It can for sure, but it doesn't always have to. If you're on your own I can see it, but if you have others to play with I've found it to have just as many ups as downs over time. (GoW1 that is. I was always more negative towards GoW2's MP.)

Yep. The core mechanics are too clunky and sluggish required for a fast paced multiplayer killing frenzy. 99% of the time you spawn, slowly move somewhere, then instantly get taken down by a shotgun guy somewhere. Everything about it just feels un-responsive, thus not suited for competitive play. Never has been.

That said 1 and 2 are still two of my favorite games for the campaign alone, and I've already had part 3 paid for for a few months in anticipation

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

I had a lot of fun playing GoW1 MP with friends. My daughter was born around that time and I would even play with her in my arms...

For GoW2 I was never able to reunite with my team, for whatever reason, but I still played a lot, and thanks to all the special XP days I reached level 60 or something.

So yeah, I'm not hardcore but I've had my fun.

This is NOT true for GOW3 Beta.

That's the only way I've lost experience, how else are people losing it?

Me and my Gears buddies still play Gears 1. We've been playing a few nights a week again lately. The shotgun was too erratic in Gears 2 (and too powerful at long range)...I didn't mind MP Gears 2 but a few of my buddies hated it with a passion.

Then again, I really don't like Halo much (too slow), or realistic shooters like COD or the like...so maybe I'm abnormal.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

So Gears 3 has over 4 times the preorders at this point than Reach did...Reach ended up selling 4 million week one. I would like to note that these preorders were high before the Beta came out...

Is this possibly the best example ever of how the used game market can actually help a game? I have 3 friends that I play all the time with. Of those 3, 2 of them bought Gears 1 and 2 used so we could play. All 4 of us have this preordered. I know for a fact 2 of them never would have bought 3 if not for the used version of 2. Gears 2 sold a bit over 6 million copies, but I am sure the number of people that played it at friends house, used and rentals is FAR above 10 million. If the game was digital only, would Gears 3 sell half as much as it is doing now?

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

I pre-ordered it and I haven't bought a Gears game before. I didn't pre-order for the beta or because I'm in love with the series.

I pre-ordered because it now has 4-player co-op and I have 3 local friends that do love the game. Plus I got dibs on Anya and if I don't play when it comes out, that's meaningless.

It took me a few year, and it's kinda embarrassing for me but the two games where I have the most fun online are Halo and Gears of War (Specially Halo).

I did not like the football stadium level at all..

Also had connection issues....took a long time to find a game...

I only use the Lancer. I can't get any kills with the others especially the Retro Lancer. The Gnasher is too damn powerful, it needs to be toned down. Fuckers killing me from far away with it.

Checkout I like a lot, agree ^ about Stadium [at least I killed someone with the scoreboard ].

Haven't had issues at all.

Anyway I'm liking it so far, just need at least 2 more maps. Love all the different goals/challenges [especially always getting killed first ] u can get during a match.

And it looks very pretty indeed.

I will keep playing the beta to try and get some of the unlockables, and to try some of the other game modes and maps once they are released.

I think I played it 3 times in Gears 2 and made it through 1 round in Gears 3 before deleting the beta

Yeah still here and playing it, I'm loving the BETA especially King Of the Hill. I'm gotten way better since when I first tried it.

BTW Capture The Leader has been up since Friday. The Locust Queen is sweet and would love to be able to unlock her in the final game. I hope the final 2 mp levels are available soon, like tomorrow.

In the last week of the beta we will be able to share up to five codes with friends. In case anyone is interested, I'm sure some people will post codes here.

Re: The trilogy complete? Official Gears of War 3 thread

Here's the ways players in the beta right now can obtain more codes for friends.

This is the email from Epic.

You've been tearing up the Gears of War® 3 beta for a couple days now, and it's almost time to let you choose which of your friends you want to bring into the fun.

That's right, we're going to let you bring up to five of your friends into the fight in the last week of the beta. Together, you'll get the chance to preview the game before most people and help make Gears of War 3 even better.

We're giving you one extra code just for being in the beta.*

Want to bring even more people in? You'll get one more code for doing each of the following things. You can do any or all of them and get one extra code for each.*

You are receiving this email as part of your participation in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta. There will be a series of three email communications delivering information about your participation in the beta. These communications will end on May 20, 2011. There will be no more than three communications. Your promotional communications status with Xbox is not affected by these communications.

Limited-time beta period. See www.gearsofwar.com for complete details and availability. Beta offered by Microsoft. Xbox LIVE Gold membership and Xbox 360® storage device with 2 GB available space required.

You are receiving one additional token for the Gears of War 3 beta for being a beta participant. One-time-use code valid for named recipient of this email in the 50 United States (including Washington, D.C.), aged 17 years and older. Code is nontransferable and not redeemable for cash. Code must be redeemed by May 15, 2011.

*The Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta Offer—good only for named recipients of these emails who are legal residents of the 50 United States (including Washington, D.C.), aged 17 years and older. To receive additional beta tokens, you must do the following between 12:01 A.M. Pacific Time on May 1, 2011, and 11:59 P.M. Pacific Time on May 15, 2011.

• Purchase a Gears of War add-on, Games on Demand, or Avatar item from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

• Play more than 20 hours of the beta.

• Purchase a 12-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership (retail or online). Retail tokens purchased must be redeemed through Xbox LIVE by May 4, 2011.

• Play more than 100 hours of Gears of War or Gears of War 2 lifetime to date as of May 4, 2011.

You will earn one additional beta token for completing each of the four events above. You may complete any or all of the four items above. Limit: five beta access codes per account while supplies last. Code(s) will be sent to the email address tied to your Xbox LIVE account by May 8, 2011. Valid email required; any emails returned as nondeliverable will not be re‑sent. Code must be redeemed by May 15, 2011. Offer not redeemable for cash, not valid on prior Gold membership purchases, and cannot be combined with any other offers.

The beta is pretty fun but I am starting to get tired of all the shotguns. I prefer not using the shotty but it seems to give me the best chance of survival while running around the map.
