So can one still purchase the season pass or was it a special deal?

You still can.

Rumor has it that it may be on sale before the end of the year though, so wait a few days at least.

Okay, WTF: I finally finished the game after starts and stops. I played to the conclusion and saw the credits. Why did the game not show as completed for me? No final Achievements, no Avatar Award. This has seriously pissed me off!

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

That's odd. It's possible that your progress got reset from one of the many updates. If you look at the achievement list in the stats section, it should tell you which acts the game thinks you have completed.

Finally popped this in for the first time last night and played some Horde with friends. Holy shit it was a blast. Much better than Gears 2 Horde mode.

go in and load a single level...then scroll through each act and see if you have credit for finishing it..if one is missing go into that act and see which chapter you are missing...

is this not just a BIG fuck YOU to anyone who got this already? I mean, I understand things going on sale after it comes out..you get it early you usually pay more...but since the season pass has not released all the content yet, it sort of seem wrong to go on sale already...

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

Yes, I think the intent of MS (and Epic?) with that sale was to insult all the early adopters.

It wasn't a deep discount and they probably thought most people that did want it, had it already. I'd be interested in the actual numbers that sale generated. I mean, I wasn't going to buy it but that was enough to get me to do it so I can't be alone.

That said, it was still high enough even at 1800 points to keep some people away, like Decker, so it wasn't the end-all-be-all price.

So it was probably a delicate balance of offering something "big" while expecting fewer than average sales while not giving away something major like a semi-recent XBLA game or whatever that could have generated more sales overall.

Again, all of this is total conjecture and based off nothing. Maybe they really did want to say fuck you and exactly you?

well I never bought it....but sometimes a company can say fuck you to its customer without even trying...I never said it was their goal to say fuck you...just that they did in fact fuck you...you being anyone who bought this already...

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

 If someone who did buy it didn't use it before it went on sale, then they might feel slighted, but whose responsibility is that? Anyone that did buy it at "full" price did so knowing that a sale in the future was likely. If that sale happens before you expect it, does that mean your purchase was a mistake?

All of retail is a gamble and a waiting game. Are people actually complaining about this sale? I mean people that paid "full" price for it and not someone who didn't buy it on or off sale? ;)

Good idea. Will check to see if I maybe turned it off once too early. Thanks.

The season pass thing is still new so I'm not surprised with price tinkering. Maybe they didn't sell quite what they expected at launch, so now they are testing the waters at a lower price to see what people are willing to spend on a season pass.

You know MS will want to try this with Halo 4, so I don't think tinkering with a "season" price now is all that unexpected.

That's my guess; initial sales probably weren't very good. I don't hear much hype around Gears 3 since it was released with MW3 and BF3 taking most of the attention, so I wonder if they were trying to just do something to boost interest a bit.

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

Gears 2 did the whole "All Fronts" collection too which is sort of the same thing, just after-the-fact, and it eventually dropped to almost free, right? It's not really a new concept other than doing it at the beginning, but even then Mass Effect 2 did something similar with Cerberus Network like 2 years ago, not to mention more recent releases like L.A. Noire and Mortal Kombat, etc.

$30 is a lot to shell out, especially when the contents aren't fully known. Maybe they should drive up demand by removing the season pass from the marketplace when the DLC starts to hit?

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

I didn't get the season pass either. If it included more single player content and fewer maps and multiplayer characters, I probably would've gone for it. I'm only in it for the story mode and the Horde mode, and I'm happy with the number of on-the-disc Horde maps.

Raam's Shadow is quite good, and you never know the 4th DLC pack could be more campaign content.

With only 3 games attempting it, yeah, it's still a relatively new concept. Also, isn't Gears the highest profile title to try it? Seems more on par with Halo if they are looking to try it out on H4.

$30 is a lot to ask for a "promise" though.

I don't know if those are the only three that have done it, just the ones I have experience with.

Again, you're overlooking that Gears 2 did a bundle, it was just after they were all released so this isn't really even new ground for the franchise, let alone gaming in general. Call of Duty has done this before as well, right?

Re: Official Gears of War 3 thread

It just seems to me if you sell someone something with the idea that it is a better deal by bundling it...and you lower the price of that deal before you even deliver all the content...you are just teaching your customer to wait the next time you do this..

I think most people are perfectly ok with price drops after a product comes out...I also think it would have made more sense to lower the price of the individual....already available...dlc and not the season pass...
