360 warranties are transferable, so even if someone registered the console, it is under warranty from MS.

Thanks for the info! That's very good to know. So does the warranty simply follow the console or does the original owner have to do anything?

Follows the console.

Cool. Thanks again.

Here's another question. I haven't decided if I want to transfer all my licenses to the new console I'm getting as I may get a different console at the end of the year (if there is a holiday/kinect bundle for cheap.) But I'm also planning on selling my current arcade unit. Do I have to have my original in possession to do the license transfer? My assumption is no, but I just wanted to double-check.

That's correct. You do it online with your gamertag and your new unit's SN. But be sure to wipe the on-board memory from your Arcade unit before you sell it.

I don't know if I'm doing this right but there's a free Halo Reach Premium Invasion theme. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/ga...of=5&bt=0&sb=1

Again, the invasion one, not the other. It's not free for long. Also, it says it's 240 points, but when you click through it says Free.

Thanks. Worked for me (well, in IE, xbox.com + Chrome give me problems).

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Thanks. I was sorta expecting a free premium theme as part of the Halo countdown promotion. As late as last night both themes were still 240 points. Maybe this is today's deal.

Looks like MS will be selling 1 year subs for $29.99 on the Dashboard starting the 17th. And you get the Halo Reach Noble Helmet for your Avatar when you order.

There's an offer on my dashboard right now. $29.99 for a year of Gold. Card is charged when current subscription expires. Turns on Auto-Renew for the then current price following that year.

I'm good for the next 2.5 years so I wonder if I do it how that will work (since there is a 3 year cap)

tlwizard 09-14-10 02:21 PM

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Oh yeah, and you get a free Halo Reach Noble 6 avatar helmet with purchase.

appears that way.

I'm in the same boat. I signed up anyway. Here's part of the email confirmation:

This mail is confirmation that you have successfully renewed your subscription to 12 Months of Gold for 40% off. This renewal goes into effect on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
So I guess I'm good through June 2013.

Oh and a heads up about transferring content to new consoles, apparently game installs are protected by the same same ridiculous DRM restrictions as all other content. They are tied to the console you installed them to originally.

I haven't seen it mentioned before(so sorry if it was), but even though the game installs transfer in the transfer process, if you go to play that game on the new system it plays off the DVD even though the game install is on the hard drive. i.e. you have delete those installs and then re-install all your games.

once you do this $29.99 deal and auto-renew activates, can you turn it off right away and still get deal and charged only when current expires? thanks.

xmiyux 09-14-10 05:10 PM

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines

Auto-renew only activates if it is needed. So if you get cheaper cards and keep yourself "stocked up" then it will never auto-renew. I have had my auto-renew flagged as on for like 6 years now and it has only auto-renewed twice.

And that was because I forgot to add a card in time.

thanks x. nice deal.

my dashboard said if i log-out and back in again i will see the changes in membership take place. i did so, but do not see an updated end date. i got the confirmation e-mail and all. am i not supposed to see the new date until the current expires?

Looks like I was slightly off on that. Installed games don't transfer because they are tied to the console they were installed to. Therefore, you simply have to re-install them all on the new console.

Ask @XboxSupport. They're awesome (when they care what you have to ask).

is this new date reflected in your dashboard membership profile when you turn on 360?

I think the original date is reflected and then under your renewal option it states 40% off something or another. Since it doesn't charge your card until your current sub expires, I believe you have to leave your card attached and auto-renew on.

Anyone had problems with Facebook on XBox? Redownloaded it and tried to logon but keep getting an invalid message, despite using the same login I do for the website normally.

I cannot do the XBOX Live Account on LIVE. I see the 40% off, but when I click it I get some error. I wonder if it is because I have over a year left on my sub (I think).

I had two years left on my sub and it let me re-up at the $30 price, along with a couple others above.

You guys see the announcement at TGS about a new Steel Battalion coming to the 360 and being Kinect controlled? I'm officially intrigued. I really wanted to play the original Steel Battalion with the awesome controller and never had the chance.

I have the controller and never used it. :( Should have sold it when it had value.

Is there a way to rip MP3s from a CD or DVD onto my 360 HD? Or does it have to be in regular audio CD format to be able to rip?

Nope, no way. Regular audio CD rip is the only way.

You can plug an mp3 player through the 360's usb and play the audio files that way, but no ripping.

I continaully have a problem where I cannot connect to one of my friends on XBL. Both of us have open NATs and we have no problem playing in groups. However, whenever we attempt to connect 1v1 it won't work. What gives?! Anybody encounter this and/or have a solution?
