re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
My Elite has been acting up and will turn on for a couple minutes then the fans start growing louder then it shuts off and gives me 2 red rings (overheating).
Its out of warranty so I'm debating between attempting to fix it myself or just going out and buying a new S model this weekend with the sales that are going on. Does anyone here have thoughts or experience with the 2 rings as I am getting now? |

Do they have your CC info? If so they could charge you for the replacement if you don't return one.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
I'd return the old one. You made the choice to contact them about the issue and they, in good faith, went ahead and sent a new one. If you hadn't thought of not sending it, you would be praising MS for their kick-ass customer service on this situation. Too many people bitch and complain about different companies' customer service so since a company treated you right this time, I would say you should do the right thing too.

Why is it $9 shipping anyway?

There should be no reason it costs 9$ to ship. Go UPS ground then. I shipped a huge 15 lb box for the same price.

My back up plan is getting the Target deal. If neither of those are available I guess Best Buy pack it is. I have friends that can borrow the lego games. Any idea when these will go live? I keep refreshing every hour to see if they're up yet. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
My 360 is freezing up on Borderlands. I thought it might just have been because of the Claptrap addon, but it freezes up on different characters in the main game, too. I've played through an hour of Bloodbowl, but that isn't heavy on the graphics. I'm going to give Gears of War a try and see if it freezes on it.
Could the freezing be an impending sign of failure? The 3-year warranty is up in two weeks. Should I try to force a red ring failure and send for an RMA? |

What do you guys think the chances are that Microsoft will start bundling the new controllers in with the systems at some point? Or will they always be a separate item, do you think?

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Update on the Saga of the Squeaky Controller : Microsoft CS called my house this morning to check if the new controller was working okay. I told them the truth : I've yet to open it. I told them about how when I tried to mail the old one, the shipping rate was too high and I just had decided to keep the squeaker instead, and how I got the new one in the mail anyway. I told them I'm happy to send the old one back, but would like a prepaid shipping label if possible (but I would send it back regardless). She put me on hold to check with a supervisor. Then she came on the phone after a couple of minutes and told me not to bother and just keep it as a spare. What amazing Customer Service!

 They'd rather give you a $65 product than a $5 shipping label? Awesome.

They also flagged his account so if he ever red rings they will be sure to put a little turd inside the case of the replacement.

Glad to hear all was handled so well. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
For those of you who got the new color-less controller, what color was your rechargeable battery pack?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Black.
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
black - aren't they all?
Also, the rechargeable pack can't seem to hold it's charge for shit, and it seems to only charge when plugged into a 360 with the power on, effectively becoming worthless. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
No issues with mine. Call and get a replacement like Decker.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Does the new controller come with a battery shell for your own AA batteries?
|
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Knowing some of the people around here, I bet you Microsoft has gotten a ton of squeaky stick calls in the past few days.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Okay, thanks. Mine's black, but I think it looks really bad. I assumed that someone had switched it out or something to get the silver back for their Halo controllers.
Also, slop, I have that issue with another battery pack of mine, and I have to use the Quick Charge kit to give it a full charge. Doing the Play and Charge thing to it doesn't charge it for some reason. I had read about that issue online previously and discovered the Quick Charge kit solution. However, I'm sure other people opted for the rechargeable AAs solution that's cheaper than a quick charge kit. |

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Are you guys using the cable that came with the new controller or an older one? That could be an issue as well. The battery is new and charges faster (supposedly anyway). Maybe the old cable is affecting performance.
