Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

It turns out update 3.21 isn't a joke. It didn't let me play online 'til I updated today.

The user agreement did mention an addition. Something about being able to now watch some content restricted videos on the media server. Sorry, I don't recall the exact wording. However, the major change is the removal of the "install other OS" feature.

Also it mentions you can't get future updates (or play games that require newer updates) unless you get this update. So no 3D update for you if you don't get this one first.

^^^ Any idea when the 3D update is coming? The wife gave me permission to get a 3D TV but I'm not going to waste the cash on a 3D blu-ray with two PS3's already in the house.

Last I read, the 3D update is slated to come out sometimes during July.

Past two blu-rays I've watched have skipped pretty heavily. The discs themselves don't seem scratched, even though the skips (at least on one) were reproducible. Always skipped in the same place.

Is this the beginning of the end? Or two bad netflix blu-rays in a row?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Hoping someone can help me out. Maybe I'm missing some obvious.

I recently bought an 8 GB USB stick with the intention of moving some of the saved videos/photos/music I have on my PS3 back to my computer. When I try to copy a file from the PS3 to the usb drive, it gives me the error message, "This USB device is locked." I just removed the item from the package and have not done anything to lock it. It appears to work fine in my computer and I am able to move photos to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it formatted NTFS or FAT32?

If it's skipping in the same spot it's the disc and not the player.

I've had that happen before too, and upon really close inspection (looking on the disc corresponding to where the skip would occur), there would be a slight flaw in the disc underneath the blu-ray coating, which obviously happened during manufacturing.

Fat32, I believe. When I connect to my computer (macbook pro) and click "get info," it says fat32. Not sure how to reformat if I need to.

FAT32 is what you want.

Is there a physical lock on the thumb drive (like on an ipod, slide to lock/unlock)? Another possibility is if the pre-loaded security software on the thumb drive is somehow preventing the PS3 accessing it. Does the thumb drive have a password? Or is there an administrative-privileges thing for write-protection?

You could always do a clean format and try again.

Interesting. It just freaked me out because it was two blu-rays in a row. I'm gonna watch another one today, so I'll see how that one works out. Thanks.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

So I visited my cousin today and found out that her 5 month old PS3 Slim died. She's already sent it out to be repaired and that'll be free because it's under warranty. What's funny though is the reason they gave her as to why her PS3 Slim died.

When she called customer service and explained her situation which is that the PS3 stays on for a few minutes and then shuts down automatically. The rep asked her how often she watches Blu-ray movies on her PS3 Slim. She said never because she only uses it for gaming. The rep was apparently shocked and went into a totally unhelpful Blu-ray sales pitch.

Once he was done with that, he asked her how often she games on her PS3. She told him that she only plays games for an hour on Fridays and Saturdays exclusive. The rep told her that it's likely that there's a short on the fan of her PS3 Slim that is causing the unit to overheat. Finally, he said the reason for the short was due to her not using her PS3 Slim enough (and apparently he was being quite serious).

You see, if you don't satiate the hunger of the ps3 by feeding it blurays or games on a regular basis it will become angered and get quite moody. Remember kids, keep your ps3 happy and feed it many games and blurays NOM NOM NOM

I quit after the first episode. The prize isn't that compelling and the challenges in the previews seem lame. It felt like a VH1 reality show without the cheesy entertainment value.

I didn't even bother with the first episode. Looked awful, even for "reality" tv...

To be honest, I only watched the first episode because it was free and I had nothing better to do. I t was so boring I never bothered with the other free episodes.

Of course it was a VH1 type show.

Hal Sparks is one of the judges. How else do you think he gets a paycheck?

To be honest, it probably would have been far more entertaining had it been a full on VH1 style reality show.

Looks like the latest Ratchet and Clank's MSRP is down to $40, so starting to see a decent price on this one. I'll wait for it to drop a bit more I think. My backlog is way to big at the moment...

Wow, that didn't take long. Didn't Tools of Destruction hold its high SRP until Crack in Time came out? I just finished CiT a few weeks ago. Awesome game. Overall, I think it's better than Tools, but the weapons in Tools were more fun.

Yeah, I saw that. Looking forward to see it drop more so I can finally get it.
