I think it's safe to assume gaming will give up OldBoy, long before OldBoy will give up gaming. Either that or he's opening a video game rental.

bc from the 2hrs i played, exploring, killing bosses, i loved everything about it and it was in no way "souls" like as i believe them to be. i guessed you missed this part..."It’s not quite a full Soulslike though. Death feels much less punishing, and the combat system is a lot flashier than the genre usually provides. It feels like Shift Up wanted to dip their toes into the genre without fully committing to it. It’s a Souls-lite then. And as someone who was looking forward to Stellar Blade but also has previously never been able to get into that genre, I think they got the balance exactly where I like it."

Actually, played it again and it’s just gorgeous and the combat intuitive. Of course, it’s about blocking and parrying, but this makes it so easy. I can’t wait till full game.

Over/under on how far into the game before you reach a boss that's a little too "soulslike" for you and you move on to something else?

All he's gotta do is try the Boss Challenge that unlocks after beating the demo. That should give him a fair idea of what to expect farther down in the game.
