I feel having my phone # out there is a bigger deal than a hacked Live account.

I don't trust Google Voice. Look at all the failed Google products. Wave, Reader, etc. Just use a number you're going to remember.

Yes. Major Nelson sent out a tweet about it not too long ago.

New Xbox, apparently available today:
The redesigned Xbox 360 is available in the same value-packed editions for the same great prices as the existing console – $199.99 US estimated retail price (ERP) for the 4 GB console, $299.99 US ERP for the 250 GB edition and $299.99 US ERP for the 4 GB Kinect Bundle. Shipping today to retailers across the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia and Ireland, the new Xbox 360 will continue to roll out across all Xbox regions over the coming months. Go to www.xbox.com to order yours.

It's like consumer car designs. The first designs start out curvy and then they slowly lose definition and become a blandly rounded box.

It isn't on Amazon yet, I think it's only available on Microsoft Store for now.

Other than the design, is there any advantage to the redesigned 360 versus the current one?

Other than the fact you are more likely to turn off the system while trying to eject the tray, I don't see any other changes.

Re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
A weird thing happened this weekend to me and my 360 : I have two 360s, one old model with Kinect attached for my son to use in the family room and one newer model and no Kinect in my man-cave. As is often the case when I buy games for my son, I purchase them off the family room 360 so my son can play them unrestricted on the family Xbox while I can still play it while logged in on my Xbox when I feel like it. This weekend I bought Sega Bass Fishing for 160 points off the family Xbox, but for whatever reason, it won't unlock the full game on my system, only offering me an un-unlockable trial version of the game. I called the CS rep and spent a good hour with him : deleting, clearing cashe, re-downloading, deleting profiles, removing HDs, copying it from one console on memory stick to the other. Nothing worked. They have no idea how to fix this problem. Fortunately it's not a huge deal to me.(frankly I wanted to hang up after ten minutes but it seemed rude to cut him off while he still had ideas to try.
It got me thinking if they couldn't iron out the license issues in a 15 year old, 350 MB Dreamcast /XBLA title, who (besides discostu maybe) couldn't see this sort of potential problem occurring with full games on the One if they'd stuck to their guns about the DRM system?

Re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
The Xbox 360 E as they are calling it is missing:
- one USB port (4 vs 5; one less on the rear)
- the old A/V port
- the S/PDIF port (digital optical)
The last one may cause some issues for those who use headsets. I know Turtle Beach is making a special HDMI adapter to help with that issue.
The E model has 1 HDMI, 1 ethernet, 4 USB (2 front/2 rear), 1 Kinect port, 1 - 3.5 mm output jack.

Why would you get rid of digital optical out?

Plus, most people are plugging this thing directly into their HDTVs. Any TV made since about 2006 has had HDMI.
Actually, it's weird. There were very strong rumors that this iteration would be $100 less than the previous model. If that was true, I was going to pick one up to replace my Elite. That price drop may show up when the XO is launched, or early next year.
