Wii's DRM is way, way worse than Xbox's. On the Xbox you get rights to play your stuff on any console as long as you're signed into live AND anybody can play your stuff on the Xbox it was originally downloaded to (or where the DRM was last transferred). Of course, the only requirement is you actually buy the stuff when it's available.
On the Wii it's tied only to the console. If you want to buy a new black Wii in May, you're fucked. If your Wii dies, you're fucked. Nintendo is capable of helping you transfer your content, but the process has seemed very YMMV and/or pricey from what I've seen.

I was just thinking about this for some reason : The last year of the NFL 2K games (2K5, I think) the game had a feature where you could rip music samples off a CD and insert them into the game. I thought that was awesome - I had the opening of "Lose Yourself" blaring during the pregame warm-ups, the speakers blasted RHCP's "Give It Away" when the home team made an interception, etc. It made the game so much cooler. Has any game done that since?

No. And I loved that feature too. I used a few Soundgarden songs, for interceptions and stuff like that.

Okay...but if you create an account on your Wii and go to the website, it lists all of the games I've downloaded as far as VC goes. If my Wii died...wouldn't I be able to get those games back based on that account? If I can't, then what is the purpose of it? I'm a little confused since there is a record of what I've done.
The 360 DRM is great by comparison. I download all of my games to the console in the living room and everyone can play them on it. I then take my profile with me and I can play my games on any other Xbox as long as I'm on live. If I want a new Xbox I can move all my games to the new one by myself.
Nintendo's DRM is the worst kind of restrictive bullshit I have ever seen. God forbid I lose my DSi because I will also lose all my games I have downloaded. This is not a problem with the PSP or any other gaming system.

You would think that but you can't. I just went through all this on the phone with Nintendo when the DSiXL came out. They flat refused to move my games to a new handheld. The only exception they will make is if your Wii or DSi breaks and you send it to them for repairs. If it is out of warranty you have to pay for the refurb and they will then move the games over. The online record of your purchases is meaningless since it is also tied to one piece of hardware.

Re: downloads
is it normal for downloads to stop when certain games are booted up and played?
if i have pending downloads and play Borderlands, single player, not online or anything, they always stop. i don't think this has happened with other games, but not sure.

Some games do connect to the servers regardless, so yeah. that happens on some.

That's correct. You can easily circumvent the game auto-connecting to their servers by unplugging your network cable. Problem solved

Where can i find the network cable for my xbox? I'm in my living room, is it along the wall with the bookshelf or the couch?

You're going to need a wire hanger, some silly putty, and ass-less chaps and go in through the open disc tray unless you wanna void your warranty!

Now this is hardcore. These morons have left their consoles on for two weeks in Halo 2 so they can still play online.

No problem guys. I still have like 8 more as well. Yeah, it's a fairly crappy theme, but it might be worth the small price of "copy & paste" to some people, I guess. I'll post more if we need them.
