrs 49 min away. Someone explain that one to me.

Re: MLB TV on PS3

I tried going from my wireless set up to plugging the modem straight into the PS3, and well the pic has improved slightly but I am still getting the buffering. Wow what a waste of a hundred bucks!!

On my TV, it looks pretty good, but I do get ...what's the word... pixilation? artifacting?... on the grass. Other than that, it's TV broadcast quality.

I had none of the problems you were talking about until today. It's really bad too. Constant starts and stops, and I know what you mean about the youTube comment. It seemed like after one of the buffering sessions it returned in very low quality. So it looked like ass and then still continued starting and stopping every 15 seconds. Really shitty. Glad I'm on a monthly plan here as if this continues I'll be canceling this soon.

Re: MLB TV on PS3

Hmm. I wonder what I'm doing that's exempted me from these issues. Maybe it's just my internet service... I flip back and forth between games, resume games in progress, etc. and I rarely have any of the issues you guys are describing.

I kind of like it so far, but the only thing that annoys me is the feed controller is really go out of his way to not show commercials, but at the same time they interrupt game and commentary.

Yes, it's really $20-25 per month, depending on which version you choose, or $79 to $99 for the full season. Here's the info on the options: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/index.jsp

Yes. If you subscribe, you can use it on any device that will play it (just like with NetFlix streaming).
