The controls aren't THAT bad. I got used to them somewhat quickly and they felt natural. At first it's a bit of a shock, but that went away.

Giantbomb is doing dueling endurance runs through the game. If you're even slightly curious about how totally insane this game is but still aren't into buying it, check out the vids.

Shane Bettenhousen was on a podcast this week, and they had a great discussion about this game...I just can't recall for the life of me which podcast it was. As I recall, they said that there were a couple of things you could do to alleviate frustration in the game including a mission early on that gets you an unlimited ammo SMG.
I know it wasn't 1up, and I'm thinking it was either the Gamespot Hotspot or the Game Informer Podcast.

If you think of it, let me know. I'd like to listen.
I forget how you trigger that mission, but it's in a tunnel, and you basically just go back and forth through two rooms killing enemies and eventually are rewarded with the weapon. Takes about 100 shots with the thing to kill someone though.

This game is the Amazon Deal of the Day. $15.
I think I can wait for $10, this should be $10 in a couple of months, right?

I just finished Episode 1 over the weekend. The game has really grown on me. That whistling song will get stuck in your head like nobody's business, though - be warned.

And it's bad whistling at that! But yeah..it totally does. I'm not proud I tracked down MP3s of all the tracks in the game.

How about some 8-bit whistling?

Wow, that's a great 8-bit remix of my favorite song. I love the retro vibe...don't you, Zach? Reminds me of a game I played when I was younger...it featured an Italian plumber in a surreal world of mushrooms, turtles, and giant pipes. That's right, Zach, it's Super Mario Bros., released in 1985. Of course, Mario went on to star in dozens of games later on, but that first game still holds a special place in my heart. Maybe after we solve this case, we'll hook up our NES and play that game together. What do you say, Zach?

This morning, my love for Deadly Premonition turned into loathing. I hit a game-breaking glitch in Chapter 9, losing 10 hours of progress.

I don't think I have the heart to replay all of that. I'm considering just reading a plot summary to see what happens.

If I skip all the dialogue and optional stuff, I might be able to get back to the point I was at fairly quickly. It's just extremely frustrating to hit a game-breaking glitch in this day and age.

Walk away from it for a week. Listen to the soundtrack. Then come back, blow through what you've already done and skip the dialogue stuff you've already seen.

I think I'm like an abused spouse now. I just can't stay mad at Agent Francis York Morgan, even when he kicks me in the balls. I think if I skip the dialogue and the optional fighting, I can blow through it pretty quick.
The irony is that I was replaying earlier chapters to get the radio in order to fast-travel and save time, and that's what caused the glitch. So...I guess I didn't really save much time with that strategy after all.

Really makes you think, doesn't it, Zach? Maybe we should take it easy and stop to smell the flowers.
