Kinect Review Embargo is apparently a red flag according to this outlet.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=118111

You gotta wonder why they wouldn't want to send out review copies. I think Dance Central has the potential to be the Rock Band successful if it truly works.

I take exception to this final paragraph:

Typically its a very bad sign when publishers do this as it means that there is something wrong and the company wants to rely on ignorance and marketing rather than letting the public find out early. I am not saying this is the case for the Kinect, but it is very concerning nevertheless.
Now the Kinect may or may not suck. And it's fair to note that Sony was more than generous with the Move hardware and games and allowed advanced review after 9/1, almost a month before launch. But it's not always a bad sign that there are no advance reviews. Activision won't allow any advance reviews for any games, including CoD MW2 and Starcraft II, both turned out ok and raised no concerns.

Though Kinect is a brand new thing that is a question mark in the mind of many people. CoD:MW2 and Starcraft II were both huge established IPs that everyone fully expected to do well. Blizzard's marketing campaign could have consisted of them just saying "Starcraft II. 10 years after Starcraft. Give us money bitches." and it still would have sold.

Kinect doesn't have that kind of hope.

As I said, it might raise a few eyebrows to not have any advanced reviews, but for a game site to claim that it's usually a bad sign when a publisher won't allow early reviews is disingenuous and irresponsible. In movies that is the case. In game marketing, it's becoming standard operating procedure.

I have to agree. This is exactly the type of product that would benefit from early positive reviews unless the product ain't so good. Plus it costs a shitload and most people wont take a chance unless there are some reviews out there even if thwy are mediocre.

Compare apples to apples. Kinect is a 1st party hardware product. Compare it to how other companies (Sony and Nintendo) deal with their releasing of new hardware products. Activision is software and that is treated differently.

Historically, when Microsoft clamps down on hardware pre-launch information the result is an underwhelming product. Origami and Kin are two examples that come to mind.

Given the economic climate with consumers being more discerning how they spend their holiday season dollars and the increased number of devices vying for that dollar, it makes no sense that Microsoft would keep a tight lid on something that is so exciting. Unless it isn't so exciting.

Did anyone get this email offer today:

I was wondering if it was legit. For whatever reason my gut thinks it's a scam, even though it's only 100 points. lol

One of the e bay deal of the day items today is the new 360 controller (sold through buy.com)

Thought it was pretty cool since it's not even released yet and it's almost $15 cheaper than Amazon right now

I'm just wondering what kind of texture the paint has. I love the look of the Reach controllers, but hate the texture. I'm wondering if this silver has that same rough feel.

I just grabbed one and was about to post it here.

I already have four 360 controllers (and two joysticks) so I'm not sure why I bit but I do like the promise of a working dpad and the color scheme is ace.

Have they confirmed this is the upgraded Euro d-pad underneath and not just a gimmick overtop of the same controller guts we've had since launch?

I have no idea and I am slightly worried about that, to be honest.

Unfortunately, the Euro dpad was only on ONE controller that was a limited edition.

Thanks

$47.99, Gooter.

Like you I already have 4 pads but ordered one anyway. I love the monochrome look, plus my right analog on my red/graphite Gamestop controller seems loose lately.

I have a great indie shop that gives incredible store credit, so I think I can just drop one of my old ones off there to get a points card or a few NES games.

Also, this is like, almost two weeks before its official release date.

But, shipping will mean we'll get them around or after that anyway.

I absolutely don't need another controller.
But I bought that one anyway. Curses for having such a good price. If my son gets that new one all sticky like he did with my original white ones, I'm dropping him off at an orphanage.

They've been known to sell out of those Buy.com Deal Of The Day promo items pretty quick.
I had to laugh when a $39.99 Xbox Live 12 Month card was on sale just a day after the new pricing was announced. You'd have thought they were free lifetime subscriptions the way they sold out in less than an hour.

Yeah that happened to me today. 1st e-mail said my renewal was cancelled and then they said they renewed my account and it will go into effect June 2011. I already have an active account that doesn't expire until June 2011. I bought one of the X-Box Live Renewal cards this past summer when my account was close to expiring and already renewed.

If they charged my account $49.99 for a renewal, can I just go ahead and cancel it? I don't need to be renewed for 2 years.

Might be better for fighting games, 2D platformers, Arcade games (like the upcoming Pac Man CE reboot). Also useful for games that use the D-Pad as an auto-select for weapons and such (like a game series called Halo, which you might be familiar with).
