I see you guys posting all around 'bout the upgrade I lost and I'm like FORGET YOU!
I guess my puny little gamerscore just wasn't enough and I'm like Forget You and Forget Microsoft too. If I kept my console ID on a cell phone picture, I'd be right with ya. Ain't that some shhhhh? It might make me seem a dick, but I hope your machines all brick -- with a Forget You. |

My disc arrived today as well.
Also, I checked three stores this afternoon and none of them had a 250 gig console without Kinect packed in. :( Probably going to have to order it online. |

I can only imagine how many extra copies of Halo Reach will be flooding Game Stop and ebay in the next few days. |

Yeah, I think it was actually a first-come first-served thing and I was late with the Console ID that night. You'd think that I'd have learned by now and kept a record of it on my cell phone, but no. It's not like I really needed another copy of Halo Reach, but I do hate feeling like I'm left out of all the "excitement". :(

Check Amazon Warehouse deals. They have 250GB holiday bundles, 250gb normal bundles, halo reach 250gb bundles, etc. All for pretty cheap. Or you could get a cheap 4gb through there and add on a cheap 250gb hard drive.

I wonder if not playing Reach enough will make you less likely to get picked for a beta in the future.
If I do get passed over in the future, I'll be sad but it's only for a few weeks or months and I'd be glad to not have to deal with the frequent updates like last time. |

Hopefully the deals aren't too good because I went ahead and bought one locally tonight. One of my brothers said he would be interested in buying a Kinect for 100$... and since he was basically funding the price difference in the bundle and standalone I just snagged it tonight. Working on getting it set up and hdd transfer running here in a few.

Continuing my drama - I got the new console hooked up. Transferred the hdd and recovered my gamertag. I then did the DRM transfer tool online, queued up 30 items to download, turned on background downloading, turned off the console and went to bed. I woke up this morning and turned it on to queue up 30 more things before heading to work and I get the message about how it shutdown due to overheating. WTF? The new console is placed in a totally different location and is basically in the open air. I'm wondering if since it was downloading keys rather than the entire file if it never shut down overnight and somehow had some issues. I am going to be super angry if the brand new slim sitting in open air starts having issues. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Did you remember to set it up to shutdown after 6 hours? A new console may not default to that setting. Also check the "low power" (?) setting where you can turn the console off while downloading.
Also if you are downloading keys only, 30 items will take about 2 minutes. Best thing to do is sit near the tv with a laptop so you can watch the queue while you add things from your laptop. |

While we were hanging out in the evening I was doing exactly what you said - adding things via the PC while it churned away snagging the keys. Then I added a bunch and shut it down before bed (thinking it would background snag the 30 in the list). This morning my wife turned it on for me and she didn't notice any red lights. The only reason I thought something was up is when I went down to log in it gave me the screen about the device shutting down when it gets too hot to prevent damage from overheating. That worried me because when my old Pro console would flash the red lights from overheating and then cool off enough to reboot it would give me the same message. |
re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
It's amazing that even after a console redesign, the 360 is still so prone to hardware problems. I gave up on my 250 GB hard drive after going through a replacement of both the console and the HDD. I'm now running off of two 16 GB USB sticks rather than continue to deal with MS's incompetency and the annoying hardware replacement process.

It's probably melted off by now.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
You suck. There was no film.
edit: Also, as a side note, MSoft is replacing the console that was overheating during the beta. I already bought a slim of course but it is very cool they will replace my old Pro. |
