Got mine today. Paid $45 a while ago for it from gamestop.com. It's about what you'd expect, more or less: fun for rap fans, good party game. I like it a lot so far. I just don't see it doing that well in this crowded holiday season, so I would expect it to drop in price sooner than later.

Since you have it and I'm not really familiar with the singstar franchise - does the original music video play while you rap?

Yes, it plays the original video. You can choose to hear the original vocals or turn them off. On some of the songs I know very well, I find the vocals distracting, so I turn them off for those songs. Also, these are the full videos - some of them have lengthy intros before you get to the actual song - you can skip to a point right before the lyrics begin. "Fight the Power" has like a 2 minute intro before the song starts.

I can't find anyplace to rent it locally. We have Blockbuster and Family Video locally, and neither one have it. I got Blockbuster to ship directly to me though their Direct Access program before (No More Heroes 2), but the CSR couldn't even find Def Jam Rapstar in their system.

All the Redbox(es) near me rent video games. I'm hoping it shows up there (though I might just buy it in the B2G1 sale)

I just found out Rapstar only comes bundled with a mic. Are you freaking kidding me? Do you know how many mics I have? I keep selling them on ebay, but it's still frustrating to pay more for microphones I don't need.

The mics are the same Logitech USB mics that konami always bundles with their singing games.

It's a weird combo of:

1) clean version of the song when possible
2) or just editting the words out and having it show __________ when there's something objectionable

in cases where the swear words are just editted out, you can simply say them and you don't get penalized. So in "Gin and Juice" you can say "Rollin' down the street, smokin' Indo" while the lyrics read "Rollin' down the street, smokin' smokin'"

and, as usual, there's no real rhyme (no pun intended) or reason for what is allowed or not. Bitches are out, Hoes are in. Sometimes guns are out, sometimes they're in.
