Oh come on, you can't expect them to warranty it forever. I think 3 years is more than reasonable.

Fair enough. Anyone (including myself) who has a 30, 60 or 80 GB model fail now can't complain about it since it's over three years.

My 360 died in just over two, FWIW.

I felt kinda dumb upgrading both consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360, to their slim versions, but after reading about all the issues I guess it wasn't that bad. Besides, thoses GameStop promos were really good.

Planned obsolescence. Probably why this generation of consoles has lasted as long as it has. Sony may not be breaking even with each console, but when each person buys multiple consoles, it kinda makes up for it.

So I got my new PS3 slim set up and there is a constant buzzing that sounds like an electric razor that never goes away. While it's better than my fat 80gb that sounded like a leaf blower after being on for more than fifteen minutes, this silm is far from whisper quiet. Is this how they are supposed to sound? I don't want to deal with another broken system any time soon.

It's a fat 160 Gb. I'm trying to decide if I should just bite the bullet and get a slim as well.

That's not normal. Exchange it. It should be almost silent.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Shit's about to get real up in Europe: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/28/ps...ary-injunctio/

The struggle between hardware manufacturing juggernauts Sony and LG -- the latter of which claims that the PS3 infringes on a number of its patents relating to Blu-ray technology -- has finally drawn some blood. The civil court of justice in the Hague has granted LG a preliminary injunction for customs to seize and confiscate all PS3s coming into Europe (from manufacturing plants, etc.) for up to ten days. The Guardian reports that the collected consoles are temporarily being kept in Dutch warehouses until the case moves forward.

According to the Guardian, retailers are expected to have enough PS3s to last two to three weeks. Sony has the right to file an appeal to the patents office -- but far more than some boxed-up consoles collecting dust is on the line. Should the court ultimately rule in favor of LG, the console maker would be forced to compensate the company for every single PS3 sold around the world. We've contacted Sony for a comment.

Wow. I Didn't know LG had a beef against the PS3.

I made a quick stop at Wal-Mart yesterday and didn't see a single Blu with Vudu copies listed on the box. Which ones have this? It would be a nice feature to know about. Do they list the Vudu copy on the packaging?

My 360 was freezing up and occasionally having disc read errors, I called within the 3 year period and they wanted to charge me $120 to fix it since the 3 year warranty was ONLY for RROD so I decided to hold off. Then low and behold it RROD like 1 months outside the 3 year period.

Not saying I expect them to warranty it forever, but Microsoft has screwed over a fair number of consumers with their warranty practices as well.

Will LG be held financially responsible if their suit turns out to be fruitless and costs Sony money for loss of sales? I sure hope so.

I'm over 4 with mine so yeah I'm not complaining too much if it breaks. Well, I wish the repair cost was lower, but that is about it. I'll live.

Well, I don't keep up with release announcements, but I was pleasantly surprised yesterday that Vagrant Story (PS1) showed up on PSN. So Square Enix has released Xenogears and Vagrant Story, what's next?

Does anyone know when new items are released on PSN?

The new Mortal Kombat demo is dropping for PSN Plus users on March 8th. Does that mean it'll be up for download as soon as Midnight hits on Monday?

Hell no. They update the store later in the day on Tuesday. I think the time varies, but it's in the late afternoon or even the early evening.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've never wanted to try out a demo this much, so I never bothered to ask before

I can't read the linked page due to workplace filters, but the official PlayStation Twitter account just posted this:

"Online storage for game saves coming exclusively to PlayStation Plus subscribers tomorrow"

It links to: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...storage_030911

Awesome. I wish the 360 would do something similar.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Hey everyone – We’ve got an exciting new feature coming exclusively to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Included in the system software update (v3.60) coming tomorrow to PS3, PlayStation Network’s new online storage for game saves feature gives PlayStation Plus subscribers the capability to back up game save data to the cloud. Online storage for game saves is a great way for PlayStation Plus subscribers to ensure that their data files are secure and also for users who wish to access their files from other PS3 systems.

The new online storage feature allows gamers to store up to 150MB of game save data and a maximum of 1000 data files per PSN account. Users also have the ability to back-up “copy-prohibited save data,” and all previously saved data may be restored once per 24 hour period. When the new feature launches, most PS3 titles will be compatible with online storage for game saves, and moving forward, all new titles will have the capability to offer the storage option.

As I mentioned before, online storage for game saves functionality is included automatically for PlayStation Plus subscribers with system software update (v3.60), which will be available on March 10, 2011, and users can access their stored data on the XMB at any time. Additionally, users who save their files to the cloud can access their data on any PS3, using their PSN sign-in ID.

PlayStation Plus subscribers should turn on the auto-download feature to ensure that the update will begin downloading as soon as it’s available, so you can start backing up your game saves right away. If you aren’t already a PlayStation Plus subscriber, be sure to check out our bi-weekly post highlighting the free games, discounts and exciting exclusives we offer, in addition to the upcoming online storage for game saves feature.

Other minor features will also be added via system software update (v3.60). For more information please visit http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/ once the update is live.

to cloud saves. I'm wondering if this is somehow related to Sony's new relationship with Steam?

Thanks, pinata. Sounds completely awesome. Given how frequently 360s fail, MS really should follow suit.
