To keep you salivating in the meantime CivRev (if you don't have it already) is free right now for the iPhone and iTouch (not the iPad though) on the Apple App store. hooray!

A digital copy of the manual in .pdf form is available for downloading off the main Civilization site.

It is 233 pages.

More reviews

Joystiq gives Civ V a 5 out of 5.

Gameinformer gives Civ V a 9.75 out of 10.

Destructoid gives Civ V a 9.5 out of 10.

Here I was worried about Civ V getting the Civ Rev "dumbed down" treatment with the talk about how religion and other features were cut out and such. Five reviews so far, and they have all given great reviews.

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

In spite of the fact that it's not playable for at least another eight hours, I've been checking my Steam account every hour like an idiot just in case my preload suddenly starts working.

ME2, SC2, and now Civ5 with a new Fallout yet to come. What a banner year for landmark games.

I'm glad it isn't available yet. My boss is out of town all week, so I'm going to have a hard enough time staying at work, yet alone if it was out already, I'd never even make it into the office!

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

Been playing for about thirty minutes and just had a freeze/crash. Hope this isn't too common.

Otherwise it seems good so far, really taxing my comp though...

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

I'm hoping I don't have issues. Will it not scale down reasonably well? The graphics aren't important at all to me.

Well above the minimum. And just froze again....

I'm noticing that when it freezes and I start task manager to close it, it looks like the opening cinema is still open in the background? Don't know how else to describe it. Just looks like the cinema on pause.

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

A few of the reviews have mentioned there is an error that is causing it to lock up/crash some. Supposedly they are already bug hunting it to patch it.

Hrm... I'm running a dual core 2.0 ghz, Vista, 2 gigs of RAM, and I believe the same graphics card (the 8600 GTS)... Hopefully I don't have too many issues.

Mine arrived from Amazon with a few extra maps as a preorder bonus. No idea what these are...

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

It keeps saying the game is unavailable and won't run. WTF?

Seriously aggravating.

Re: OMFG Civilization V is Coming Fall 2010

I FUCKING HATE STEAM!!!!!

Stupid Steam won't recognize my password and won't let me reset it. WTF!? And of course, without Steam, I can't install the game. I'm so glad I left work early to play.

Probably.

I buy all my games through Steam anymore, especially since a lot of those highly restrictive DRMs aren't in the Steam digital copies. Even with the box copy of Civ V, it still has to be validated and run through Steam.

i had a few box games until late last year. my son lost a bunch of discs and others got lost with me taking them to work to play at lunch.

i've been buying through STEAM and it's awesome. no need to carry any more discs around. and games tend to launch faster since there is no loading from the optical drive

I can't remember a PC game that needed the disc in the drive for anything other than authentication in a long time. And even that has been few and far between...

Is it just me or is this game really buggy?
