MC,
how do you like the new controller?

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

I can't tell if the new dpad is any good or not yet, it feels entirely cosmetic, it's probably just a placebo.

But, whatever, the controller design is pretty sexy, so no regrets.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Just used it in Halo last night, so no thoughts on the d-pad yet, but it does seem more responsive in menus, but it could be a placebo thing. I miss the nubs on the analog, but I do like the more defined concave groove. I didn't notice a difference in the bumpers or triggers while playing, but the bumpers do feel more "clicky" than "mushy" when just comparing a couple different controllers.

Texture-wise it's about on par with the solid color controllers, but not as smooth as the red/graphite one that I prefer. It's not a deal-breaker though. Thankfully it's not rough like the Reach controllers.

I LOVE the monochrome. So yeah, no regrets.

Looks like Fed Ex won't send mine back to the office until tomorrow. It's in time-out apparently.

Did anyone try the dashboard update today? Do the avatar clothes work yet? I'm so freaking tired of seeing that moving clothesline and cat on a skateboard. All I want is unrestricted access to my freaking virtual wardrobe!

I updated my avatar stuff last through the dashboard week. Looks like it's all working to me.

Just did the update. Looks like they're also trying to match the look of Windows Phone 7.

Well I downloaded the update but I am having trouble downloading the netflix and espn updates. I actually already downloaded the espn update, then tried to access it and it wants me to download it again. Brilliant!!

Oh quityerbitchin', I can't even tell you how many minutes I spent waiting for either a dashboard update, espn, netflix, last.fm, or other update during the awesome <s>Preview</s> Beta period.

It'll die down when demand does too. Is there anything on ESPN3 you need to watch right now?

Through the website I think everything but my Pinball FX2 shirt works. On the console I can't access my Charlie Brown shirt, Cartman hat, and the robot head from Risk.

Since the web site update I noticed 75% of the Muppet avatar stuff is gone. That goes for in dash as well. I was considering the Kermit. The only prop left is Animal's drums.

I really don't like the new look. Is there a way to make it more 3d again, or are we stuck with this new kinect friendly view?

That is the new look. There are not options to change. Don't worry..you'll get use to it.

Over the weekend I was at both my brothers' houses to give them free Doors songs for if/when they buy RB3 and I was so saddened by seeing the old dashboard.

Yes, you will get used to it, but that doesn't make it right

Yeah, I didn't until then. Now won't be an issue. Unless I never put my secondary xbox online. Hmmm...

Yeah, it's not like I'll stop using it. Maybe I just need to change my theme, then it won't seem so different. :)

Doesn't anyone else think there's way too much white going on? It's blinding.

Yeah..I totally did at first. Once I put up a background it was much easier to deal with. I'm really ok with it now.

I agree that a theme made things look a good bit better. Alan Wake theme from OXM for me!

It's a step backwards, really. The old 3D pages looked so much nicer - and things don't even come up any quicker than before. I actually still miss the blades from the first dashboard.

And it's kinda broken too - I tried to buy the new Red Dead DLC, and it wouldn't let me - it just kept trying to load the buy screen to no avail.

At least I have my old Fallout3 theme - I can't imagine more white.

Since I had a custom wallpaper already up, the shift only really felt like they rotated everything 45 degrees to the flat, cross-bar layout. It's fine; I liked the 3D flow a bit more, but it's no skin off my teeth and certainly not unappealing. I do like the new toggle sound effects, and the new lighter interface palette suits me just fine.

I have had the Dashboard for a while since I was in the preview program, but ever since I upgraded Netflix instant queue has been messed up. I cant scroll through my queue. It moves always back to what ever movie is in #70 spot. Then if i try scrolling from there it takes me back to #70. Anyone else have this problem?

i do think the responsiveness of the Dashboard is slower after the update when scrolling through the menus and options. things seem to take an extra second or two now and is a little frustrating.

Really? I have a couple hundred things in mine. A decent handful of those are for the little one. In the mornings when there isn't school she likes to watch cartoons on Netflix.

Same, but my kids are older and their shows are in "seasons" and not a series of small collections of episodes or one-offs.

Hell, I even share with my neighbors and all told we only have 39 things in there, many of which I just haven't deleted yet!

 I have seasons for her as well... just seasons of cartoons and various shows like Witches at Waverly (or somesuch).

FYI, don't let any of the younger kids see some new show on their about funny animal videos. It is basically America's Funniest Home Videos but all animals. The daughter loves the cute cats and dogs... I want to stab myself after hearing the host making these terrible puns and lame commentary.

Gotta say that the new ESPN add-on is fucking awesome.

But why the hell can't my Netflix queue wrap around? The PS3 version of looking thru your queue is miles better than the Xbox version.

I'm gonna hate to update the new dash. I really like the current one and really wish MS would let us choose a Dashboard instead of being stuck with only one choice :(

the Undead Nightmare theme from RDR and Batman: Arkham Villians theme make things look much more pleasing on Dashboard.

I thought it was funny that they don't want me to open it because I might get banned (I wouldn't) as opposed to them getting a fine for breaking street date. I wonder if since I'm in the beta dashboard if it could load and not lock down the system as reported by other users.

Since you got this early, is the black and red tiger code and the plush code from the LE just a tag that you scan or is there actually a 360 code that you need to redeem?

I haven't opened the package yet because I don't want to get banned.

However, I do know that the plush code is a tag that you scan. I'm not sure about the black and red tiger pre-order bonus.

I dislike the new update a bit as well. A beta between the last one and this one would of been a nice compromise.

I swear to god, every single time I put in a game, I have to update. It doesn't matter if I switch back and forth from Gears of War 2 to Rock Band 3 - there's an update. Did they reduce the storage allocated to patches to be just 5mb or something?

OldBoy 11-03-10 04:19 AM

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

i don't think there is, but is there anyway to get rid of some of the menus? i know i can get rid of the "Welcome" menu tabs, but can you customize for the rest to reduce them all?

I noticed that too. It was happening to me prior to the new dashboard update, so I don't know what changed. It never used to do this before.

Welcome to my world, I've had this problem for about a year now. Total pain in the ass. Especially as of the new dashboard update, patches seem to take way longer to download. Hopefully at least that improves.
