Re: Post your 1st FPS you ever played.

Man, I used to be such an id fanboy back in the day.

I remember getting the early Episode 1 of Quake back in the day after playing Wolf, Doom, Doom II, Heretic and Hexen WAY TOO MUCH and just being absolutely blown away. It also didn't help my obsession that I was a HUGE Nine Inch Nails fan back then and it was a combo made in Heaven to me.

When I get my house we've already declared that the housewarming will be a HUGE Q3 LAN party.

Wolfenstein 3D for me. Add me to the list of folks who are huge on NOLF (although I thought 2 was better than 1) Monolith could do no wrong for a long stretch.

Re: Post your 1st FPS you ever played.

Wolfenstein 3D here for me too. Followed by other iD games like others here with Doom, Doom 2, Hexen, Heretic. I also played stuff like Rise of the Triad, and then Build Engine games like Duke 3D and Shadow Warrior (which really needs a comeback!). Then on to stuff like Quake and Quake 2.

Been a FPS guy on the PC for awhile which made Goldeneye and eventually Halo fairly plain and unremarkable to me.

Same here. I have always been a hardcore PC gamer and just an occasional console gamer. In fact I don't even own any of the current gen consoles.

It always makes me chuckle inside when I see people talk about how awesome and revolutionary Goldeneye and Halo were. They may have been revolutionary for consoles, but they didn't do anything that hadn't already been done and done better on PC FPS games.

I remember playing Doom on my friend's computer, but it wasn't until Goldeneye on N64 that I was hooked on them.

I think I had a Genesis before I had access to a PC....so mine was

Zero Tolerance

Followed closely, of course, by Doom, Heretic, and ROTT.

Was Rise of the Triad the one with the "LSD" cheat?

I personally thought that Duke 3D was the only decent competitor to the id catalog back then.

Surprise surprise...Wolf3D!! After that is was the usual suspects of DOOM, Rise of the Triad (loved going into DOG mode!), Duke Nukem etc.

FPS's have stayed my favorite genre of pc/console games.

I got REALLY sick of them after Quake II.. and actually didn't "get into" Quake III as much as I am now until several years later. I JUST played Half-Life 1 a couple of years ago, which I enjoyed. Other than that, Portal and Left 4 Dead are probably the only ones that have interested me. I've been meaning to play through Half-Life 2 eventually and I'd LOVE Team Fortress 2 if it wasn't so damn unfriendly to people that don't play it every damn day.

I'm not a huge FPS fan either. Doom, Heretic, Duke 3d - played co-op on LAN. Quake III Arena single player on DC. L4D, Halo 3 and Borderlands local co-op and single player. Bioshock. I liked the atmosphere and energy of TF2, but I didn't play every day and so everyone else who played tromped all over me. I got stuck somewhere on HL2 and haven't gotten back to it.

Dur, I forgot about Bioshock, I thought that was great.

And I stopped Half-Life 2 right after I got the gravity gun, I need to go back to it.

I'm sure I played one before Goldeneye, but that's the one that sticks out in my mind.

Oh, I get it, because I only like obscure games like Metroid Prime and Kingdom Hearts.

Re: Post your 1st FPS you ever played.

I've played TF2 off and on since it came out on PC and never got the feeling that the learning curve was steep or that people were particularly unfriendly, at least compared to your Halo players or Counter-Stike players. Once you understand what each class done, i always thought it was pretty simple. Maybe that's just me...

Re: Post your 1st FPS you ever played.

I've never been a PC gamer, so I'm thinking Goldeneye. I'm sure I tried one or two others before that, but I played Goldeneye all the way through. Then it was the Metroid Prime games.

Honestly, I really haven't really gotten into FPS (with the above exceptions) until the current gen with HL2, Portal, Bioshock and now Borderlands.
